Open Spaces Collection

The Open Spaces Collection is biased on the continually shrinking open areas and farmland surrounding and within the town limits of Warrenton, Virginia. During May of 2004 with the threat of more development continuing behind the New Wal-Mart, I photographed the farm land there and the areas of Rhady Park that backs up against Fenton Farm.

The paintings in this online exhibit are from those open spaces. The urgency I discovered in photographing the area’s farms was not unfounded. Although Fenton Farm and its horse and cattle operation is protected from development as long as the Edwards Family is in control of it, The Area of the Old Virginia Gold Cup Race Course is now completely built up with single-family homes on 1/8-acre lots worth between $500,000 and $800,000 each, and completely occupied.

The large cattle and hay farm behind Wal-Mart, as of  Summer 2005 is, scarred with the installation of drain fields, water runoff ponds and the remaining beautiful expansive view of the rolling hay fields is now  blocked by the erecting of the New Home Depot. I will add more to this collection as time goes by.
