Introducing the activities of Berkhamsted's Youth Council, presently meeting at 'The Swan' Youth Centre in the High Street, not quite opposite St. Peter's church. See 'Youth Activities', our page on the Town Council web site. This page and the pages below provide details of our activities, as we choose to make available. A slideshow, produced by Mischke and Daniel members gives a further insight into the youth council.
[NB: The PowerPoint presentation is a sequence of slides which should start when opened. The speed of pictures can be advanced by using the 'Page Down' button. However, for those NOT on broadband, saving and then viewing is recommended.]

Berkhamsted Youth Council
updated 5th November 2004

General Introduction
Members of Berkhamsted Youth Council are elected representatives from schools in the town and other groups where Berkhamsted's Young people are active.

Berkhamsted Youth Council has previously campaigned for a skateboard park in Berkhamsted. A presentation to Dacorum Borough Council was greeted with appreciation for the high standards adopted in the way they presented their case. The 'debate' regarding planning regulations continues!

Berkhamsted Youth Council has campaigned on behalf of the Swan initiative and is an active supporter of Gatecrashers a non-alcoholic retreat for young people. It has also campaigned on behalf of the Rex Trust to preserve this excellent art deco cinema (one of only two in the country) and their endeavours to have a fully functioning Arts centre there.

Council members have been engaged in organising a major litter pick and town clean up and have been active supporters of the National Association of Youth Councils Annual meetings. Several members were actively involved in organising the national event when Hertfordshire County Council were the hosts. We have sent representatives to conferences at York and Durham and most recently our chairman (Mischke) chaired a Dacorum-wide initiative in the Council Chamber at Hemel Hempstead, in support of Local Democracy week.

Berkhamsted Youth Council is supportive of all aspects of involving young people in the decision-making process and maintains connections at county and national level. Several members were involved in last year's selection of local representatives for the national youth parliament.

The Council welcomes comment and interaction with other youth councils and individual young people who would like to learn more about the youth council or the activities for young people in the town.
