bernadetteg joined Epinions on Dec. 13, 2001.

NEW Epinions writer bernadetteg, whose review can be read only by readers logged on to Epinions, slams the pomposity of Michael Jackson's Greatest Hits: HIStory, Vol. 1. "Let me just say this: The last time Michael Jackson released an album of completely original material, the world was thankfully treated to Kurt Cobain, et. al. It was then that the world should have realized that the self-proclaimed 'King of Pop' -- who, at one time, could back up his bombast -- had lost his relevance."

VETERAN Epinions writer eplovejoy admires that bridgetteg brings passion to her writing, but wishes the review lived up to its title: "Come Back, Kurt Cobain, the World Needs You!" eplovejoy suggests, "It would be great if you had some fun with this. Drawing out the comparisons between Jackson and Cobain would be a great place to start."

daydrmgirl joined Epinions on May 4, 2001.

NEW Epinions writer daydrmgirl, whose review can be read only by readers logged on to Epinions, praises Wesleyan University, where she is a freshman: "Overall, I'm totally enjoying myself here. But don't judge Wesleyan based on other peoples opinion! Why should you believe me? Just come for a visit, and maybe you'll like it here as much as I do."

VETERAN Epinions writer lightnin, who offered some suggestions for improving the review, is impressed with the potential in daydrmgirl's writing: "I'm looking at this from a potential student's point of view (and I'm not a potential student). While I think this might have fit better in the 'housing' sub-category, I love the enthusiasm and excitement about your first year at college that shines through."

erinrounds joined Epinions on Oct. 20, 2001.

NEW Epinions writer erinrounds enthusiastically recommends the Sharp 36L-S400 big-screen television: "I honestly can't think of anything else this television needs or could do better, but I do think the sheer SIZE of this model need stressing. It is a big televison in every sense of the word. It weighs well over 100 pounds and does not fit in a standard size entertainment center."

VETERAN Epinions writer Suzer applauds erinrounds's review, including the title: "I loved your eye-catching title "Who Says Size Doesn't Matter" and your very detailed information about the Sharp 36L-S400 TV. It should be extremely beneficial to anyone considering making a tv purchase."

etavonni joined Epinions on Nov. 21, 2000.

NEW Epinions writer etavonni, has written two reviews since joining Epinions. In the second, he recommends AllDirect.com as a bare-bones alternative to Amazon.com: "There are no reviews, links to other titles or authors or other titles by the same actor as you find at Amazon. Like I said, bare-bones. If you know the title, you can find it and order it. My solution is to use Amazon to research, then order at AllDirect if they beat Amazon's price."

VETERAN Epinions writer theeye commends etavonni for doing a "marvelous job" of providing solid information: "I was particularly impressed with the specific detail you provided: price comparisons and a very specific example to back up your criticism of the search engine. This sort of hard data and analysis gives your readers a sense of confidence in your opinion that more qualitative comments can't provide."

lmkramer joined Epinions on Oct. 17, 2001.

NEW Epinions writer lmkramer recommends the Maws USA Comfi Catch-All Bib: "The plastic bib snaps around baby's neck, and food that misses its mark is caught in the curved bottom 'catch-all' of the bib. The bib is easily washed by hand and is also top-rack dishwasher safe. It works well to snap it onto the back of our high chair for use at the next meal."

VETERAN Epinions writer MaryTara, who is a top reviewer and editor in Epinions' Kids & Family section, thanks lmkramer for sharing important advice: "Your reviews are to the point and include specific pros and cons which are VERY HELPFUL to consumers.

"As a SAHM, I'm enjoying reading your reviews, and look forward to sharing advice in the future."

rightbrain joined Epinions on Nov. 3, 2001.

NEW Epinions writer rightbrain assures us that Golden Throats: The Great Celebrity Sing-Off!, which features purported singing by such luminaries as William Shatner and Mae West, is "a hoot, plain and simple." Of a song performed by Shatner's logical co-star, rightbrain says, "Leonard Nimoy's (Dr. Spock, Star Trek) Proud Mary sounds very much like he has an active colon and he needs to finish this song quickly and without too much effort from his diaphragm. And he displays as much emotion as his Vulcan character. Makes you ask, 'Why? Why?' "

VETERAN Epinions writer jkkelley notes that some of rightbrain's reviews "are saddled with bullying ratings they don't deserve." He writes this about her review of Golden Throats, which he said is "the one I liked the best":
" Now this is the kind of music reviews I like to read. Plenty of honest, witty impressions; not too much technical crap that is always beyond my comprehension. (Ever noticed that some music reviewers are almost like wine snobs? 'Pours to a rich pale pink... a nose reminiscent of auto garages... very papery palate, with a strong Fresca finish.') By all means please give us more, Valerie."

* Commentsment, the name for which was suggested by Sloucho, could turn into a series of similar events. If so, the next one would be in the spring, around April 13, 2002.

The main page for the first Commentsment is here. Please contact: pww5@columbia.edu if you would like to be notified about possible upcoming Epinions Community Commentsments. Participants in Commentsment2 will be notified automatically if there is a third, although participation in this one does not, of course, presume participation in subsequent ones.
