Unfortunately, they is no miracle cure for depression. It often takes a mixture of both tablets and counselling. The hardest step when getting better from depression is the first step: Seeking help. family and close friends. This means that they are well on the road to feeling better.
The first thing that people suffering from depression will be able to offer any assitance to help the person
This is often the hardest part of depression because to start to get help you have to admit to people that you do have a problem and this can extremely nerveracking. But once they take the first step they need to do is admit that they are suffering with it to their to feel 'normal' again.
Below are a few steps to take to help you become free of depression:
Be Positive!
When dealing with depression it's important that you stop focusing on the bad points on your life and start focusing on the good points. With me, I found that when something happened in my life which i didn't like, instead of getting down about it I wrote down the problem and then listed some good things that had happened because of it. Even if i only got 1 good point about it and i knew deep down that there were lots of bad points i'd try to stop myself thinking about the bad points and to just concentrate on that one good point.
Tell People!
Don't be afraid to tell people that you are suffering from depression. They are not going to judge you for it. At the end of the day they'll be grateful that you trusted them enough to tell them whats wrong and all they'll want to do is help you not condemn you. Depression is not something to be ashamed of- It's not your fault!
Seek help!
It is important that you get help for your depression. Unfortunately depression does not go away on it's own. It may feel at times that it has but it WILL come back. Consult your GP as soon as you can. They will not judge you, they understand what you're going through and they know that it is not your fault. they only want to offer you help to get you through this difficult period in your life. Also, go and see a counsellor or psychiatrist. They will help you find out why it is that you're feeling this way and help you confront those problems.
Good luck in getting through this difficult period of your life. If you'd like to get in touch with me leave a message on my message board or e-mail me at:
