Tomorrow Is A Gift

Many things we need can wait The child cannot. Now is the time his bones are being formed, his blood is being made, his mind is being developed. To him we can-not say tomorrow. His name is today.~Gabriella Minstral

First Holy Communion
April 2006

Woo Hyuk made his First Holy Communion on April 23, 2006 at our Parish at age eight. He was grateful that his older sister was a teacher-helper for his second grade religious education class. She was 15 years old and this was her first year assisting the 2nd grade teacher with the First Communion Class. She continued on to volunteer for two more years, seeing her youngest brother received his first communion. We are very proud of her for her dedication and support for both her younger brothers and for God's love in her life. We feel very pleased, as her parents, to have a daughter with such a giving heart. This is a photo of our son with his class before mass on First Holy Communion Day.

Every year, our first communion class is asked to create a personal banner to be hung during their special ceremony day decorating our church. I've always tried to enstill a touch of their native culture in this banner making by having the wording also written in their native language. This is his banner, which he helped design and decorate with ribbon. I've used the same saying, 'Let the little children come...' for both him and his little brother's banner because it described what I deeply felt within my heart, as their mother. We were celebrating a joyful awakening in their lives, becoming part of the christian family, stepping out in faith, participating, and coming forward, to the table of our Lord for worship and spiritual nourishment.

Our son in our front yard on First Communion Day. Our beautiful
cherry bloosom trees were in full bloom celebrating his special day!

It was a beautiful 70 degree day. We celebrated at his favorite
restaurant, and had a barbecue that evening and ice-cream cake from
DQ for dessert.

Isn't it funny they have the same expression on their face.
