RagMag Digest, a new quarterly anthology of contemporary fiction to be published by Five Bucks Press, is seeking manuscripts for its October 2004 debut issue. (Do not think you are going insane... We originally did plan for a July 2004 debut...) Manuscripts should meet the following general guidelines.
1) Submit original fiction only, 2000 – 8000 words long. Manuscripts must be titled and author’s chosen byline should be given below title. Follow any standard manuscript format. Include legal name, address, phone number, e-mail address and approximate word count at top of title page.
2) Submissions realistically involving humor, mystery, suspense, great characterization and viewpoints concerning contemporary issues are given first consideration. We use 8 – 20 mss per issue, paying in copies for First N.A. Serial Rights. Copyright reverts to author on publication. Whenever sales exceed cost of publication, contributing writers share equally in the proceeds of that issue. We do not accept simultaneous submissions or previously published works.
3) Poetry submissions should be limited to a maximum of 4 poems per envelope or e-mail. Poems should not exceed 60 lines. We favor rhyming poetry but other styles may be submitted. Poems should somehow carry the "mostly mysterious, chilling, thrilling and suspenseful flavor" we are aiming for in our publication.
4) If you submit your manuscript via snail-mail, include a #10 self-addressed stamped envelope (SASE) for our response. Mss may otherwise be e-mailed toFive Bucks Press . Replies are given in 2 – 8 weeks. NO replies to postal submissions unless a #10 SASE accompanies submission. This SASE is for the purpose of notifying you of the happy acceptance or sad rejection of your work and for sending you our publication agreement should your ms be accepted. It is not for the return of your manuscript. Snail-mailed manuscripts are returned ONLY if accompanied by a sufficiently posted and sized SASE.
5) Include a brief BIO with your first submission to Five Bucks Press. If you would not object to having your picture published, include a photo identifying yourself if more than one person is in pic. (Kept on file if first ms submission is not accepted.)
