Mama

To My Son
Margaret Roane

That your eyes may see beauty;
That your ears may hear sounds
That echo in light and love;
That your feet may walk softly
And with sensitivity;
That your hands may create
Something lovely;
And that your heart may reach out.
And take unto itself earth's loveliness
And know from whence it comes-
That is my wish for you.
There can be no other.

A Mother's Gifts
Mina Lone

I cannot give them gold,
These treasures given me by God above;
I cannot give them any gifts to hold
But that He gives to all-
The gift of love.

Food I can give to make their bodies strong,
Strength for this day and for the distant year;
A home for which when faraway they'll long,
A place of rest and freedom from all fear.

Faith too I can bestow
In God, in self and in their fellowman;
And peace that comes from Him,that One Divine.
These gifts with love bestowed,
What more is there to give?
A mother asks and answers
With a life well-lived.
