Partitions are for people who have either too many fishes or not enough space! ;o)

Out with the old, in with the new
collected Saturday, December 27th 2003

My previous rack has led a meaningful life, dutifully fulfilling it's role as bookshelf, display shelf, LP vinyl shelf and lastly, as a killie rack.

Here, I'm slowly clearing up the tanks off the shelves and my back is already aching!

Finally... the new setup is in position.

At the left of the pic, the white piping behind the old rack was intended to be a central drainage outlet for a flow-through system.

Since installing a permanent water source was problematic (not to mention incurring the wrath of the local council...)

Tank-worthiness... will it hold up?

This set is "pre-owned" and was previously used as discus raising tanks.
Got it off the ads cheaply and here's how it was at the seller's fishroom.

Lest there was some damage during transit and spring a leak.... I decided to fill up all the tanks and let sit overnight.  Meanwhile, I get ready to be re-acquainted with the mop!

The Hi-blow air pump and electrical box is in place, on a glass slab at the top tank.

I made a mess out of the place... and I'm poofed!!

Heartfelt thanks to my friend and fellow Killie.Com forumer, Jian Yang alias StormHawk, who helped me till almost 5 in the morning.

3 big tanks is not enough!
 January 3rd 2004

and thanks to the dead "Flower Horn or Lou Han" craze, partitions and accessories were aplenty and affordable, but since these tanks were custom-made, the acrylic partitions are not applicable.

The white plastic/nylon thingie is the partition clip holder.
Short side to tank, long side to partition.

I wanted to reduce the gap between partition and tank's front/rear panel and opted for a removable solution.

Splice an air tubing, open the split and 'warp' it along partition's edge.

x

Medium grit filter pad. Cut into 2inch strips to fit width of tank at the bottom.

Adult fishes won't get pass this but since some of the compartments will be used for raising older fry, this pad will be compressed when the 5mm-thick glass covers rest on it.

This pad allows water to easily pass through and also act as a media for colonies of nitrifying bacteria.

Completed the partitioning work.

Just behind the tank, near the top, is the air supply manifold with single valve threaded in.

Each set of partition uses;
2ea - Nylon clips (max 4mm panels).
1 glass panel, custom cut to fit.
1 2-inch strip of coarse filter padding.
Short lengths of air tubing.

Completed tank setup.   Whew!!... finally!

4 pieces of custom cut 5mm thick glass panels are used for each tank.

I chose glass because it's heavy, easy to maintain and can support trays... when I ran out of wet space... and I did!!

I'll welcome further suggestions in any area that needs improvement.
