Great Mysteries in PR Histories- September 2002

This month's greatest mystery is...
THE ZEO CRYSTAL!

Now HERE'S a mystery to ponder over...the fate of the Zeo Crystal.

Now at the time, this was the "most powerful artifact in the universe." If so, then it would provide the most powerful Megazord ever. BUT, as Zordon said in the Turbo movie, the Turbo Megazord was now the most powerful Megazord ever created. This throws out all thoughts that the Zeo Crystal is "the" most powerful thing ever. Also, Zordon made both qoutes.

Here's what we know. White Ranger got this sucka', which wa hidden by monks from the M-51 Galaxy, from underneath Zedd's castle and it would eventually be used as the power source of the Zeo Power Rangers. (for all you new Ranger fans who watch ABC Family, Power Rangers Zeo was an ACTUAL show, not that ABCF would let you see an episode of it...)But we have no hardcore facts after that. PRZ had it's final episode with the Rangers and Zedd+Company wiping out the Machine Empire...and that's it. Nothing more is spoken about the Zeo Powers after Jason gave his back to Trey. In the Turbo movie, we see Catherine Hillard morph into Zeo Ranger 1- which would be the last we ever heard or saw of the Zeo powers...up until this Red Ranger Reunion on October 5th (airing date may change). In this reunion, we see Tommy Oliver will return as Zeo Ranger 5...which is bound to raise some questions. Like these:

Whatever happened to the Zeo powers anyway? Why does Tommy choose his Zeo Powers instead of his Turbo powers? Are the Zeo and Turbo powers linked?...These among more questions will be attempted to be answered on this very page. Here's my theory.

Let's take a look who's on our team here. We've got Tommy Oliver, Billy Cranston, Catherine Hillard, Adam Park, Tanya Sloan, Rocky DeSantos, Jason Scott Lee, Trey, Zordon, Alpha 5. My general theory is that the Zeo powers were upgraded by the Rangers into Turbo powers.

Now I know that a lot of y'all may disagree right offhand, but looking at it logically, as Kai Chen of GSA would do, it fits in. But Windgrail, if the Zeo and Turbo powers are one in the same, then how come both the Red Turbo Ranger and Zeo Ranger 5 appear in Forever Red? Have patience, will you?!! Ahem, there is a very simple explanation to this. Taking in all that we know of these guys' abilities, I'd say that Billy was able to clone the Zeo Crystal. Yes, that's right Rangermaniacs, cloning.

But Windgrail, Billy was smart, but not that smart! Ok, ok, lemme explain myself then.

Why couldn't we say that Billy was properly instructed by Zordon and Alpha 5 on how to clone such an artifact? Well...because we can. But Windgrail, why didn't he tell the other Rangers and why wasn't it told on the show. My, you're a curious crowd.

Let's say that Billy keeps this cloned copy a secret so that it keeps the other Rangers focused on keeping the originals. But it was the original Zeo powers that the Rangers would alter in the Turbo movie. This gives perfect leeway for Tommy to return with his Zeo powers. But Windgrail, why does Tommy let TJ have his Turbo powers back?

Well Tommy passed his Turbo powers to TJ in "Passing the Torch part 2," and then the Turbo powers were later defeated by Divatox, forcing TJ to eventaully morph into the Blue Space Ranger, courtesy of Red Space Ranger Andros. Now as revealed in "The Power of Pink," the Space Rangers have their own mission on Earth. Perhaps it is during this mission that the Astro Morphers are damaged or destroyed, except for Andros'. This would force TJ to use his somewhat regenerated Turbo powers to become the Red Turbo Ranger again. But Windgrail, how did the powers regenerate? Simple. Adam's original Power Coin had half-regenerated over the course of four years in "Always a Chance," so why not say that TJ's Turbo Morpher and Key had regenerated over the past five years? (yes kiddies, it's REALLY been that long!) Tommy sees that this is the only way for TJ to fight, so he lets him have the Turbo powers. Besides, it was Tommy who GAVE his Turbo powers to TJ anyway, so Tommy would just use the copied Zeo powers, which he would now know about.

So what impact did the Zeo Crystal have on the show in general? Well, nothing but positive, imo. Guys, it was nice having MMPR while it lasted, but face it, MMPR season 3 needed the Ninja theme just to stay alive. This marked the beginning of chain-changes. The ninja season let us know that PR can alter their ways without really changing. Then Zeo came. The subplots with the Zeo Crystal, with the kid Rangers on their Zeo Quest and thereafter, were the transition to the change that PR needed. Vince McMahon of the WWE likes to shake things up when Raw or Smackdown! tend to get weak, and that's exactly what PR needed at the time- a nice shakin'. Not one where everything would go back to normal, (like with the MMAR), but one where everything changes. The Zeo Crystal made this possible. PRZ itself would begin the tradition that keeps PR one of the dominating forces in television today. Hats off to the Zeo Crystal.

OH, BUT WHAT'S THIS? ANOTHER MYSTERY FOR SEPTEMBER?!!!!
