Me.......
Not just a Jackie Chan film, the question Who am I? Seems to be one that would take a long time to answer. Who we are is defined by everything that happens in our life. So to gain a complete understanding of who I am would take a good 22 years, and some bizarre and improbable Disney style film antics.
Having said that I will attempt to give a brief idea of who I am and what I do with my time. Which is not a lot....
Okay so my name, seems as good a place to start as any, is Alastair McGowan M.A. (I earned them so I use them!). The shorthand version usually reads as, Al. It seems a lot easier to digest as a name. Although I am not quite as fond of it. However my family or work mates, when I have a job, tend to call me the former. And friends go for the latter.
I am 22 years old, creeping up on 23. Not until October 28th, that being my birthday and all. I may even find a picture to put up here at some point. But don't hold me to that.
I am an alumni of the University of Glasgow, any excuse to use such a great word has to be taken! I have an M.A. in Historical Studies. This means I am too smart for most jobs, and have no relevant skills for any other! I feel that my time at university was well spent, I learned many useful things.
Such as how much work it is possible for one man to get done in a single night, if he really has to. And how much work he can avoid, if he can get away with it. Other useful skills I learned include, how to drink like a fool and regret it in the morning. On top of these wonderful skills I also learned a number of things about myself.
I never thought it to be true, but I was never happier at university than when I was working my ass off to get assignments in. I relish the challenge that a very nearly late paper presents. It can make up for quite how boring a paper is! I work well under pressure, I have the ability to lead a team and get results. I know what I can do, and more importantly I know what I can't do.
So I know when to run for help when it's needed. A take great pride in having the ability to know when I have bitten off more than I can chew. I also learn from my mistakes, I go out of my way to do so. Learn that is, not make the mistakes!
So enough about that, what else is there to know about me? Well, that I can feasibly put down without cramping my fingers.
I am a bit of a romantic, I hide it very well. Usually under a sarcastic and bitter front. I call that my sense of humour. But deep underneath, about 20,000 leagues....
There lies a person who places his home where his friends are. A guy who likes to live a free and happy life, don't we all? No, not really, many people seem to relish the drudgery of modern life. I call them GOTHS!
However as I currently have no job, I am lacking in one area of life. The job satisfaction front. I do enjoy working, as long as I get a sense of having accomplished at the end of the day. Which I have rarely encountered in a working environment. Much to the distaste of my bank account.
I enjoy a wide variety of things in my free time, mostly because I have so much of it. These include supporting the Scottish Claymores! I am a huge fan, it is great to watch a game live. A great deal of that goes to the cheerleaders who add so much to the sport.
Other hobbies of mine include movies. A lot of movies. I have a large collection, and quite a good one at that. I also enjoy role playing, as you can tell from the rest of site. I do try not to let the geek in me run amok.
I have also recently learned html, so I could throw up this web page. I did not bad! I also enjoy modesty, no, sorry that was a lie.
Damn my speakers keep going, this is very upsetting. Sod and bugger. I also like to swear. It helps relieve tension. However I tend to moderate my use of offensive language when I type. I don't know why I do that! Very strange. Never mind, where was I?
Oh well, I don't want to make this too long. So I will leave it at that, you can prob get to know me by reading my diary.
eihort@gugs.org.uk is where you can e-mail me. If you wish to do so, well, go for it. If I don't like what you write I can always delete it!
Having just realised that I never put down where I live.... I live in Glasgow, Scotland. I have a little flat all of my ownsome. Sharing with my brother and a little seen flat mate Chris. All told it's a great little home, I have lived there for just over 2 years. And lived in Glasow for over 11. If you know Glasgow at all I live just past the west end. There we go, done now. Until I think of something else I forgot to put up....
