His parents killed as a child by Kiya's armies, Hunter and younger brother, Blake, grew up in the teachings of the Thunder Ninja Academy under the instruction of Sensei Amino. The rougher and more straight-forward of the two, he knew that he was being groomed for something that he didn't understand, not until the Academy was attacked and destroyed in 3017 by Lothor's forces. In that attack, Hunter stood by helpless as Sensei Amino and the majority of students were captured. It was then that he dedicated his life to avenge his parents and Sensei by utilizing the ancient powers of the Crimson Thunder Morpher. Once done, his destiny was to wage war as the Crimson Thunder Ranger.
Hunter's training encouraged control over emotions and channeling them into obliterating the enemy. Though he witnessed General Zurgane capture Sensei Amino, Hunter was brainwashed by Lothor into thinking the Wind Rangers and their Sensei were the killers. Whenever truth began to emerge of the Wind Rangers' innocence, Hunter would simply turn mad until the sensation wore off, prompting some of his most deadly assualts. The Lost Ninjas were the first to defeat Hunter in morphed combat. Always a man of his word, Hunter promised to help the Winds defeat the overwhelming Lost Ninjas, which he kept true to.

When Blake defected to the Winds, Hunter's sanity was that much closer to the edge and his hatred the Winds then spawned to his brother. But it was the powerful bond between he and Blake which finally rid the Thunders of the spell, resulting in a permenant alliance with the Winds against Lothor and his generals.

Over the succeeding months, Hunter integrated into Blue Bay Harbor's society as a stockboy for Storm Chargers, keeping up with his motocross hobbies, and bettering his ninja skills at the Wind Rangers' base. In the end, he and Blake freed the students and their Sensei from Lothor's collapsing ship.
