The Forgotten Grief: For Professionals

A well trained and knowledgeable health care professional combined with sensitivity, can greatly aid in healing in the early days of bereavement. If there is ever a more problematic time for the health care professional, it is when an unexpected and tragic death occurs: no amount of training lets us out of the limits of our humanity. A included are some online help and training for the healthcare profession, for both in-hospital care and follow-up. These may be adapted for either personal study or used in the venue of Medical School or Staff training. While this short course is not to be considered comprehensive, it should provide basic information, issues, and applications which may aid in the comfort and care of bereaved parents within the hospital milieu and in followup. Each unit consists of an information section, assessment questions, and summarized information and resources. Whle no course can "train" a person to be sensitive and caring, hopefully this sequence will allow some boundaries which will at least aid in doing no harm, and even better in aiding the physician
