Dinner Conversations
Now Playing: school fight song
We were talking about things that happened while we were in school tonight. In the process, I learned a new (new to me, anyway) cheer. Goes like this: Rick 'em Rack 'em Rock 'em Ruck 'em, Get that ball and really FIGHT! Heard a story of a modern day shotgun wedding. Ok, so the only person armed was the naval guard, and he wasn't really involved, but still. I guess Jim was standing guard on the quarterdeck one day, and a real live hillbilly came up to him. Jim asked what he could help him with, Read More...

What am I supposed to do?
Now Playing: Jeopardy song
My boss told me to take lunch from 3-4 tonight. I clocked out and got my food, and Jim proceeded to get slammed with calls. We weren't scheduled to get any, but he ended up with 13. I probably should have gotten on and helped, but I was off of the clock, and I didn't know what to do. As a result, we had a few drops, which is to be expected when you only have one person covering the lines, and a bunch of calls come in. I hope I don't get in trouble for not getting on and helping take the calls.

3am and all's...well, not that great, really...
Mood:  caffeinated
Now Playing: white noise
Remember how tired I was earlier? Quadruple it. Of the last 39 hours, I have spent a mere 3 of them asleep. One of those twists of fate that makes it impossible for me to get to sleep when I'm overtired. Unless, of course, I'm at work. For some reason, I'm always sleepy here. Must be something in the air. Jim thinks that drinking our homemade espresso will keep me awake until my shift is over. From what I can tell, it's not working. I've had 4 "shots" worth, and haven't seen any effect whatsoever. Five and a half more hours...

Ridin' the big swingset of life...
My life has had some serious ups and downs today. First, I've gone 26 hours with no sleep so far (down). Second, I just bought some cute new mini ornaments for my tree next year, and a purple ring holder (up). Third, I got a letter from one of my patient assistance programs (they provide my prescriptions for free, since I can't afford them and don't have insurance) saying I was no longer eligible (down). Fourth, I checked on the wedding date, and it's not one of the prohibited ones, like I was afraid it might be (up). Fifth, I called around to the local pharmacies, and the cheapest I can get my newly non-eligible prescription is $216 for 2 months worth (big down, the kind that almost makes you get sick or fall off). And to think, I used to like swingsets....

ZZZZ.......
Now Playing: Brahm's Lullaby
I'm soooo tired. I have less than an hour left, and I'm pretty sure I'll make it, but I would just love to just go to sleep right now. That would look good, my boss catching me asleep when she comes in at 8. At least I know I wouldn't get fired for it. Actually, that's probably not a good thing. If I was worried about getting fired for sleeping on the job, maybe it would be easier to stay awake.........Just got a call and it scared the daylights out of me when it beeped in my ear. Sigh.

Wedding Bell Blues
Mood:  not sure
Topic: Wedding Plans
Found a pattern for a dress. It's 2 pieces, just like I wanted: a strapless A-line dress with an organza overcoat. Other than that, we still haven't made much progress. Haven't been to church, haven't talked to the priest, don't know what's required of us, don't know if the church is even available. GRR. Hopefully sometime soon, we'll get the ball rolling...

Just so you know...
I wanted to give the reason I haven't been posting as often lately. For two reasons, really. The first is that I had to help get our house cleaned and ready for company during Christmas. The second is that I usually post at work (overnight), and I haven't worked since the 15th. (Makes more sense now, doesn't it?) I go back to work on Friday (unfortunately, that's New Year's Eve), and I hope things will return to normal then.

Happy Christmas Everyone!!!
Mood:  happy
Jim and I both made out like the proverbial bandits today. He got a KitchenAid stand mixer (that he's been wanting for ages), a pair of chest waders (we'll have to get a larger size), the first 3 Harry Potter dvd's and Finding Nemo (special editions all), as well as a plethora of other thisses and thats. I got a beautiful 3 stone diamond ring (YAY!!), a fabulous hand-painted Japanese miniature chest of drawers, an interesting purple glass vase, A Chorus Line on dvd, a Mr. Coffee cappuchino/espresso maker (complete with grinder), a nice little lap harp, and other assorted goodies. And that's just what we got today. We went to Sarah's last night, and got other things there. Mom gave me a birthstone jewelry set (earrings, necklace and ring) that I love, and a set of pajamas. Anywhoo, we're both stuffed to the gills (the ham was divine) and pleased as punch. Hope everyone else's day has gone as well as ours has...

I'm beginning to think that cars are bad.
Jim just came in to work, and is telling me the tale of how a 17 year old took the grill off of her daddy's new 2005 Chrysler LeBaron with the rear end of his Bronco. Apparently he was in HyVee buying us snacks for work when it happened. He came out and saw a group of teenagers flipping out near his truck, with cell phones coming out of everywhere. Fortunately for us, it didn't hurt the Bronco at all. Unfortunately for us, the girl's father arrived and promptly jumped down Jim's throat. Obviously Jim must have done SOMETHING wrong, because this guy's little girl wouldn't have wrecked his car for no reason. Jim said he didn't see how that was possible, and the guy replied "We'll just see what my lawyer has to say about that." Now Jim tells me that this wasn't her first wreck! What a week.
