Mrs. Blasquez's
5th Grade Class

Welcome to Mrs. Blasquez's Class! Here we will focus on keeping
everyone updated on our activities in class. We will also have "class authors" that will post things on our website as
often as possible.
Our class participates in many fun activities: We currently have
2 pen pals each: 1 from Ron Nunn and 1 from Garin. We write to
them often and enjoy getting letters in the mail from them!
Every Friday we participate in a class auction. This is our
favorite class activity. Here we get to make items, or bring
small items from home that can be "sold" (with "Colt Cash") to
our classmates.
Here's what we are doing in class during the
next few weeks:

Reading: We are currently reading
the book "Shiloh" and are now working on "reading comprehension"
skills by reading other short stories and answering questions. |
|
Science: We are now studying
vascular and non vascular plants.
We are doing experiments such as: dipping celery into two
beakers with different colors of food coloring and observing the
celery leaves to learn that plants absorb the majority of food
through the stems. |

Math: We are currently working on
place value and rounding and estimating decimals. |
|
Language Arts: We are currently
practicing our reading comprehension skills by reading short
stories and retelling the meaning in verbal and written form. We
are also learning how to write multiple paragraph essays, and
will soon be writing transitional essays and persuasive letters. |

Upcoming Events:
Mrs. Blasquez will be leaving on
August 26th to have a baby. She will return sometime near
November 3rd. Mr. John Drake will take great care of her
students while she is gone. |
