Exploring The Catcher in the Rye   :   album

From the Art Museum to the Zoo

Holden walks up Fifth Avenue, past some bell ringers, and sits on a bench on Fifth (p. 196-8). He gets a note to Phoebe and goes to the Art museum to meet her. The third photo is taken from the steps on the Art Museum, looking south, where Phoebe finally appears (p. 202, 205-7). Holden had been waiting just inside a doorway, looking for her, then goes down the steps to meet her. The rest of the photos head down Fifth Avenue, still on the park side of the street, with the other side of the street in view as Holden keeps his eye on Phoebe there (p. 208-9). The second "+text" image, heading down Fifth Avenue, expands about the significance of where Holden's family lives.
