Floopys, Scarves, and More!

Welcome to the Home of the Floopy Hat!!!

This is a nifty little squashable, totally abuseable hat that I've designed. It's done in thick yarn for ultimate softness, and loosely crocheted so that you don't start to sweat while you're out in the cold. It keeps your head warm though!

And the bonus? It doesn't mess up your hair!!!! (unless you have that awful 'mall hair' from the 80's)

I make each hat any which-a-way I want, letting the yarn and my hands tell me what it wants to look like. I only have a set pattern for the top of them, just for uniformity.

I have made over 50 of these guys just in the last month, and sell about 20/weekend this time of year. At $15 each, they're affordable enough to walk off my table, and expensive enough so that I'm not underpricing myself.

These are relatively quick and easy, since I've done so many of them, and also make wonderful hats for chemo patients, since I only use the softest of acrylic and chenille yarns, and they're not the least bit binding.

They look great on almost anyone I've seen them on (except Andrea, but she doesn't like hats anyhow, so that's okay. --grin--)

This year I'm also doing matching 'Keyhole' scarves for the Floopys. These scarves are made of the same yarn. They go around your neck, but instead of tying or flopping back over your shoulder, they're made with a notch in one end, and a hole in the other.

You simply insert the notched end into the hole until the notch is centered in the opening. Straighten the ends so that they lay right, and viola! You have a nice, warm, trendy scarf that looks great with today's sleeker winter coat fashions.

I'm making scarves of all lengths and yarns. Any color combination is fair game, and most of them have pockets on the ends!

Pocket Scarves are very popular this year at my craft shows. I've had special orders for them as well, so have started making more. Pocket Scarves are usually very long, enough to go around your neck twice, and the ends are folded up and crocheted into place, forming a nice cozy pocket. That's wonderful for when you want to just step outside to admire your snowy landscape! No need for gloves or mittens! (Though I can make mittens to match any of the above!)

Baby Floopys

This year I've also been asked to make several Baby Floopys. These I've made in a generic 'toddler' size. Since Floopys stretch, they can fit a wide range of heads. Again, they're not binding, so they won't irritate your youngster. (That's always a good thing! Hats tend to stay on little heads better if the thing feels good!)

And of course, I wouldn't be me if I didn't make matching scarves, mittens, and keyhole scarves for the Baby Floopys, as well!

This is the set I made for mom, and she got it just in time for the Ice Storm of 2002 here in the Carolina's. The white flecks you see on her hat are actually wood chips. A tree fell on my father's work van, and she and I took our digital cameras out to take pictures of him removing said tree from said van.

I was very lucky not only to find styrofoam heads to model my hats on, but also a few wigs to add to the effect.

Here are a few of my creations, Floopys and Keyholes and Scarves, oh my! :)

This is another creation/adaptation that I like. I call it a warm hug, because it's warmth all in one squishable package...

This is a long scarf with a hood AND pockets! So you don't have to worry about losing any one item, just keep up with this ONE.

I can make these in any color yarn, but if you want chenille, it's extra, of course.
