Women's Rights
After talking with an online
friend (who is also my partner on this project) about this subject,
we both decided that we needed to get involved to raise awareness
about the lack of women's rights, in this country and around
the world. I was given
links to some sites and was astonished at some of the things
that I read about. I knew that women in many other, especially
poverty-stricken, countries didn't have the same rights that
we do, but some of the things that happen are just outrageous.
The worst part is that nothing is done to the men who abuse,
scar, and mutilate these women. They are forced to live their
lives at the mercy of the men who make the rules but refuse to
prosecute men who harm them and their children.
In many countries, even this
one, women, and their children, are considered the property of
their husbands. I once read an article in a magazine about a
woman who was married to an Iranian man who talked her into going
to Iran for a vacation, then holding her and her daughter captive.
He knew that his wife would get no help from the Iranian government
because in that country, she is HIS property and therefore has
no rights. Once she escaped from him, she had to fight to regain
custody of her daughter becuase the Iranian government doesn't
have to follow the same laws and guidelines as the US. She eventually
got her daughter back and her story was made into a movie entitled
Not Without My Daughter.

committed against women by clicking the corresponding link below.
You may be shocked at what goes on in the world while we complain
about work and bad hair days. These women aren't usually permitted
to work and can be killed for refusing to marry, wanting a divorce,
or trying to prosecute their rapist. Women around the world have
absolutely no rights or value, except as sex objects and child
bearers.
