Let me start by saying that there are a handful of
authors that have been like gods to me and have added immeasurable to my own
craft: Ray Bradbury, Stephen King, Robert McCammon, Harlan Ellison, Charles
Dickins, Peter Straub, John Skipp and Craig Spector, Ed Bryant, Richard
Matheson, Richard Laymon, Robert B. Parker, John D. MacDonald, H.P.
Lovecraft, Robert E. Howard, Arthur C. Clarke, Clarke Ashton Smith, Lord Dunsany,
Anne Rice, Shirley Jackson, Poppy Z. Brite, Caitlin Kiernan and Clive Barker, to
name just a few. If you've never read some of these guys, you could do a
lot worse for your hard-earned money.
Of course, some books have meant more to me than
others.

Film has also played a large part in development as
a writer. There are some movies that have hit my soul like an arrow,
piercing me with equal parts pathos and beauty.

Music, to say the least, has kept me going when nothing else has been able to. I fell in love with jazz some years ago, and have been an avid collector ever since. Of course, there are quite a number of musicians that have inspired me that are kind of hard to categorize. I found here I needed two lists- one for artists and one for albums.
