The caterpillars of the Plain Tiger
feed voraciously on the Calotropis gigantea leaves and leaf buds
and grow quickly. This particular caterpillar attained a length of
about 2.5cm (about one inch) after several days. The caterpillars bear striking
colours, and it is believed that this is a form of warning coloration (signalling
to predators that they are toxic).
