I had never been fond of America or Americans. I'd always thought that life elsewhere would be better, cleaner, grander. But during the past week I was reminded by the splendor of nature that America really is a remarkable country. I'm still not sure about the people, but the land is truely awesome.
I've spent the past couple weeks in California. Five days in Anaheim, one in Monterey, three in San Fransisco, one in Yosemite, one in the Mojave Desert, and one in Los Angeles. Anaheim was a bore; Monterey was interesting, but only because I went to the National Steinbeck Center; and San Fransisco is an absolutely wonderful city(wish I could've spent more time there). But, by far, the part of the trip that made me really want to travel the U.S. (and not just Europe, as I'd thought before) was the nature. Who knew one state could have so much diversity in it. Mountains, beaches, deserts-- all in one place. I wish I could describe some of the things I saw, but my descriptions just wouldn't do them justice. So as soon as I can get some pictures developed and scanned, maybe I'll put a few up on here. Still, those don't even begin to come close to the real images.
Well, time for bed. More on this later . . .
