It has been 17 years since the birth of Max McCloud. Ever since his birth there hasn't been any wars or battles that threatened the Planet Earth. Rick called this time period "The 17 Years of Peace", a peaceful and prosperous time. But things were starting to go downhill from there, Portalia was dying. Her life term was running out and she needed someone to take her place as Guardian before she dies. And she knew only one being was worthy enough to take her position and that being was willing enough to take it. Not only was the KDP changing, NLS was changing too. The remaining heros retired from NLS, especially one person named Vegeta. It seems that the last of the Saiyans decided to wish back the Planet Vegetasi with the Namekian Dragon Balls. They wanted Vegeta to be the king of the new planet and fulfill his destiny. All of the Saiyans left for the new planet except for one, Nappa, he was still a Mage Knight for the KDP and still had an alligiance to NLS and the KDP. So the two split up but their friendship would still hold. Rick and Blitzy would resign from their position as commandants of NLS, they knew the only two beings would be right for the job. The new leaders were Jake the Commanding Officer and Mike the Executive officer. Under the two new commandants, they organized the general service into 6 sub-services. The new 6 sub-services were known as: NLS Army (NLSA), NLS Earth Navy (NLSEN), NLS Space Navy (NLSSN), NLS Marine Corps. (NLSMC), NLS Air Force (NLSAF),NLS United Mecha (NLSUM). This put NLS into better organization in knowing who and what to use in a time for battle. Jake and Mike reformed a lot of things in NLS to make it better. Now that they are more prepared, NLS will be a stronger force in the year 2217.
