Tarot @ Hengewitch.com

There has been a phenomenal increase in active participation with the Tarot in recent years, and it has rapidly become the number one divination method worldwide. As such it can often be assumed that the same information will be gained no matter which Tarot reader you approach. While there are certain generic meanings for the cards, the methods of interpretation vary almost as much as the form the reading can take. Matters of religious or scientific belief can produce staggeringly different interpretations, and no one meaning can be stated as 'the truth'.

Here at Hengewitch, we offer a range of different readings and decks, providing a wide variety of different applications for this ancient divinatory form. Packs ranging from Celtic to Egyptian sit alongside more unusual modern and artistic packs, so whatever your taste you are sure to find a deck to suit you, and it does certainly help if you can relate to the appearance of the cards drawn for you.

To help you through this potential minefield of possibilities, we have provided a simple guide to what we offer.

Triple Moon Spread (TT3/TT9)

This spread uses three or nine cards, depending on the depth of analysis you require, to chart a monthly progress through the waxing, full and waning cycle of the moon. It is a useful 'short spread', and can be helpful if you are approaching a particularly trying time and need an extra bit of focus in times of stress. Please note: this spread is intended to be effective from New Moon to Dark Moon, so please bear this in mind when ordering a reading. To see a sample reading, click here.

Celtic Cross Spread (TCE)

This spread, arguably the most famous of all tarot spreads, highlights typically ten cards, one for each 'house', though more may be chosen in any given house if there is a particular area under consultation which requires closer examination. Though there are variations to how this spread may be used, I typically use the psychological approach, whereby the houses cover such areas as hopes, fears, obstacles, self-image and outer personality. Annual Spread (TA1/TA2)

This spread is a helpful 'year ahead' system, using twelve or twenty-four cards, depending on how deeply you wish to go. I usually recommend twenty-four, since this obviously provides more information, which can then be interpreted as a combined influence for any given solar month, or as a waxing and waning influence within the lunar month. This might sound complicated, but so long as it's clear which calendar you are working with, it really isn't any more confusing than a regular reading. To see a sample reading, click here.

Horseshoe Spread (THO)

This spread uses only seven cards, and is best used for one particular problem which needs looking at. It highlights the likely causes of a problem, and can be very useful in determining a solution. To see a sample reading, click here.

Golden Dawn Spread (TGD)

This spread uses fifteen cards, and is a complex variant on the Horseshoe, in that it works best when a decision is needed in a particular situation. It can bring out a lot of information about a problem, and suggest a number of ways to resolve the issue. Surprisingly for a Tarot spread, it also stresses those things which are unalterable and which must simply be accepted. To see a sample reading, click here.

Past Life (Single) Spread (TPS)

This spread uses 18 cards to provide a thorough examination of a particular past life, though obviously this is not always easy to pin down to specific times and places. Family, relationships, work, strengths, regrets, conflicts and successes are all indicated. This is a wonderful reading to have if you have a fascination with potential past lives you have lived, or if you wish to find out more about a particular life. To see a sample reading, click here. Also useful might be our Dowsing service (see here for more information).

Past Life (Dual) Spread (TPD)

This spread uses 21 cards to provide a thorough examination of a particular past life you have shared with someone, though obviously this is not always easy to pin down to specific times and places. Family, relationships, work, strengths, regrets, conflicts and successes are all indicated. This is a wonderful reading to have if you have met your soul-mate, or are convinced that you have known your current friend/partner/lover in a past life. To see a sample reading, click here. Also useful might be our Dowsing service (see here for more information).

Please Note: If you do not specify a deck when requesting your reading, the Connolly pack will be used as standard.

*NEW!* Stone Tarot

This is one for the crystal mad amongst you! Using various stones and crystals to represent the cards of the Major Arcana, there are at present two readings available, but we hope to develop more new forms soon. Focussing on the major cards of the pack, a reading is best designed when the heart of a problem needs to be examined closely. The stones work in the same way as the cards do, representing figures and qualities and suggesting paths to choose in times of indecision.

Triple Stone Spread (STT)

This is an ideal reading when you have a specific question in mind, or if you want a very brief examination of your current circumstances. Representing the past, present and future, it can be a quick and simple way to find out a little more about something that is bothering you. To see a sample reading, click here.

Pentagram Spread (STP)

This spread uses five stones, representing the background to a problem, the emotional and mental challenges resulting from it, and your possible course of action. It can provide more information than a three stone reading without going into the masses of detail that a larger format Tarot reading can sometimes do. To see a sample reading, click here.
