One Defining Moment
Disclaimer:
They aren't mine, but I wouldn't mind one.
They aren't gay, but we can still hope the best for them.
This isn't true, but we want to think it is!

JC sat on Lance’s sofa deep in thought. Lance knew exactly what it was about. They were going to go back on tour in two days. This would be the last night that they could be together. JC had spent the break with Lance under the guise of helping him work with FreeLance. The two didn’t spend much time working though; they spent most of their time just being together. They had kept their flings from their band mates, families, and management.

Lance was having a hard time justifying his feelings as a fling with a friend. He was very sure that he was in love and he wished he knew what JC thought of the situation they were in. They had tonight and that would have to do. In the morning they would be normal friends in the eyes of everyone else. Lance knew this would have to be the last time they did this, fling thing. He couldn’t take the pain of being with JC and not being with JC.

Lance joined JC on the sofa. He looked into the blue eyes of the man he was sure he loved. “Tomorrow’s gonna come too soon for me.”

“I was just thinking the same thing.” JC’s thoughts had traveled much the same path that Lance’s had. He knew that there should be something more between them. They hadn’t risked it because they were in the spotlight all the time. One mistake could cost Nsync its career. He was sure the other band members wouldn’t mind too much, in fact he was sure that Justin knew about him and Lance. It was their reputation that couldn’t be risked.

JC leaned over and pulled Lance close to him. They sat there looking at nothing in particular, perfectly happy for close to an hour. Lance was almost asleep when he felt JC’s breath on his neck and heard him whisper, “Are you willing to be had?” Lance’s nod was the conformation JC was looking for and the two quickly made their way to Lance’s bedroom.

Lance woke to find himself wrapped in the arms of the man he loved. It was six thirty in the morning. This was it. The alarm would go off in fifteen minutes and things would go on as if nothing had happened at all. His eyes began to fill with tears. These were tears he knew he’d cry. Lance had cried them every time he and JC were about to go back to standing as just friends and brothers rather than the lovers they wanted to be.

JC felt the body in his arms start to shake. He knew Lance was in tears and he pulled the younger man closer. It was in this moment that JC knew that Lanced loved his every bit as much as he loved Lance. Lance rolled over and buried his face in JC’s neck. They held each other until the alarm blared breaking the magic that stood between the two lovers. Lance pulled himself out of JC’s arms and disappeared in to the bathroom. When he came back out JC was gone to the guestroom he was supposed to have used during his stay.

It hurt to see the empty room. It hurt to think that they couldn’t be together all the time because of the way that world worked. It hurt to think that maybe their friends wouldn’t be accepting of their life choice. Mostly it hurt because he knew that they loved each other and neither of them could admit it because they were afraid of what the future might hold.

Lance was in the kitchen when JC caught up to him. He was cooking breakfast for the guys. They were all going to meet at Lance’s at seven thirty, in less than fifteen minutes. They had always promised that when the time came they would be hands off no matter how they were feeling about the situation. Lance was surprised to feel JC put his arms around his waist.

“I want you to promise me something. Next time don’t let me let you go.” The doorbell interrupted any response that Lance might have given and he left JC standing in the kitchen and went to answer the door. When he followed the others back into the kitchen the moment had passed and no one would have known looking at the two brothers that they could have been so much more.

Here’s To The Night – Eve 6
Horrorscope – RCA 2000

So denied, so I lied
Are you the now are never kind

In a day and a day love
I’m gonna be gone for good again
Are you willing to be had
Are you cool with just tonight

Here’s a toast to all those who hear me all too well
Here’s to the nights we felt alive
Here’s to the *tears you knew you’d cry
Here’s to goodbye,
tomorrow’s gonna come too soon

Put your name on the line
Along with place and time
Wanna stay not to go
Wanna ditch the logical

Here’s a toast to all those who hear me all too well
Here’s to the nights we felt alive
Here’s to the tears you knew you’d cry
Here’s to goodbye,
tomorrow’s gonna come too soon

All my time is frozen motion
Can’t I stay an hour or two or more
*Don’t let me let you go (don’t let me let you go)

Here’s a toast to all those who hear me all too well
Here’s to the nights we felt alive
Here’s to the tears you knew you’d cry
Here’s to goodbye,
tomorrow’s gonna come too soon (too soon)

Here’s to the nights we felt alive
Here’s to the tears you knew you’d cry
Here’s to goodbye,
tomorrow’s gonna come too soon
