Welcome!

This page is dedicated to my small collection of life-like baby dolls. I currently have five dolls. The first doll I purchased was "Lindsay". I happened across her auction on e-Bay by accident in October of 2000 while I was searching through dolls auctions in an attempt to try and help my Mom identify and value an old doll she had from her childhood. When I first saw Lindsay I immediately knew I had to have her. I didn't previously collect life-like baby dolls, though I had always wanted one as a child. When I was a little girl, I used to enjoy dressing up my Mom's and my Aunt's old Ideal dolls in mine and my siblings old baby clothing. After I won Lindsays's auction I searched around e-Bay and the internet to try and indentify her and find out as much information about her as I could. While searching, I happened upon another e-Bay auction for brand new dolls which looked similar to Lindsay in April of 2001. I bought one of those dolls and named it "Ethan". Further searching led me to some e-Bay auctions for JC Toys new "Berenguer Babies" and I immediately fell in love with them as well. Those dolls were new at the time and the "re-borning" craze had not started yet with those particular dolls. I really love the talent and craftmanship that went into creating the dolls which are in my collection. I believe all the dolls were designed by the wonderful Berenguer family of Spain. Because I appreciate the dolls, I have not cut into the vinyl or painted them in the typical "re-borning" technique that many doll collectors have done with these type of dolls. I didn't want to do anything that would permanently change or damage the dolls so I have done little with them in the way of "re-borning" them. Evan and Aiden do have some small Kemper doll wigs which I have bought for them and I used a minimal amount of Alene's craft glue just to hold the wig in place on their heads but the wigs are easily removed and there is no damage to the doll's painted-on hair styles which are hidden by the doll wig.

Baby clothing has changed much since I and my siblings were babies. I notice now that baby's clothing seems to be designed more for style than comfort and resembles mini version of adult or older children's clothing. The clothing is adorable on the dolls, though I do not know how comfortable it would be on a real baby. I bought many cute layettes and such (all second hand through e-Bay) by brand names like Baby Gap and Gymboree. Most of my dolls outfits are Gymboree brand, though I do have a few cute outfits from brands like Baby Gap, Rose Cottage and The Children's Place. I love accessories!! I am such an accessory junkie :o) For me the cute accessories really "make" the outfit and so I diligently searched to complete many of the cute Gymboree layette I bought for my dolls by finding the matching socks, hats, headbands, jackets, blankets, toys, etc. whenever I could. I put notes on all my doll's photos which brand and line an outfit was from in case another doll collector liked the outfit it would make it easier for them to find the same one for their dolls.

Digital photography is another small hobby of mine. One of these days I hope to purchase a photography book so I can learn how to really take good photos. For now I just do my best with no photography training at all really. I am just a point and shoot photographer and don't really understand how to take advantage of many of the camera's complicated settings and what-not. It is a constant challenge for me to "capture" what I see in real life on my camera. The lighting or angle never seems to show up on the final print the way I saw it when I took the photo. The lighting is the trickiest part for me as it seems digital cameras never capture the lighting the way it actually is during the time the photo is taken and it causes me to always have to use Adobe PhotoDeluxe program to try and correct the color and tint on my photos. I do enjoy taking photos though. For anyone who may be wondering, I usually take my dolls pictures against a plain background so as not to distract from their cute outfits with background clutter. In my older photos, my dolls were usually in basic poses since the Mi-Bebe dolls are not really "poseable" and thus were stuck in limited poses and without internal armature or any weight from poly pellets or such (as the doll reborners usually add) the Berenguer dolls do not really hold poses as well either. Also, I had originally started photographing my dolls in their outfits just so I would remember which outfits I had already bought and which accessories I already had when I was shopping on e-Bay so I would not inadvertantly buy any "doubles" of an item, therefore I usually chose a pose and angle which would show the most detail for the outfit that the doll was wearing. As time passes I found I really enjoyed looking at the photos of my dolls and so I started taking some just for "cuteness" and trying to get creative with the posing and adding cute props. I even took some cute holiday theme photos.

I don't "play" with the dolls. They just sit on the dresser in my bedroom and in a baby chair (car seat) which I bought second-hand for them to sit in on display. I enjoy seeing them in the various cute outfits that I bought for them and I occasionally change their outfits, usually keeping with the seasons (ie: summery outfits during spring-summer months and bunting and such during cold months). I don't have any real children but I do enjoy my dolls.

edit - September 2006: I recently got another Mi-Bebe doll that is the same size as Lindsay. I named her Leigha. When I got her she had a damaged cloth body and damaged eyes and so I made her a new cloth body and bought some new doll eyes for her. I took apart her old cloth body and used it to make a pattern for her new cloth body but I changed the design of the arms slightly to give her more "shoulders" and I crafted flanges for her limbs and added loc-line style doll armature inside of her new body so that she could be more poseable. She turned out so well that I tried making a body like that for Lindsay too. Now they are both about and inch or two taller than they were originally (I added a little length when I made their new cloth bodies and the flanges add length to their limbs now as well).

I have really begun to enjoy creating portrait photos of my dolls and now I have taken many cute photos which I enjoy viewing and even have used some as wallpaper on my computer desktop :) My two very favorite photos are the photo of Leigha in her pageant dress and tiara and the photo of Aiden in the Gymboree "Vintage Bear" outfit. I also really love the "Flower Baby" photo of Leigha and the photos of Lindsay in the yellow Winnie-the-Pooh dress and overalls outfit.

edit - February 2007: I recently made new cloth bodies for Ethan, Aiden and Evan and now each of them have poseable loc-line style armature inside of them.

edit - December 2010: I no longer collect/photograph dolls or baby clothing but I will leave this page and their photos up for anyone who would still like to enjoy viewing them :)

Lindsay wearing her adorable Winnie-The-Pooh dress set. Click on the photo to see the larger version.
This little sweetie is Lindsay. She is a Mi-Bebe doll, designed by Berjusa/Berenguer and made by Karsuji Inc. of Spain, circa 1980. She is 27 inches high and is made of vinyl with a cloth body and has brown sleep eyes, rooted platinum blonde hair and pierced ears.

This little cutie is Ethan. He is a Magic Baby doll, made in Spain by D'Anton Jos company. I think they are using the same molds that Karsuji Inc. used to make the Mi-Bebe dolls, since they are nearly identical and with the same "b.b. made in Spain" marking on the back of their necks. Ethan is about half an inch shorter than Lindsay and has rooted brown hair and brown sleep eyes and has a cryer mechanism inside (Lindsay's cryer is broken). I bought him brand new in April 2001 from Wigsnthings on e-Bay, who (at that time) was importing the Magic Baby dolls from Europe.

This lil angel is Aiden. He is a Berenguer "La Baby" doll that I bought from bsunderman on e-Bay. He measures 20 inches long and is weighted to feel like a real baby.

This little princess is Leigha. She is also a Mi-Bebe doll, designed by Berjusa/Berenguer and made by Karsuji Inc. of Spain, circa 1980. She is a little larger than Lindsay, since I have made her a new cloth body. I added Loc-Line style armature inside her new cloth body so she is also a bit more poseable than she was originally.

Here are some of my favorite photos of my dolls: I have so many photos of them which I like that it was really difficult to choose which ones to post so I ended up posting many. I enjoy shopping on eBay to buy them cute little second-hand baby outfits to wear :)
