Mastering the skills of the Earth class at an early age, Kiya Watanabe had the makings for the next academy legend, bested only by his twin brother, true and just Kanoi. Though his skills came with a heavy price. Ignored as a child, Kiya struck a deal with Unagi Garenth to become embedded with the knowledge of a master warrior ninja so that he could prove his worth to his comrades. However, with this knowledge came the powers of an ancient evil known as Lothor.
The dark energies growing strong in him over the years, Kiya's mind slipped more and more into unconsciousness, until, finally, Lothor himself replaced it. The presence of this power got him banished from the academy grounds forever in 2992, and Kiya swore his revenge on all the academies. Keeping good on his promise, Lothor returned in 3017 to claim everything within his reach. Though the academies were destroyed, the Ranger powers within them were utilized under the command of his nephew, Cameron, against Lothor's developed ninja army.
Tactics being his favorite weapon, Lothor turned Blake and Hunter against Cameron and his Rangers, but failed once the Bradleys discovered that it was Lothor who killed their adopted parents. And after Cameron himself became a Ranger, Lothor's ultimate plan accelerated by having his deceptive generals destroy one another so that their energies filled the Abyss of Evil to capacity. In the final battle with the Rangers, Lothor was killed inside his Zord, but was ressurected by the Abyss. However, the Winds were able to seal him in the fiery tomb after he had stolen all of the Winds', Thunders' and Samurai Ranger's powers.
Shortly afterwards, Unagi Garenth granted Lothor freedom and a place in the Monarch Dominion at a time when all the Monarchs of the universe were uniting their forces.
