Dreaming of Spring by Cathy Dellinger

The dog cannot count

The cats count the birds

I wander off to sleep

Dreaming of Spring.

The dog checks off days

The cats lick their fur knowingly

I cry out for warmth

One more day is done.

The dog hunkers down

The cats nest in feathers

I sleep tossing amid the night

Of full sap moons.

The dog snores as I turn

Watching morning light appear

Quiet under this blanket of snow

Paw-less, print-less, mind-less.
