The UK unlike the USA has two education systems operating in parallel. An academic system of GCSE - 'A' Level - University and a vocational system GCSE - Vocational GCSE - Higher National.

There is nothing remotely like the Higher National in the USA. This program provides vocational and practical training programs in every skill imaginable.

The Scottish Qualification Authority assesses over 5000 different course modules.

The Higher National program is roughly equivalent to a US 'Associate Degree'. The lower first year level is call 'Higher National Certificate' and the upper level 'Higher National Diploma'
