The Sphinx. Ohhhhh yes. The Sphinx.

The reason we're smiling so widely here is that we asked a couple who were obviously tourists like us to take this photo. We started joking with them about how much they were going to charge us for this service, as every other jerk in the place wanted something our of our wallets.

 

The photos below form walls of a temple that lead up to the Sphinx. The masonry-work is mind-blowing. You can see in these pictures how exactly these massive stones were fit together. Also, the stones were angled gently outward towards the sky and were perfectly, PERFECTLY even and flat. Not a single stone was over hanging another. Thinking about the fact that these walls were erected 5000 years ago without the aid of electrical stone cutters, hydraulic forklifts or cranes, or electric sanding machines (or whatever you use to smooth stone) was awe-inspiring. Truly.
