After October

It would be a lie to say that he hadn't seen it coming, but the relationship was comfortable. The fall hadn't been a revelation, but a gentle let down. In the glory days of Nsync they had taken care of each other. The isolation caused the constant travel and the fame that they had achieved had made them look to each other before looking to outsiders. The love they found burned so bright. It really didn't matter how hard they tried to hide it, some people always noticed.

When they had fallen out of the spotlight he didn't know what to do. Singing was his way of life; it seemed to be the only thing that he knew. His lover was his support, pointing out his song writing and producing talents; urging him to remember he was more than just a voice, he was soul. His lover held him when he cried for his loses and celebrated with him his triumphs.

Eventually he found that he could stand in the world on his own two legs most of the time. His lover returned the business he loved and time passed for the two of them. A shallow distance bloomed as the two went about their business separate for the most part for the first time since they had met.

JC rolled over to look at the young man sleeping next to him. They had fallen out of love. It hit him when he watched Lance dream the other night. For the first time in years, he hadn't really cared who or what Lance was dreaming about or if those same dreams were pleasant or distressful. It didn't bother him that sex had become routine. It was simply time to let go.

Lance knew it was coming. JC's things had slowly trickled into his car over the past week. He wasn't surprised to feel JC softly kiss him on the cheek and then feel his weight disappear from the bed they shared. It was followed by the quiet click of his house key as he set it on the nightstand. It wasn't until the sound of the car engine had faded from Lance's ears, that he let his tears fall.
