Brag Book

Welcome to my brag book! Here is where I'll put pics of things I've made or come up with, to share with all and sundry.

Spike!

Don't ever think that just because you don't have a pattern for something, you can't make it.

At Coronation the weekend of April 5-7, 2002, Her Majesty Queen Isabel of Atlantia asked those who attended the event to show their support by wearing favors with the Atlantian seahorse on them. The seahorse is lovingly called Spike, and he has a horn on his head. I guess he's a sea unicorn. (I'm sure there's a perfectly heraldic name for one of those, but I haven't had enough coffee this morning to remember it!)

This just shows what you can do, once you know the basics of crochet. He took me about 20 minutes to whip up sitting in the hotel room the night before Coronation.

Spike is made from blue 100% wool that I bought at the recent Gulf Wars XI. He is appliqued onto a scrap of white 100% cotton (same material I used to make the undertunic I wore at Coronation)and then I blanket-stitched around the outside of the favor to give it a finished look.

To hang it from my belt, I attached a length of inkle-woven trim in Atlantian colors, leaving the unwoven ends to dangle as decoration.

Cuddle up!

This is such a comfy, squishy, wonderfully warm and cuddly shawl! It's made from Lion Brand Homespun. I used a large hook and about 4 skeins of yarn for this shawl. It took most of a weekend, but it was fun and I was able to catch up on my movie-watching. :)

Baby time!

These blankets were fun, fast, and they make GREAT baby floor blankets. They're so thick and soft that I would hesitate to use them to actually wrap a baby up in, though I live in North Carolina, where we had 7 cold days last year. I think in the northern states, you'd probably WANT a thick, cuddly blanket!

I made three different blankets for a craft show last fall, and these are just like those. I charged $35 each for them, and they seemed to do very well! I"m looking forward to doing that show again this year.
