An Instant Classic
Mood:  bright
Now Playing: Dance Me to the End of Love by Madeleine Peyroux
Topic: My Life
In case you all haven't heard of her yet, I just wanted to recommend the latest CD by Madeleine Peyroux... my latest favorite and an instant classic. You don't often find albums in which every track is is brilliant. Her voice is a beautiful combination of Billie Holliday, Bessie Smith, Ella Fitzgerald with a little bit of Josephine Baker thrown in. You can listen to portions of the tracks on her website here.

Here is a link to an interview on NPR's weekend edition. You can listen to 3 full length songs from links from that page in addtion to the interview itself.

Watch out Norah Jones... you have some swift competition!

THE WINDHOVER
Topic: My Life
I love this poem, its imagery, and the pure sound of it. Thanks Karen for sharing it with me.

THE WINDHOVER

I caught this morning morning?s minion, king-
dom of daylight?s dauphin, dapple-dawn-drawn falcon, in his riding.
Of the rolling level underneath him steady air, and striding
High there, how he rung upon the rein of a wimpling wing
In his ecstasy! Then off, off forth on swing,
As a skate?s heel sweep smooth on a bow-bend: the hurl and gliding
Rebuffed the big wind. My heart in hiding
Stirred for a bird, - the achieve of, the mastery of the thing!

Brute beauty and valour and act, oh, air, pride, plume, here
Buckle! AND the fire that breaks from thee then, a billion
Times told lovelier, more dangerous. O my chevalier!

No wonder of it: sheer plod makes plough down sillion
Shine, and blue-bleak embers, ah my dear,
Fall, gall themselves, and gash gold-vermillion.

-Gerard Manley Hopkins

The Collinsville Chalkwalk
Mood:  bright
Topic: My Life
This is a photograph of the entry that my friend, Sue Bradley, and I did for our town's newest event, the First Annual Collinsville Chalkwalk. My town, Collinsville, is a very cool little artist community, nestled in Connecticut's picturesque Farmington River Valley. I've lived here for over four years now, and am having to leave for various reasons. Needless to say, I'm not that happy about moving, but I'm convinced that good things will happen for me out of doing so.

In the midst of my packing and moving, I came across this image reminding me of happy times here, and wanted to share it with you.

... Sue, if you see this, you are in my thoughts and my prayers always. Wishing you a speedy recovery.
