Incorruptible Crown Imperishable Seed
November 2007

1 Peter 1:22-25
Now that you have purified yourselves by obeying the truth so that you have sincere love for your brothers, love one another deeply, from the heart. For you have been born again, not of perishable seed, but of imperishable, through the living and enduring word of God. For,

"All men are like grass, and all their glory is like the flowers of the field; the grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of the Lord stands forever."

And this is the word that was preached to you.

Isaiah 40:6-8
All men are like grass, and all their glory is like the flowers of the field. The grass withers and the flowers fall, because the breath of the LORD blows on them. Surely the people are grass. The grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of our God stands forever.

James 1:18
He chose to give us birth through the word of truth, that we might be a kind of firstfruits of all he created.

John 12:24
I tell you the truth, unless a kernel of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains only a single seed. But if it dies, it produces many seeds.

What is the imperishable seed? The imperishable seed is the Word of God (James 1:18 ). Seeds naturally die in the process of giving new life (John 12:24). Humans are given birth through a perishable seed. On the other hand, the Word of God, as the imperishable seed, gives new life (when received by faith & the breath of the Holy Spirit), remains unchanged, and does not die!

Man's old existence (perishable) is in contrast to the imperishable seed that gives new birth. This implies that the new person will also live forever and not perish ...

John 3:16
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

1 Corinthians 9:24-25
Do you not know that all the runners in a stadium compete, but only one receives the prize? So run to win. And everyone who competes for the prize is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a corruptible crown, but we for an incorruptible crown.

Incorruptible Crown Imperishable Seed

Grass withers
Flowers fade and fall (Isa 40:7-8)
Leaves turn brown and are swept away (Lev 26:36; Isa 64:6)
Fleeting beauty that can not be preserved
A mere breath, a passing shadow (Ps 144:4; Job 14:2)
Tarnishing gold unrefined
Glory born of a perishable seed.

Word of God, Word of truth
Beauty stands forever, preserved, unchanged
New birth from the imperishable seed (Ja 1:18)
Sown and received
Run to win, to receive the prize
The incorruptible crown (1 Cor 9:24-25)
Refined in the fire eternally gold. (Rev 3:18)

Psalm 1
Blessed is the man
who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked
or stand in the way of sinners
or sit in the seat of mockers.

But his delight is in the law of the LORD,
and on his law he meditates day and night.

He is like a tree planted by streams of water,
which yields its fruit in season
and whose leaf does not wither.

Whatever he does prospers.
Not so the wicked!
They are like chaff
that the wind blows away.

Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment,
nor sinners in the assembly of the righteous.

For the LORD watches over the way of the righteous,
but the way of the wicked will perish.

Hebrews 12:1-3
Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us. Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Consider him who endured such opposition from sinful men, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.

The Lion’s Den
November 28, 2007

Daniel 6:22-23
"My God sent His angel and shut the lions' mouths and they have not harmed me, inasmuch as I was found innocent before Him; and also toward you, O king, I have committed no crime."

Then the king was very pleased and gave orders for Daniel to be taken up out of the den. So Daniel was taken up out of the den and no injury whatever was found on him, because he had trusted in his God.

________________________________________________

This pic of the lions den made a big impression on me. Notice that Daniel has turned his back to the lions & is focusing on the Lord (a window, an open door Rev 3:8?). His hands are bound, and he his looking 'up' -- trusting God.

He is looking at his source of strength instead of the menacing problem. His back is turned to the lions!

Fix your heart on Jesus Christ our Lord -- He is our strength -- He is our deliverer!

Exodus 14:13-14
"Do not be afraid. Stand firm and you will see the deliverance the LORD will bring you today. The Egyptians you see today you will never see again. The LORD will fight for you; you need only to be still."

So today if you are in the lions den --
Turn your back on the lions and fix your heart on the Lord!
Be still and He will fight for you.

Psalm 57:1, 4, 7
Have mercy on me, O God! Have mercy on me! For in you I have taken shelter. In the shadow of your wings I take shelter until trouble passes.

I am in the midst of lions; I lie among ravenous beasts—men whose teeth are spears and arrows, whose tongues are sharp swords.

My heart is steadfast, O God, my heart is steadfast; I will sing and make music!

Revelation 3:7-8
“And to the angel of the church in Philadelphia write,
‘These things says He who is holy, He who is true, “He who has the key of David, He who opens and no one shuts, and shuts and no one opens”:“I know your works. See, I have set before you an open door, and no one can shut it; for you have a little strength, have kept My word, and have not denied My name.

to feel that need.

If hope is what you

The LORD strong and mighty, the LORD mighty in battle.

Lift up your heads, O you gates;
Lift up, you everlasting doors,
That the King of glory may come in!

Who is He, this King of glory?
The LORD God Almighty (The Lord who commands armies!) —
He is the King of glory. Selah.

Enter His Rest Today!
November 18, 2007

Isaiah 26:20-21
Come, my people, enter into your secret places, and let your doors be shut: keep yourself safe (hidden) for a short time, till His wrath is over.

Come, enter into your secret place
Be hidden, concealed in His tabernacle
Set high upon the Rock
Preserved from trouble
By the blood of the Lamb
Surrounded by songs of deliverance.

Come be covered with His feathers
Do not be afraid of the terrors of the night
Abide safely under the shadow of His wings
Let your doors be shut until the night is past
Until the day dawns and the bright morning star arises
In the beauties of holiness out of the womb of morning.

Come enter His rest Today!

Psalm 27:5
For in the day of trouble He will conceal me in His tabernacle;
         In the secret place of His tent He will hide me;
He will lift me up on a rock.

Psalm 32:7
You are my hiding place; You preserve me from trouble;
You surround me with songs of deliverance. Selah.

Exodus 12:22-23
You shall take a bunch of hyssop and dip it in the blood which is in the basin, and apply some of the blood that is in the basin to the lintel and the two doorposts; and none of you shall go outside the door of his house until morning. For the LORD will pass through to smite the Egyptians; and when He sees the blood on the lintel and on the two doorposts, the LORD will pass over the door and will not allow the destroyer to come in to your houses to smite you.

Psalm 91:4-5
He will cover you with His feathers,
         And under His wings you may seek refuge;
His faithfulness is a shield and bulwark.
You will not be afraid of the terror by night,
         Or of the arrow that flies by day;

Hebrews 4:11
Therefore let us be diligent to enter that rest, so that no one will fall ...

The Lord is still speaking to me about being 'shut in' with Him -- in the secret place.

I came upon these today ...

Nahum 1:7
The LORD is good, a stronghold in the day of trouble, and He knows those who take refuge in Him, those who trust in Him.

If you look at the rest of Nahum 1 -- this verse is the calm in the middle of the storm of God's wrath:

'THE LORD SHUT HIM IN' --- By Charles H. Spurgeon

Genesis 7:16
'The Lord shut him in.'

Noah was shut in away from all the world by the hand of divine love. The door of electing purpose interposes between us and the world which lieth in the wicked one. We are not of the world even as our Lord Jesus was not of the world.

Into the sin, the gaiety, the pursuits of the multitude we cannot enter; we cannot play in the streets of Vanity Fair with the children of darkness, for our heavenly Father has shut us in. Noah was shut in with his God. 'Come thou into the ark,' was the Lord's invitation, by which He clearly showed that He Himself intended to dwell in the ark with His servant and his family. Thus all the chosen dwell in God and God in them. Happy people to be enclosed in the same circle which contains God in the Trinity of His persons, Father, Son, and Spirit.

Let us never be inattentive to that gracious call, 'Come, my people, enter thou into thy chambers, and shut thy doors about thee, and hide thyself as it were for a little moment until the indignation be overpast.' Noah was so shut in that no evil could reach him. Floods did but lift him heavenward, and winds did but waft him on his way. Outside of the ark all was ruin, but inside all was rest and peace.

Without Christ we perish, but in Christ Jesus there is perfect safety. Noah was so shut in that he could not even desire to come out, and those who are in Christ Jesus are in Him for ever. They shall go no more out for ever, for eternal faithfulness has shut them in, and infernal malice cannot drag them out.

The Prince of the house of David shutteth and no man openeth; and when once in the last days as Master of the house He shall rise up and shut the door, it will be in vain for mere professors to knock, and cry Lord, Lord open unto us, for that same door which shuts in the wise virgins will shut out the foolish for ever.

Lord, by Your grace shut me in!

My Stronghold, My Refuge
November 20, 2007

Isn't it neat how the flood, pass over, and Nahum 1 all seem to have a safe place for the Lord's people to be kept as His wrath passes by?? Jesus Christ is our safe hiding place -- Hallelulia!!!

Colossians 3:1-4
Therefore, if you have been raised with Christ, keep seeking the things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God. When Christ, who is our life appears, then you also will be revealed with Him in glory.

Praise the Lord!!

My Stronghold, My Refuge

Nahum 1:7
The LORD is good, a stronghold in the day of trouble, and He knows those who take refuge in Him, those who trust in Him.

The Lord is good, He is our stronghold, He can be trusted!

Give thanks to the LORD, for He is good!
... His faithful mercy (lovingkindness) endures forever. (Ps 136:1)

The steadfast love of the LORD never ceases,
... His mercies never come to an end;
They are new every morning;
... Great is His faithfulness. (Lam 3:22-23)

He is an ever-present help in times of trouble. (Ps 46:1)
He is he LORD Almighty who is with us;
the God of Jacob is our fortress.
(Ps 46:7)

He will be like a hiding place from the wind
... a refuge from the storm

... like streams of water in the desert
... the shadow of a great rock in a hot and weary land. (Isa 32:2)

His name is a strong tower;
... the righteous run to it and are safe. (Prov 18:10)

Let us believe the enduring goodness of the Lord,
... even when we can't 'see' it.

Let us call on His name - our Lord Jesus Chirst
... and run to him, our stronghold, our refuge, our fortress
... to be kept safe within His walls under His wings.

Let us say
... "He alone is my refuge, my stronghold and my fortress,
my God, in whom I trust."
(Ps 91:2)

IN THE SHADOW OF HIS WINGS
Lyn McSweeney

I hide myself in the safety

Of the shadow of his wings

And he wraps them round me

I am hidden from everything

He nourishes and he cleanses me

Like no one ever can

He heals my body and my mind

From the scars that were left by man

He wipes away the tears I shed

As he releases me from pain

He plants my feet upon solid rock

Where I wont be hurt again

As I nestle in his "feathers"

I feel the love and peace

I never want to leave this place

This place of sweet release

How I love you Jesus my Saviour and my All

How I lived without you

I really can’t recall

For you have healed my memories

Of the things that have long past

And have created special ones

That I treasure and will last

Lord please let me stay

And rest some more

As you change things here on earth

I am so excited as I watch

Your Kingdom birth

I am hidden here in the safety

Of the shadow of your wings

My Saviour and my Lord of Lords

You are the KING OF KINGS

Mourning for the Pierced One
November 17, 2007

Revelation 1:7
Look, he is coming with the clouds, and every eye will see him, even those who pierced him; and all the peoples of the earth will mourn because of him. So shall it be! Amen.

Jesus, the pierced One --
His head was pierced with thorns --
His hands and feet were pierced with nails --
A spear pierced His side.

Zechariah 12:10
And I will pour out on the house of David and the inhabitants of Jerusalem a spirit of grace and supplication. They will look on me, the one they have pierced, and they will mourn for him as one mourns for an only child, and grieve bitterly for him as one grieves for a firstborn son.

They will look and see Jesus crucified
They will mourn

They will grieve bitterly
As one grieves for a firstborn son.

True repentance comes when
The eyes of men first look on the pierced one
And then weep, mourning for their sin.

The Father sends the Spirit so that
men will look upon the Son.

Amos 9:5-6
The Lord, the LORD Almighty, He who touches the earth and it melts, and all who live in it mourn—the whole land rises like the Nile, then subsides like the river of Egypt—
He who builds the upper rooms of his palace in the heavens and sets its foundation on the earth, who calls for the waters of the sea and pours them out over the face of the land—the LORD is his name.

Amos 4:13
Behold, He who forms the mountains, creates the wind, and reveals His thoughts to man, He who turns dawn to darkness, and treads the high places of the earth—the LORD God Almighty is His name.

Amos 5:8-9
Seek Him, who made the Pleiades and Orion, who turns deep darkness into dawn and daylight into night, who calls for the waters of the sea and pours them out over the face of the land—the LORD is his name!

Surrender Upon the Threshing Floor
November 15, 2007

Ruth 3:3-4
Wash and perfume yourself, and put on your best clothes. Then go down to the threshing floor, but don't let him know you are there until he has finished eating and drinking. When he lies down, note the place where he is lying. Then go and uncover his feet and lie down. He will tell you what to do.

Surrender Upon the Threshing Floor

Come bow before your King
A living sacrifice, a pleasing offering --Rom 12:1-2

Surrendered to the Father's will
In child-like faith and trust, be still. --Ps 46:10
.
Be washed in the word --Eph 5:26
The bride willing to be prepared, adorned
A robe of righteousness
A heart of peace

Patience and gentleness
Hearts of love dwelling in perfect unity. --Col 3:12-15
.
Anointed heads
Anointed with the oil of joy --Ps 45:7
The bride adorned in a garment of praise
Crowned with everlasting joy --Isa 35:10, 51:11
A sweet, sweet scent flowing down
from her head to the edge of her robes. --Ps 133
.
Sing, O Daughter of Zion, sing --Zech 2:10
Be glad and rejoice --Zeph 3:14
Behold, the Bridegroom comes to dwell
In your midst.
.
Come surrender, lay at His feet
Upon the threshing floor. --Ruth 3:3-4

Isaiah 61:10-11
I will rejoice greatly in the LORD, My soul will exult in my God; For He has clothed me with garments of salvation, He has wrapped me with a robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom decks himself with a garland, and as a bride adorns herself with her jewels. For as the earth brings forth its sprouts, and as a garden causes the things sown in it to spring up, So the Lord GOD will cause righteousness and praise to spring up before all the nations.

Zechariah 2:10
"Sing for joy and be glad, O daughter of Zion; for behold I am coming and I will dwell in your midst," declares the LORD.

My Cup Overflows
November 14, 2007

MY VESSELS
Lyn McSweeney

I AM pouring out

I AM pouring out into prepared vessels ~~~ vessels who have been through my fire

Vessels of humility

Vessels of love

Vessels who know my heart

Vessels who commune with me

Vessels of righteousness

Vessels who are prepared to pay the price

Vessels who see with spiritual eyes, who look further than natural things for they are the ones who see my mysteries …who walk in my truth

I will fill these vessels full to overflowing

Watch and see them pour out to others watch and see my precious ones

WATCH AND SEE MY SONS AND DAUGHTERS MOVING IN MY POWER

Watch and see what I am going to do through my vessels

WATCH AND SEE MY KINGDOM ADVANCE

***

Ezra 6:5
Also let the gold and silver vessels of the house of God, which Nebuchadnezzar took from the temple in Jerusalem and brought to Babylon, be restored and brought back to the temple in Jerusalem, each put in its place in the house of God.

Amos 9:11-13 (Amplified Bible)
In that day will I raise up the tabernacle of David, the fallen hut or booth, and close up its breaches; and I will raise up its ruins, and I will build it as in the days of old, that they may possess the remnant of Edom and of all the nations that are called by My name, says the Lord Who does this. Behold, the days are coming, says the Lord, that the plowman shall overtake the reaper, and the treader of grapes him who sows the seed; and the mountains shall drop sweet wine and all the hills shall melt [that is, everything heretofore barren and unfruitful shall overflow with spiritual blessing].

My Cup Overflows

Gold and silver vessels of the house of God
Refined, tried in the fire, restored
Heads anointed with the oil of joy
Hearts rejoicing made glad
Mouthes open wide filled with His praise
Sweet fragrance poured out at His feet
The Lion of Judah roars
The song of the redeemed
Burns before the nations
Homage, worship and adoration brought before the King
High praise and a double-edged sword
Cups overflowing in the presence of the King
Cups overflowing forevermore ...

Habakkuk 2:14

For the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the LORD, as the waters cover the sea.

As the waters cover the sea
Cups overflowing with His glory
Eternal pleasure, eternal joy poured out
Cups overflowing forevermore ...

You are my cup and my portion
My cup, forevermore Lord

You are my joy, my delight
My lot secure, My exceeding reward
My cup overflowing forevermore Lord.

Psalm 16:5,11

LORD, you have assigned me my portion and my cup;
... you have made my lot secure.
You have made known to me the path of life;
... you will fill me with joy in your presence,
... with eternal pleasures at your right hand.

Psalm 23:5-6
You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.
Surely goodness and mercy will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.

Psalm 27:4-5
One thing I ask of the LORD,
... this is what I seek:
... that I may dwell in the house of the LORD
... all the days of my life,
... to gaze upon the beauty of the LORD
... and to seek him in his temple.
For in the day of trouble
... he will keep me safe in his dwelling;
... he will hide me in the shelter of his tabernacle
... and set me high upon a rock.

Vision and Two Kinds of Wisdom
November 13, 2007

Proverbs 29:18
Where there is no vision, the people perish; but happy is he who keeps the law.

There are two kinds of wisdom, wisdom from above and earthly wisdom. There are two kinds of vision -- vision based on wisdom from above and vision based on earthly vision.

Do you see a man wise in his own eyes? There is more hope for a fool than for him. (Prov 26:12)

Do your eyes see clearly?

The law of the LORD is perfect,
... reviving the soul.
The statutes of the LORD are trustworthy,
... making wise the simple.
The precepts of the LORD are right,
... giving joy to the heart.
The commands of the LORD are radiant,
... giving light to the eyes.
(Ps 19:7-8)

Happy is he who keeps the law. Check your heart.

For this people's heart has become calloused;
... they hardly hear with their ears,
... and they have closed their eyes.
Otherwise they might see with their eyes,
... hear with their ears,
... understand with their hearts
... and turn, and I would heal them.
(Mt 13:15)

***
It is time to seek the LORD
Rend your heart, repent,
Turn to the LORD
Break up the fallow ground
Prepare your heart
For the Lord dwells with the lowly and contrite heart
Let the waters of your heart be stirred and flow
Flow along with the mighty power of the LORD
As His Spirit is poured out on all flesh
Rend your heart, keep it tender
It's time to seek the LORD while He still may be found
Let your heart be stirred and flow
Flow along with the mighty river of the LORD
As His Spirit is poured out on all flesh
Be revived! Receive!

Where there is no vision - no divine guidance or wisdom from above, the people perish - are uncontrolled, made naked.

James 3:13-18
Who is wise and understanding among you? Let him show it by his good life, by deeds done in the humility (gentleness, meekness) that comes from wisdom. But if you have bitter jealousy and selfish ambition in your heart, do not be arrogant and so lie against the truth {don’t brag/boast about being wise, that is the worst kind of lie} . This wisdom is not that which comes down from above, but is earthly, natural, unspiritual, of the devil. For where jealousy and selfish ambition exist, there is disorder, confusion and every evil thing. But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure. It is also peace loving, gentle at all times, and willing to yield to others. It is full of mercy and good deeds. It shows no partiality and is always sincere. And those who are peacemakers will plant seeds of peace and reap a harvest of righteosness.

Two Kinds of Wisdom

Godly Earthly
humbleness arrogance
gentleness forceful
meekness selfish ambition
peace loving bitter jealousy
willing to yield controlling
sincere hypocritical

Jars of Clay
November 3, 2007

Clay
Byron Putnam

Flesh fades and falls away in the presence of unfailing love. Satan’s noose had a death grip. Adam’s rope gave way to hope of eternal life. Be loosed to victory. Home is our aim. The blood of Abel is in the stream. Run light in the steps of Enoch. Noah’s ark was framed by God’s word to the saving of his house. See the atmosphere of Abraham’s cloud. Righteousness is revealed. Resist the devil until royal blood runs into mercy. God's counsel to your conscience will keep you clear of the precipice of pride. Sin has plagued your serenity, tormented your sanity, and troubled your sanctity and peace of mind. Flee the chaotic cacophony that threatens the quiet place. Cemented hardness was a heavy millstone pulling the wanderer into darkness. In Christ your discernment is no longer deceived. We set our compass toward joy.

Run to the well and bring the pitcher. The Suffering Servant serves the mighty warrior who defeats the enemy with Gideon’s triumph. Disciples look for a servant in the city. Catch the deep breath. Blow the trumpet. Sound the clear word from heaven. You are the sounding symphony of the kingdom of God. Faith is found in you. Brave warriors are well prepared to roar with the Lion of Judah. Stay in step with the army of God. The change is necessary. Yield to the turn. Jesus lifts the burden and shares the weight of the yoke. Rains have caused the desert to bloom like a garden. The word of grace is a deposit from an ocean of love. Self surrender is a clay pot filled with diamonds.

Blessings
Byron

November 2, 2007

Psalm 143:3-4
The enemy pursues me, he crushes me to the ground; he makes me dwell in darkness like those long dead. So my spirit grows faint within me; my heart within me is dismayed.

Psalms 10:1
Why, O Lord, do You stand far off? Why do You hide Yourself in times of trouble?

Have you ever felt like this, surrounded by darkness? Your hope sinking, growing dim? As if God was far away or hidden?

I felt like this recently and 'stumbled' across Psalm 143. Notice what the psalmist does when surrounded by darkness. The psalmist recalls what God has done in the past - God is faithful - His faithfulness is your shield and rampart (Ps 91:4).

Psalm 143:5-6
I remember the days of long ago;
... I meditate on all your works
... and consider what your hands have done.
I spread out my hands to you;
... my soul thirsts for you like a parched land.

The psalmist then assumes the position of prayer and worship, earnestly seeking the Lord's will & direction. He puts all trust in the Lord, the Lord's unfailing love. This trust in the Lord, this hope in Christ, is what leads from darkness to light. This trust, especially in the darkness, is the Lord's delight!

Psalm 143:8
Let the morning bring me word of Your unfailing love, for I have put my trust in You. Show me the way I should go, for to You I lift up my soul.

Psalm 147:11
The LORD delights in those who fear him, who put their hope in his unfailing love.

Psalm 30:5
Tears may flow in the night, but joy comes in the morning!

Hebrews 6:19
We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure.
