	<p>
	  The Aldinga Scrub Conservation Park is located on
	  the Fleurieu Peninsula some 46&#160;km south of Adelaide and
	  lies between the coastal townships of Aldinga Beach in the
	  north and Sellicks Beach to the south.
	</p>
	<div class="imageLeft"><img src="GRAPHICS/airphot5.jpg" /></div>
	<p>
	  This aerial photograph, taken in 1992, shows the Aldinga
	  Scrub with Aldinga Beach housing to the north (top of
	  picture) and the area popularly known as Silver Sands to the
	  south. The Washpool and the remnants of the Blue Lagoon
	  appear at the bottom of the photograph.
	</p>
	<p>
	  The Aldinga Scrub is one of the few remaining patches of
	  native vegetation characterising the pre-settlement coastal
	  scrubland in the vicinity of what is now greater
	  Adelaide. It is of rare significance and is noted for its
	  unusual association of plants including species
	  characteristic of sclerophyll forest, mallee scrub and
	  coastal sands.
	</p>
	<p>
	  From the early years of the twentieth century the Aldinga
	  Scrub has been threatened by diversion of water through
	  drains to the open sea. In the post WW2 period disturbance
	  to the coastal dunes and the gradual invasion of residential
	  development has further put the Scrub at risk.
	</p>
	<p>
	  In 1985 the Aldinga Scrub Conservation Park was gazetted and
	  in 1987 the Friends of Aldinga Scrub was formed to protect
	  the Scrub and to lobby on its behalf. The Friends are
	  affiliated with the statewide Friends of Parks network.
