What is Neon?

What is neon? When you think of neon, you generally think of the bright signs that you'd see in a city. But neon is an element from the periodic table. Here is some basic information on neon:

    Like other elements, Neon has physical and chemical properties.

    Physical Properties

  • Neon is an oderless, tasteless, and colorless gas. It is also part of the noble gas family.
  • At room temperature, neon is a gas.
  • Boiling point: -245.904 degrees celcius
  • Melting point: -248.447 degrees celcius
  • Density: 0.9 g/L

    Chemical Properties

  • Electron Configuration: 2s22p6
  • Natural neon has three isotpes. There are five others that are unstable that are known.
  • There haven't been any true compounds found, although some say that neon will form a compond with fluorine.
  • Neon plasma has a red-orange glow to it and the discharge of neon is very intense. It is the most intense of the noble gases.
