Psalm 54)

1 Save me, O God, by Your own self (see 20::1),
And vindicate me by Your strength.
2 Hear my prayer, O God;
Give ear to the words of my mouth.

3 For aliens (the Ziphites, or men of Keilah [1 Sam. 23;12]) are risen up against me,
And oppressors seek after my life:
They have not set God before them. Selah. (Connecting David's danger with David's true and only source of help.)

4 Behold, God is my helper:
The Lord is with them that uphold my soul.

5 He shall reward the evil to my enemies:
Cut them off in Your truth.

6 I will freely sacrifice to You:
I will praise Your name, O LORD; for it is good.

7 For He has rescued me out of all trouble:
And my eye has seen His desire upon my enemies.

(To the chief Musician on smitings.)

(I.e. the great smitings of my enemies by Yahaveh)
