Wonderful Name

Job 1:21     Blessed be the name of the LORD.

Why are there so many names for Jesus?

Maybe each name reveals something different and allows us to learn a different aspect. Maybe it's to reach different individuals. Maybe it's beause His love is all-emcompassing.

Each name is a window through which we see Him more clearly. Such seeing leads to knowing. In the case of One as flawless and winsome as Jesus, knowing leads to loving.

His Name is Wonderful

Matt 1:23    The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel - which means, God is with us.

John 1:14    The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the One and Only who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.

I John 4:9    This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him.

John 1:29    … John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, "Look the Lamb of God, who takes away the sins of the world! …

Rev 22:13    I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End.

Matt 1:21    …and you are to give him the name Jesus (the Lord saves), because he will save his people from their sins.

Matt 27:37    Above his head they placed the written charge against him: This is Jesus, The King of the Jews.

Luke 19:10    For the Son of Man came to seek and to save what was lost.

II Thes 3:16    Now may the Lord of Peace himself give you peace at all times and in every way. The Lord be with all of you.

Praise!: Glen
I want to thank all who are praying for me. My progress is leaping in HUGE bounds! Daily improvements. I will get walking with out aid this year. Praise the Lord. I went out for about a 2 mile walk yesterday and it went like a breeze. Little pain and I can move along fairly quickly. I have to use canes to aid me at this point but soon I will not have too. I can see it coming and I'm standing much taller and straighter. Praise the Lord For he is good! and his mercy endures forever.

Isaiah 35:6     Thank You Lord that You make the lame leap like deer. Lord we ask that Glen may walk. Let this healing amaze the doctors, let there be no doubt is was by Your hand. Glory be to God. In the name of Jesus Christ.
Isaiah 57:10     You were wearied by all your ways, but you would not say, 'It is hopeless.' You found renewal of your strength, and so you did not faint. Lord continue to help Glen turn to You, hope in You and find renewal of strength in You. Let the physical therapy be easier than expected. We thank You & praise You for the walk Glen experienced. Isaiah 40:28-31     Thank You Lord that Glen will keep hoping in the LORD and You will renew his strength daily. You will lift him up on eagles wings, he will soar, he will run and not grow weary, he will walk and not be faint. In the name of Jesus Christ.

Well I must tell you God does work things through to his glory even though it can be a process. This morning I met with the Pastor of our church to discuss my Spiritual Gifts. I have four very strong gifts - Intercessor, Faith, Hospitality and Discernment. The Pastor has asked me to start a Prayer Partner Ministry at the church. I would be leading others in receiving prayer requests, setting up with the Lords enablement Prayer Teams, Using email for our church members and their families to contact for each prayer need. What an awesome privilege this is!!!! I am in the process of learning how to do this for our church family. I'm super excited and believe God has been preparing me for this! As I begin the steps of learning, organizing and administering this awesome program, I am praying for protection (no wonder I've been feeling under attack lately - I have been) and that the Lord will open the doors and avenues for this wonderful ministry to take place. I am so grateful to the Lord for the gifts he has given me and I am so honoured to do all that the Lord wants me to do.

Dear Praying Friends: Once again we call upon you for prayer for Brian H. and his family. Surgery is this morning at 11:00 our time. Brian's second oldest child James about 6 had a very severe asthma attack yesterday, dr. wanted him in hospital. Fauna and Brian explained the situation and the dr. gave him extra meds but said they must watch him very carefully for any signs of distress. Fortunately Grandmom and Grandpop are with the kids. Pls pray that all will go well today. In

Set Free

What does truth have to do with freedom?
How has knowing the truth about Jesus set you free?


2 Cor 3:17     And where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.

The mall parking garage was full to the bursting. My brother Jay and I, excited but tired from a morning of shopping, were glad to escape the mall. The car inched toward the exit, four levels below. Jay paused to let another car into the line.

When the exit was in sight, I cheered, and Jay laughed at my little victory dance. We handed the attendant our validated parking stub. He had a beautiful voice with a musical Jamaican lilt. With a big smile, he wished us a happy day. Jay waited patiently for an opening in traffic, then made a right turn onto Fourth Street.

Traffic on Fourth wasn’t much better than in the garage. We crept along, trying to merge left, but just as Jay got his opening, a beat-up white van came careening trough, the driver laying on his horn. Jay swerved back to the right. We narrowly missed being sideswiped. And thanks to Jay’s evasive maneuver, we were back in the garage!

When the attendant’s booth was finally in sight, I realized that we had been in the garage so long that we needed to pay a parking fee again! Between us, we didn’t have enough cash to pay the flat rate without validation.

When we pulled through the booth, the attendant smiled and reached for our ticket. Jay explained, "We were forced into the garage to avoid an accident, sir. Can we just drive through?

Then the attendant gave a gracious nod and said gently, "This is not a prison." He eyed the traffic outside and pushed the button to open the gate just as the intersection cleared. "You are free!"

What a precious and joyful thing to hear! I thought. And as easily as that, we were safely on our way home.

Praise to you Father. By your grace, I am free!

The Lord Will Provide

Genesis 22:14     On the mountain of the LORD it will be provided.
Matthew 6:26,28     Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? See how the lilies of the field grow. They do not labor or spin.
Matthew 6:33     But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.

The Lord Will Provide

Genesis 22:14
So Abraham called that place The Lord Will Provide. And to this day it is said, "On the mountain of the Lord it will be provided."

The day after our son's wedding in Seattle, Washington, a couple of years ago, Lynn, our daughter Kendall and I flew home to Colorado. We were exhausted, but filled with wonderful memories . . . and a few questions about how life would be different for our family on this side of the milestone.

"Does this mean I can no longer call Derek and leave dumb messages on his answering machine?" Kendall asked, tears suddenly filling her eyes.

"Of course you can," I assured her, but her question touched off a few of my own. How will my relationship with Derek be different? How will I be a good mother-in-law? What will the holidays be like?

In my heart, I knew this was another familiar lesson in learning to let go, which always reminds me of the story of Abraham and Isaac, so I shared it with Kendall. "The Bible tells the story of Abraham, who was called to surrender or ‘let go' of his son Isaac on Mount Moriah. What a struggle that must have been! He knew what he was letting go of—the son God had promised him—but he didn't know what, if anything, God had in store for him. When he got to the place of surrender, he found that God had provided and had given him back even more than he had surrendered.

"Maybe that's how you feel now, Kendall. You know that you're losing your childhood relationship with your brother, but you don't know what you'll get in its place. That's where our faith comes in. We have to let go of the way things were in order to make room for the way they will be, and trust God to provide."

As I finished talking, I looked over at Kendall. She had fallen asleep. I could hardly blame her. Besides, the story was more for me than for her, and as I started to doze off, I began looking forward to the exciting new relationships we had ahead of us as a family.

Father, when we let go of something, You fill our emptiness with something even better.

Theses questions go to the heart of creation. However, they aren't original. They come right out of the Bible where God is the one asking these same questions of a discouraged man starting to doubt what he's always held as true. Listen to what God asks Job.

Job 38:8-11     Who shut up the sea behind closed doors when it burst forth from the womb? When I made the clouds its garment and wrapped it in thick darkness, when I fixed limits for it and set its doors and bars in place, when I said, 'This far you may come and no farther'.

Next time you start to doubt - look to nature -everywhere you look you'll discover the fingerprints of an Intelligent Designer.

Shelter

Learn to practice the presence of the Lord. Practice every day by reading His word and praying. Practice asking God to help you often during your day. Look for His guidance. Listen for His counsel. Let His Spirit show you how His Word applies to your life daily. If you practice His presence consistently, then, when fearful times come, you will be better prepared. You will have experienced His comfort in the calm hours and can trust Him for shelter in the chaotic ones.

Praise!: Sabrina
We praise our Lord again for yet another great doctors visit. Sabrina was very active today and she actually passed the non stress test for the first time - Wahoo!!! The amniotic fluid is about the same which is an answer to prayer.

As per the doctors recommendation, if all goes well, it looks like we(Faith) will deliver the babe on April 16th (she will be 36 weeks). We are praying that the babe flips ( she is still breeched ) so that Faith does not have to have a C-section... pray for the Lord's will there. We are back on the twice a week schedule so we'll be back to the doctor on Thursday. Thanks for keeping us in prayer for such a long time but I guess it's a way that we too can endure and persevere like our Lord and Savior did. He IS an awesome GOD! s

Please continue to allow the amniotic fluid to remain at a level to deliver a healthy, happy baby. Also allow the delivery to go much smoother than expected that all may see Your hand in it. In the name of Jesus Christ.
Matthew 19:26     Thank You Lord that with You all things are possible. We ask that You continue to guide the medical staff & family through this.

Because You Prayed

All of us believe prayer is good. But do we believe prayer is necessary? Do we see prayer as a mandate for our lives and as a requirement for God’s Kingdom to expand on Earth? Can God say to us, “Because you have prayed, I will act”? Or do we believe God will act without our prayers, do we assume He will act without us?

The story of Hezekiah in Isaiah 37 gives us a clue. In verse 21 God clearly was telling Hezekiah that because he had prayed, God would act on Hezekiah’s behalf. What would have happened if Hezekiah had not prayed? What if the king had merely assumed God would act? From this passage, it is clear that Israel would have suffered horrendous defeat.

God wants to act on behalf of His children if they will call on Him. One of the motives Hezekiah had in seeking God's help was "so that all kingdoms on earth may know that You alone, Lord, are God" (Is. 37:20). This is what happened. God was glorified.

Freely Forgive


Colossians 3:12-17     Therefore, as God's chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity. Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom, and as you sing psalms, hymns and spiritual songs with gratitude in your hearts to God. And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.

This seems to be a reoccuring theme this week.     ;)

Eph 4:32     Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.
1 Peter 4:8     Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins.

One Saturday afternoon I strolled over to the convenience store for a newspaper. When I stepped inside, the store was quiet and dark.

"Are you open?" I asked.

The clerk shrugged. "We're open, but I can't sell anything because the register is out. Some car hit a power pole on the edge of town."

As I browsed, hoping the power would return, I couldn't help pondering the far-reaching effect one person can have on countless others. One customer needed change to buy postage for an urgent letter. The letter would be late. A gasoline customer had to drive away on a near empty tank. Many other customers entered the store and promptly left. Sales would be down. And with the equipment malfunctioning, the clerk would have to stay late and check on it. All this was happening in just one of several stores and houses affected by the power outage.

Then I wondered what effect I have on others. What do my students lose when I don't teach well? How is my family affected when I am rude or impatient? What about strangers or people in service jobs, when I am unfriendly or curt?

On the other hand, who can measure the long arm of kindness or the electric effect of cheerfulness? Today and everday, I've learned I have the power to brighten my world and make it hum if I choose to. What kind of far-reaching effect can you generate today through kindness, love, peace or joy? Try it now!

Father, help me to remember that all my acts, big & small, will affect others, sometimes in ways unknown to me. So let me always act for good. -Daniel Schantz

I am asking for prayers for my neice Cindy and her baby. Her placenta is developed to full term ahead of schedule. Her baby girl is not full term. She has been taken out of work and placed on bedrest so that she may be able to avoid early delivery. They hope to be able to have Cindy carry to at least 32 weeks, 36 weeks is better. She needs our prayers asking our Lord to help her have the time needed for her baby to form in her womb.

Praise!: Sabrina
We are days away from the babe being 32 weeks and today we praise the Lord for yet another great doctors visit. Sabrina measured 32 cm which is right where she should be growth wise, we saw her heart beating away, and the amiotic fluid has stayed at an acceptable level. We are now beginning to get excited about meeting our babe Sabrina. We talked to Faith's OB today and he said he wanted to schedule a delivery date. Sabrina is breeched and because the amiotic fluid is so low they probably won't be able to turn her. Our hopes were if we made it far enough (34-36 weeks) Faith would be able to deliver vaginally. So now, along with praying for the amniotic fluid to maintain the level that it's at we are praying that Sabrina will do a little tumble for us and that Faith will not need to have a C-section. Another praise is that we don't need to see the doctor for an entire week - yippee!!! Hugs and kisses to our faithful brothers and sisters. Let everything that has breath Praise the Lord! Hallelujah! Psalm 150:6

Waiting is a way of hearing the silence of God. As we wait before Him, we begin to hear what God is trying to teach us when He seems not to respond to our prayers. In fact, in the very deliberate act of not rescuing us, or changing our circumstances, God often performs an even greater miracle—He transforms the person within.

Many of us will be greatly disappointed with God at some point in our lives. We will take our eyes off of Him. We will look at this world and at life’s circumstances, as Peter did when he took his eyes off of Jesus as he tried to walk across water. Like Peter, we will begin to sink into despair. Yet, if we turn to God in prayer and listen to Him through His Word, we will be transformed.

The more we draw upon God as our source, the closer we grow to Him and the more we begin to trust in His sovereignty. He reminds us that we are His precious children and He has our best interests at heart, no matter what we are going through.

As we trust God to work in our lives, in His way, rather than insisting upon our own way, we learn contentment. As we place our faith in His decisions, rather than our own, we begin to see that we have no reason to fear.

Although we are experienced adults, we must eventually give ourselves up to a childlike trust in an awesome God. We will never be disappointed. When we think God is being silent, perhaps we are simply not listening.

She then encourages us to wait patiently before God, as He builds our faith through adversity, and progressively purges us of our selfish desires.

Let us suppose that God responded to us every time we wanted Him to, in just the way that we wanted Him to. Isn’t it possible that we would try to use God in the same way that we use an ATM machine? Wouldn’t we want only the things that He can give us rather than wanting Him? God desires that we love Him, for who He is, not for what He can do for us.

Jesus made a profound promise to us in God’s Word: “Ask anything, according to My will, and you will receive it.”

That is powerful! Yet, there is a catch. It is true that we can ask Him for anything. However, that anything must be “according to His will.”

In other words, we must want what God wants. Often when God answers, He may not give us what we want, but He will give us what we need. The process is somewhat like giving a child medicine. The medicine is necessary, but it is not always easy to swallow. God is constantly teaching us that waiting on Him, is a faith building experience.

We must remember, “Those who wait upon the Lord will renew their strength.”

Yet waiting is uncomfortable for us. That is why we need to understand the principle that God is more concerned about our character than our comfort. In fact, He often uses our discomfort to build our character.

As we depend more upon Jesus, God begins to purge us of what “self” wants, and we learn to focus on what God wants. We begin to align our will with His will, to accept His responses and to believe in His promises. We begin to grasp what Jesus meant when, despite His agony in the garden He declared, “Nevertheless not My will, but Thy will be done.”

As we grow in our relationship with God, we may feel, at times, that we do not understand the way that He works in our lives. His plans are not always clear to us. Yet, He owes us no explanations. In Part 2 of a four-article series, Nancy McGuirk reminds us that God wants us to trust Him in all situations. When we encounter difficult circumstances, we are reminded of our great need for God. Sometimes, however, we do not understand that God is all we need, until He is all we have.

Let us imagine, for a moment, that we are one of the disciples sitting in the Upper Room three days after the crucifixion.

We are emotionally devastated and bitterly disappointed with God for allowing our dear friend and Savior to die on the cross. We pray. Yet, we receive only silence.

Perhaps we might picture ourselves as Mary or Martha, mourning the death of our beloved brother Lazarus.

We have prayed and sent word to our good friend Jesus, pleading for an act of healing. Yet, several days have passed and still there has been no response—only silence.

Let us imagine ourselves in Joseph’s place, sitting alone at the bottom of a well, left there by our brothers to die.

Where is God now? Is He unable to hear our cry for help? These questions are not perplexing to God. (Even Jesus Himself prayed three times for God to deliver Him from His inevitable fate. Yet, God, His Father, had a different plan.) God’s plan is not always clear to us in this life.

No one has ever experienced the silence of God more than Job of the Old Testament.

Yet, God makes it clear in this moving story that He owes us no explanations. Job discovered God’s power to transform his life through tragedy. God wants us to learn to trust Him in all situations.

Sometimes we must experience the worst possible circumstances in order to realize that God is all we need. Most of us, however, do not understand this concept until He is all we have.

Upon close examination, we clearly see God’s hand in all these situations. Despite His silence, we see that He was very much present, changing lives, and performing miracles.

Everything is continuing to look good - there is more amniotic fluid (praise - prayer request in bulletin), heart is doing great, and she's wiggly wigglin all around. We really are beginning to get excited because we're getting closer to our goal of 32 weeks. The threat of heading to the hospital early seems to have gone away because the amniotic fluid level is maintaing if not increasing in its amount. So we'll continue to pray and continue to thank everyone for their prayers and support.

UPDATE: Dustin the 9 year old with Hodgekins disease is in remission, NO ACTIVE cancer cells at this time (they are done with chemo), one of the tumors has shrunk 93% (or 97 I cant remember what she told me) they are still going to do radiation, which starts next week. (3 weeks of it)
Can we continue to pray for him...

BUT I now need a prayer for his mother Rusty, who is being checked today for a mysterious lump. I pray for her safety, God's healing in this family and that they will learn to turn to him OR be able to see the miracles he is performing in this family.

Although God seems sometimes silent, He is always very present and at work in our lives.
There are many instances in the Bible when God’s people believed that He had not heard their prayers, or would not answer them.
Later, they discovered (just as we often do) that He was only preparing them to receive His miracles.
We must remember, “Now we see dimly through a mirror.” We can’t understand how, and often why, God works the way He does. Therefore, we must learn to trust in Him for who He is, and not for what He does.

Do you ever wonder why God doesn’t answer some of your prayers – in the ways that you think best? God seldom does things the way we would do them. In this first part of a sensitive and informative four-article series, Nancy McGuirk encourages us to trust God for who He is, even when we can’t understand why He works the way He does. She reminds readers of many instances in the Bible when God’s people believed that He had not heard their prayers, or would not answer them. Later, they discovered (just as we often do) that He was only preparing them to receive His miracles.

One thing has become quite clear to me over the years—God does not do things in the same way that I would.

He informs us of this truth in Isaiah 55:8 when He declares, “My ways are not your ways, nor are My thoughts your thoughts.”

In the same passage He goes on to explain, “My ways are higher than your ways and My thoughts are higher too.”

In other words, God does things differently than we do them because He is God.

It is always when I expect God to act the same way I would, that I become disappointed in Him. When I ask God to respond in the way I think He should it seems that I get no answer. All I hear is silence.

We humans, with our finite minds, try to fit God into our picture of what we perceive to be fair and just. We want God to respond when we need Him to, and in just the way that we think He should respond. Yet, as we grow up in our faith, we begin to discover that life does not revolve around us. God created us. Therefore, He alone knows what is best.

We must remember, “Now we see dimly through a mirror.” We can’t understand how, and often why, God works the way He does.

We are not the first generation to be disappointed in God, or to experience what seems to be His silence. In fact, when we look at God’s Word, we find that we are in good company. As we read the Bible, we see that God was very much at work behind the scenes, in the lives of almost every person who was disappointed in Him. We realize that God was bringing each person to a greater knowledge of Himself, and deepening his, or her, faith in the process.

Don't Forget Me, Lord!

How long, O Lord? Will You forget me forever. --Psalm 13:1

Do you ever wonder if the Lord has forgotten you? Does it seem as if He's not paying as much attention to you as He once did? If so, remember that appearances can be deceiving. Regardless of how it looks right now, the Lord is not far from you. He may be giving you an opportunity to trust Him and wait for His help rather than rely on your own resources.

We are all familiar with a similar kind of testing in everyday life. What parent has not told his child to stay in a certain place until he returns? And what parent is not distressed if that same child is unwilling to wait but quickly runs off on his own?

David, the author of Psalm 13, reflected the thoughts of a child of God who certainly must have pleased the heavenly Father. He was being put to the test. He knew the experience of feeling that he had been abandoned by the Lord. Yet he remained convinced that his only real hope was in God, and that He would reward his faith.

Are you being tested right now? Does God seem far away? It's your opportunity to learn what David learned--that the Lord never leaves you. He sustains all who put their trust in Him. --MRDII

My Ways

Isaiah 55:6,8-9     Seek the LORD while he may be found; call on him while he is near.
"For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways," declares the LORD .
"As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts."

Has God ever surprised you? Has He ever revealed himself to be stronger or bigger than expected? This is what the prophet Isaiah is speaking about.

We can sometimes under-estimate God, thinking that we understand Him and have seen all there is to see. But we must always remind ourselves that God is far greater and more powerful than we have ever perceived Him to be.

God's power is real even though we may not see it, and His strength is enormous even though we may not feel it.

As believers, we must accept this by faith. We also need to give up our preconceived ideas of God and of how He works. The Lord is bigger than any box we try to put Him in!

Billie needs prayer support....so I am asking you to join me in lifting her up in prayer.....
to give you some background.....April 7, 2002, Billie lost her 16 year old son in a car accident and he passed away.....she has a 9 year old boy named Leland.....she works in the Health Care Support field where she goes into peoples/clients home to provide home care.....she has a passion for horses and raises ponies whom she hires out at parties for pony rides.....she is not married and lives in the country in North Carolina and though she has family, she like many others, does not have the support of them.....she is 53 years old...is trying to go back to school for nursing and is accepted at "Sandhills".......her father gave her his car so she can work and she was told she can no longer have the car and must return it......she has received 'food stamps' over the winter and just does not have the funds or income to be able to make ends meet......she is a very beautiful Christian woman whom I know loves the Lord, yet all that has happened to her has left her deep in pain and sorrow......it's difficult to see the love and purpose of the Lord when there is such raw pain.............
I am praying for her and just ask that we lift her up to the Lord and pray for blessings to pour into her life......pray that the Lord will smooth the path and open the doors for her....pray that healing begins and pray that she will receive the income and finances needed to support her family and make ends meet and pray for a car.....she needs a car and now that her family has rescinded on their promise/commitment to her, and with no funds, she is not going to be able to work....the cycle starts again........thank you for keeping her in prayer....I just pray that the Lord will move the mountains in her life......where she can't pray for herself, I believe we can.....
