Harvest Fire

James 5:7     Be patient, brethren, until the coming of the Lord. See how the farmer waits for the precious fruit of the earth and how patient he is for the autumn and spring rains.

How can we wait patiently for the coming of the Lord? James 5:7 gives us a clue. How does the farmer wait for the precious fruit of the earth? How does he bear the toil and delays? He looks past all the work and delay to the harvest. The fruit is described as precious. The preciousness of the fruit harvested will more than compensate for all the past. This harvest of the precious fruit provides the hope we need to wait patiently, wait patiently for the Lord.

What part do the autumn and spring rains play? They are a necessary preliminary to the harvest. The early rain fell at sowing time, about November or December; the latter rain, about March or April, to mature the grain for harvest. The latter rain that shall precede the coming spiritual harvest, will probably be another Pentecost-like effusion of the Holy Spirit.

Psalm 126:5-6     Those who sow in tears will reap with songs of joy. He who goes out weeping, carrying seed to sow, will return with songs of joy, carrying sheaves with him.

Galatians 6:7-10     Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows. The one who sows to please his sinful nature, from that nature will reap destruction; the one who sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life. Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers.

The Lord has a firey passionate heart for the harvest.

Lord help each of us look forward to Your coming. Thank You for the promise of Your joy at harvest time. Prepare each of our hearts as we wait, give each of us Your firey passion for the harvest. In the name of Jesus Christ.

Help us each look forward with excitement to the joy that comes in the morning. Thank You that as we each do this - our faith in Jesus Christ will be strengthened and shine bright. Peace! Be Still!


Mark 4:39
He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, "Peace! Be still!" Then the wind died down and it was completely calm.

Can you picture this? You're in the midst of a violent storm, you're afraid to the point of death. You call on Jesus and He commands 'Peace! Be Still!'. In an instant there is perfect calm, perfect peace. Jesus can do the same today. He can turn any situation around in an instant. He can calm any storm - both those raging around us & those within our hearts.

PRAISE! The drain is removed from Sheila's head and she is transfered from intensive care to a room.

Please keep praying for my daughter Sheila. She has developed an infection which they are treating with antibiotics and the antibiotics are making her very sick as there is nothing on her stomach. They will test her throat again today to see if she is ready to start swallowing. Your prayers are working, please, if you would, cover her with prayer.

Luke 4:39     So He bent over her and rebuked the fever, and it left her. She got up at once and began to wait on them. Lord please rebuke any fever or infection in Sheila's body. Let the medicine do it's job - please relieve the discomfort Sheila is in. Glory be to God. Let this infection leave so quickly that no other explanation is possible - but that You touched her with Your healing hand. Let this draw many to Jesus Christ. In the precious name of Jesus Christ.

God be the Glory! This prayer was answered and I still have the spirit of the Lord all over me! I just got the news few minutes ago look!

    for all the prayers in helping Selmo's wife and children held for 3 MONTHS in Brazil.
    Tomorrow night, they are coming home!

    He drove up, rang our door bell, yelled so loud: THEY'RE COMING HOME!!!

The drain tube has been shut off for 48 hours now, (unless they turned it back on overnight) and Sheila has had not build up of fluid on her brain. Your prayers are working, they are heard and this is the best testimony that I know of to prove it. Please continue to pray that God might be glorified in her healing.

I am asking for prayer....I believe I need to go out and find a job.....I've had a bad experience in 2000 where I was terminated from a job after 5 years. This has truly left its mark when I am interviewing.....so I am asking for prayer for a job where I can earn decent income and where my skills will be used effectively and where I will honor the Lord....I really enjoy working in the Administrative Support Role with short and long term staffing agencies so I do pray that I can find an agency that will retain my services.

Thanks...I truly believe that I am quietly falling into a depression (after counseling I am learning the signs) with moving, we had some unexpected expenses so I am a little worried about bills.

Come Follow Me - cont'd

John 12:26     Whoever serves me must follow me; and where I am, my servant also will be. My Father will honor the one who serves me.

Yesterday's message is still following me today - especially John 12:26. If you are truly serving Christ - you must follow His lead. Look at the awesome promise in the second part of this verse - Jesus is with the one who follows & serves - the Lord honors this!

Look what someone said about the picture - I didn't think of this before!

    Oh, Karen, that picture of the double rainbow is
    absolutely perfect. It's like we are to be
    as He is...the first rainbow is Him and we are to do our best
    to be like that one. When two rainbows are together, one is always less vibrant..like us.

I think maybe this is part of the honor of following Christ - we get to look even a little like Him - beautiful!

This is exactly how I felt when I left the episcopal church last year. I felt like I left everything behind to follow Jesus - this was difficult but He has blessed my family - I'm just starting to see some of these blessings!

Come Follow Me

Mark 1:17     "Come, follow me" Jesus said ...

Everyone has probably played the game "Simon Says". In the game, one player is appointed Simon, the leader, and the object of the game is to catch a player following an instruction that wasn't prefaced with the words, "Simon says". So in order to win, you had to listen carefully to the leader and follow only those instructions given by the leader.

Think about the calling of the disciples. Jesus the leader would say "Come, follow me" and the disciples would hear His voice and follow immediately. In Mathhew 8:22 they couldn't even go back and bury their dead. Isn't this a little like the game "Simon Says" with Jesus as the leader? Are we listening carefully for His voice and trying to follow His instructions?

Today, this same Jesus is watching over each of us, as we go about our work and daily activities. And, as the leader, His words to us are the same as they were to the disciples: "Come, follow me". Today, are we listening carefully for His voice and trying to follow His instructions?

John 10:27     My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me.

John 12:26     Whoever serves me must follow me; and where I am, my servant also will be. My Father will honor the one who serves me.

Thank You Lord that You are still calling us today. Help each of us listen for Your voice and follow. Thank You that as each follows and serves You - they will be honored. In the name of Jesus Christ our Lord.

The Other Side

Philippians 1:21     For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain.

A sick man turned to his doctor,as he was preparing to leave the examination room and said, "Doctor, I am afraid to die. Tell me what lies on the other side."

Very quietly, the doctor said, "I don't know."

"You don't know? You, a man of faith, do not know what is on the other side?"

The doctor was holding the handle of the door; on the other side of which came the sounds of scratching and whining, and as he opened the door, a dog sprang into the room and leaped on him with an eager show of gladness.

Turning to the patient, the doctor said, "Did you notice my dog? He's never been in this room before. He didn't know what was inside He knew nothing except that his master was here, and when the door opened, he sprang in without fear. I know little of what is on the other side of death, but I do know one thing...I know my Master is there and that is enough."

This was sent to me via email. It's kind of neat because it goes with the sermon I heard last sunday. Paul in philippians 1:21 knew this kind of confidence in his Master the Lord. Do you have this same confidence?

I spoke to my cousin Shirley today. She is not doing very well. She has Lukemia and it has become active again. She is also diabetic along with some other health problems too. Could we pray and ask Jesus to place her in the palm of his hands and that her Lukemia goes back into remission soon. Also, I would like prayers for Shirley, that she may be relieved of some of these other health problems. Thank you so much for all of your prayers.

Please continue to pray for my daughter Sheila. She has come out of the coma and knows where she is and what happened to her. She is even putting a few words together to make sentences. Please pray for her as she goes to surgery this morning to have a plate and screws put into her broken ankle. I know it will take weeks and perhaps even months of rehabilitation for her to get better, Please pray that God be with her and all of us through this awful ordeal. Yesterday she asked a friend of hers to pray that she might be able to have a diet coke and that God will keep loving her. Right now, she can have nothing by mouth and being more alert, she wants a drink badly. Thanks Jim

Praise!
On Sunday,October 10th at 4:46 p.m., Joshua Isiaih Purves was born. He was 7 lbs., 10 oz and 20" long. He is absolutely beautiful. Cheryl is doing really well and was awesome during labour.

Paul and I praise the Lord that Joshua is healthy and just a true joy to behold. Thank you for your prayers for him. We are truly excited. Both Mom and son came home yesterday afternoon and are settling in fantastically.

The Word

The Word Became Flesh

John 1:1,14     In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 14The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.

Most people have heard of John 3:16. Let's take a look!

John 3:16-19     For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. 17For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. 18Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God's one and only Son. 19This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but men loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil.

check this out - read these verses again using "the Word", instead of "Son."

Jesus Is Lord!

Ephesians 1:3,9-10     Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ. 9And he made known to us the mystery of his will according to his good pleasure, which he purposed in Christ, 10to be put into effect when the times will have reached their fulfillment--to bring all things in heaven and on earth together under one head, even Christ.

Jesus is Lord! God's plan is purposed in Christ. It centers on Christ coming at the right time. God's plan is to bring unity in Christ by making him Lord of all!

So the real issue we face today is this: What area of our lives, our hearts, our secrets, our sin, our rebellion, have we not submitted to his lordship?

Thank You Lord that Jesus is above all. Help each of us to kneel in your presence, convict us by your Word, remind each of the areas not yet fully submitted to your control and Jesus' lordship. Please, dear Father, use the Holy Spirit to gently show each how to be wholly lost in your will. Help each of us surrender all to You. Glory be to God! In Jesus' name, Lord of Lords, King of Kings.

Please pray for my Mother and Step-Father. Mom (Marian Wahl) will be having surgery on October 13th to have cancer removed from her face (by her eye) and the surgeon hopes to get it all but if not, she may have to have another surgery. My Step-Father Ed has had problems with his kidneys, lungs and heart. He is having a cat-scan on October 12th and we pray that whatever may be ailing him will be found and he can be healed.

Please pray for Jessica and Jai. Jessica is 11 weeks pregnant. When she had an ultrasound last week, they noted the baby's stomach was bloated which could mean that the baby is bleeding internally. I pray for healing of this young child, still growing in her Mom's belly. Also, pray for a job for Jai - a good job where he will shine brightly, bring honor into his life and be able to provide for his family.

Pleasing Words & Hearts

Psalm 19:14     May the words of our mouthes and the meditations of our hearts be pleasing in your sight, O Lord, our Rock and our Redeemer.

These words are often used in worship, or as a prayer, or sometimes before a sermon is delivered. The request is made that the sung, silent, or spoken words of our hearts be acceptable to God. That's a prayer, of course, that only God can grant. When any of us read God's Word, praying for the guidance of the Holy Spirit, we can believe that God will accept and bless the thoughts it prompts us to think and the words it prompts us to speak.

The closing address to God in a way sums up the whole psalm. God is revealed in nature as our Rock - strong, solid, powerful, dependable. God is revealed in Scripture as our Redeemer - personal, loving, rescuing and restoring.

We give you thanks, O God, for this psalm and for the light and truth we receive from it. Guard each of our words and hearts, let them reflect Your glory. In the name of Jesus Christ.

Alongside My Master

Galatians 5:25     Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit.

Have you ever walked a dog? When you first leave the house, he pulls on the lead like crazy. He is just so excited, it's very hard to hold on. In fact, to onlookers, it looks like he is taking you for a walk. If you speak his name and tell him to "Heel!", he doesn't listen.

You then may take him to an open place to remove the lead. He then runs off steam, chases himself, a ball or a stick. After a few minutes of this he is ready is go back on the lead. Now, when you say, "Heel!" he listens, and walks right beside you. Now and then you have to remind him, but he usually listens and does as he's told. He's then happy to walk alongside of his master, 'keeping in step', no longer trying to pull ahead.

I'm afraid to say that this parallels my own life sometimes. I don't always obey my Master's commands. I try to run ahead and not listen. I stretch the lead further and further. I find, though, when I do listen and obey and not try to be the one in control, I feel much, much better. It's like I need a tug on a lead to remind me.

How do we walk alongside and 'keep in step' with the Master? We can 'keep in step' by consciously dependending upon God - this means staying in touch with His presence. Whatever keeps us in touch with our need for Him, combined with a heart that is willing to follow Christ, keeps us in step with Him. Things like prayer, bible reading, christian fellowship, worship ... are a few things to keep us in His presence. Also as we 'keep in step' the fruits of the Spirit(Gal 5:22-23... love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control) will be evident in our lives. These are recognizable qualities that only God can produce. Are you keeping in step today or trying to pull ahead with your own strength?

Psalm 32:8     Thank You Lord for Your promise to instruct and teach us in the way we should go; that You will counsel and watch over us. Help each of us depend on You, walk alongside You and keep in step with You. Thank You that as each of us does this the fruit of Your Spirit will be evident in our lives. Yesterday Cheryl had to go the hospital for an ultrasound and during the ultrasound the technicians noted the baby's heartbeat was low. It was 104 and the normal heartbeat is supposed to be between 110 to 160. Cheryl saw her doctor who while checking noted the cervix has softened but he had a very hard time trying to see if she had dilated. Last week she had dilated 1cm (tip of a finger) but this week there was some difficulty with the cervix. It has softened (such terminology!) which is good however there appears to be something wrong in it not moving forward. Cheryl had to go back to the hospital for a stress test. While the baby's heartbeat still was low, there were times when he was active that the heartbeat increased but it seemed to maintain itself at the 118 - 123 rate though it did dip to 108 a number of times. Cheryl, if she doesn't go into labour on her own this week, on Monday will be in the hospital for the first stage of inducing. If the gel they use doesn't start the actual labor then on Tuesday she will go in and be induced by IV drip.

Please pray for Cheryl. She is worried and so am I. Had the heartbeat remained really low yesterday they would of delivered him yesterday and I praise the Lord that the tests show she has an active baby with a heart rate that is within the normal range. I have to share with you that when Cheryl first became pregnant, I had prayed for her and the baby. One day while praying, I saw a baby's head surrounded by this glowing while light - I knew without a shadow of a doubt these were God's arms surrounding Joshua and have felt for this whole pregnancy not only is Joshua a gift but God would take care of him. I was saddened yesterday with the worry for Cheryl and we are praying that she will deliver soon without having to be induced.

Thanks for your prayers. Prayers work. God hears us. God listens. God knows all and he is truly awesome and beautiful. I rejoice that I can pray to him and can stand together in prayer with you.

Psalm 84:1-4     How beautiful are the places where You live, O Lord of all! 2My soul wants and even becomes weak from wanting to be in the house of the Lord. My heart and my flesh sing for joy to the living God. 3Even the bird has found a home. The swallow has found a nest for herself where she may lay her young at Your altars, O Lord of all, my King and my God. 4How happy are those who live in Your house! They are always giving thanks to You.

Summer time is a great time to be a bird watcher, to wake up to the sounds of birds singing outside your window. A favorite activity for my wife and I is to sit outside on our deck in the early morning hours, with coffee in hand, to watch and listen to the birds sing and eat from our bird feeders.

With few exceptions, birds do not sing while on the ground. They sing during flight or while sitting on an object off the ground. Exceptions include the turnstone, which is a shorebird, and some field sparrows. Ornithologists believe that birds are too preoccupied with their vulnerability to danger to sing while on the ground.

The Psalmist recognized that the bird has found a safe place to sing. It is in God's House. "How lovely are your dwelling places, O Lord of hosts? My soul longed and even yearned for the courts of the Lord; my heart and my flesh sing for joy to the living God. The bird also has found a house, and the swallow a nest for herself, where she may lay her young, even Your altars, O Lord of hosts, My King and my God. How blessed are those who dwell in Your house! They are ever praising You." (Psalm 84:1-4).

Do you have a song in the heart? If not, could it be that you are preoccupied with so many things that no song ever surfaces? Let's gather at God's house and sing, sing, sing for joy!

God's Season

1 Corinthians 15:57-58     But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. 58Therefore, my dear brothers, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.

"I need to meet with you," said the man from England during a break at a conference overseas. We walked outside to have a coffee break and sat down. "God wants you to know that He removed your finances in order to reserve His reward for you in Heaven. He has done you a great service."

I was shocked. I'd never met this gentleman before. How would he have known I had lost a half million dollars in the previous few years, virtually all of my financial net worth, to some unusual calamities? We shared for the next several minutes.

That week, during our lunch and dinner times, I had been enjoying wonderful, juicy oranges from this island in the Mediterranean Sea. It came time for the gentleman and I to conclude our coffee break. We bowed in prayer. As we prayed, the man began to describe a picture he was seeing in his mind.

"I see a picture of a large orange tree. The tree is full of large, ripened oranges. They are beginning to fall to the ground. You are the tree!"

Again, I looked at the man with shock and amazement, and now tears in my eyes.

"You are the third person in three years that has had a similar vision during a prayer time like this. The first two people were also strangers to me."

I went back into the meeting rejoicing that God could be so personal in my life. He used a servant who had gone through similar trials to supernaturally speak a word of encouragement in a way that I would know it was God who was speaking.

There are times when God supernaturally speaks into our lives. He does this to demonstrate His power, His love, and His intimacy with us. Do not be surprised if God sends one of His messengers to speak into your life when you need it most. Be open to how God might want to speak into your life today.


Psalm 1:3     He is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither. Whatever he does prospers.

Jeremiah 17:7-8     But blessed is the man who trusts in the LORD , whose confidence is in him. 8 He will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit.

The Rope

Isaiah 41:10     So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.

The story tells about a mountain climber, who wanted to climb the highest mountain. He began his adventure after many years of preparation, but since he wanted the glory just for himself, he decided to climb the mountain alone.

The night felt heavy in the heights of the mountain, and the man could not see anything. All was black. Zero visibility, and the moon and the stars were covered by the clouds.

As he was climbing, only a few feet away form the top of the mountain, he slipped and fell into the air, falling at a great speed. The climber could only see black spots as he went down, and the terrible sensation of being sucked by gravity. He kept falling... and in those moments of great fear, it came to his mind all the good and bad episodes of his life.

He was thinking now about how close death was getting, when all of a sudden he felt the rope tied to his waist pull him very hard.

His body was hanging in the air... Only the rope was holding him, and in that moment of stillness he had no other choice but to scream: HELP ME GOD!!

All of a sudden, a deep voice coming from the sky answered:

- What do you want me to do?
Save me God!!

- Do you really think I can save you?
Of course I believe You can

- THEN CUT THE ROPE TIED TO YOUR WAIST...

There was a moment of silence; and the man decided to hold on to the rope with all his strength.

The rescue team tells, that the next day a climber was found dead and frozen... his body hanging from a rope. His hands holding tight to it... ONLY 10 FEET AWAY FROM THE GROUND…

And you? How attached are you to your rope? Will you let go?

Don’t ever doubt the things from God. You never should say that He has forgotten or abandoned you. Don’t ever think that He does not take care of you. Remember that He is always holding you with His right hand.
