Broken Heart

Psalm 34:18 The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.

Did you realize that when your heart is broken, the Lord is especially close to you? That's his promise to you, and furthermore he says he will save you. It's not going to last forever; he has something good planned for you.

Again in Psalm 147:3 we are told that "He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds." If you will go to God with your pain, he will heal it and bind it up so that it won't be unbearable. The heart of Jesus was broken for you, and God's heart was broken as he gave his only Son to die. We serve a wounded Savior, one who has suffered and understands the broken heart. But the great news is, he is also our Great Physician and he is the one who can heal your broken heart.

For Saundra; Sam; Ruth; Gloria; Melody; Jeanette; Grace; Glen; Evelyn; Cindy; Chris; Bryony; Gina; Andrew; Alice; Charlene ; Phil; Karen; Valerie; Ian; Irene; Linda; Billie; Nubia & Brenda

Carol, Beth Anne, Bob & Betty, Pam

Thank You Lord for Your promise to be close to the brokenhearted, that You will save those who are crushed in spirit. Lord, please be with the brokenhearted, please minister to them in personal and mighty ways. Dear Father, please rekindle their hope, empower them as they hold on to their faith. Pour out your Spirit with power, strengthening them - lift up their hearts. Help them find a renewed sense of hope in your presence. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

Healing a Broken Heart

Matthew 5:4     Happy are those who mourn, God will comfort them.

Feeling God's Comfort

Usually when you have a broken heart or crushed spirit God seems far away.

1. Realize that God is with you!
God is aware. Job 13:27 You (God) keep close watch on everywhere I go.

God cares. Nahum 1:7 The Lord is good. He protects those who trust Him in times of trouble.

God wants to help us. Hebrews 4:16 Whenever we are in need, we should go bravely before the throne of our merciful God. There we will be treated with kindness, and we will find help.

2. Release the hurt.
Stop focusing on what's lost and start focusing on what's left.

Isaiah 43:18 Forget what happened in the past, and do not dwell on events from long ago. God says, "I am going to do something new."

Romans 12:19 Don't take revenge, dear friends. Instead, let God's anger take care of it.

Psalm 10:14 But you, O God, do see trouble and grief; you consider it to take it in hand.

3. Rely on God's Resources

God's Alternatives to the Quick Fix

God's Word (Reading the Bible)
Psalm 119:25,52 I am completely discouraged...revive me by your Word. Your Word has been my comfort.

God's People (Your Brothers and Sisters in Christ)
2 Corinthians 1:3-4 Our God is a God of comfort. He comforts us every time we have trouble so that we can comfort others when they have trouble. We comfort them with the same comfort that God gives us.

God's Spirit
Romans 15:13 I pray that God who gives hope, will bless you with happiness and peace because of your faith, and may the power of the Holy Spirit fill you with hope.

This certainly is not an exhaustive list of verses to help you or someone you know heal a broken heart. But it is a start. My prayer today is that those of you who have broken hearts will try this list. The healing process begins when you begin. ; )

2 Cor 1:3-4 Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles! Lord please help those who are in nedd of Your comfort, turn to You seek You and find the healing that they need. Thank You that Your supply of comfort to us is never ending. In the name of Jesus Christ.

Covered
By Shari Smyth

John 17:15 My prayer is not that you take them out of the world but that you protect them from the evil one.

Jesus tried to prepare His disciples for the longest Saturday of their lives. He told them He'd be gone. He told them they'd be grieving, while the world rejoiced. "But your grief will turn to joy," He'd promised. Over and over, like a good teacher, He'd told them these things in different ways. In Gethsemane, He'd urged them to pray "that you fall not into temptation." But exhausted and sorrowful, they couldn't. So Jesus prayed for them. And all during that long Saturday when they huddled behind locked doors, weak, scattered and unbelieving, they were held in the grip of Jesus' prayer.

It was December. Moving day was weeks away. I was living with boxes, in a twilight zone of not here, not there. I was numb, hurtling toward the unknown. What was out there for Whitney and me, for my daugther in rehab? Waiting in the dark.

On one sleet-ridden day, I sat in a pool of lamplight on the dusty floor of our attic, sifting through memories of our four children, now grown and scattered. In addition to our daugther in rehab, there was a daugther in Oregon, a daugther in Hawaii, and a son in Maine. "Don't worry, Mom. We'll come visit," they promised. Among their treasures I found a few old Sunday school pages, Bible scenes with childish crayon scribbles that rendered them priceless.

I traced a yearning finger over an orange Jesus motioning a purple Zacchaeus from a sycamore tree. A red Jesus, arms and lap full of multicolored children; His timber-broen hair brushing little, uplifted faces; His eyes, even through the crayon, shining with love. Then I catch my breath. A praying Jesus, scribbled in black, kneeling at a rock, crayoned dots of red for the blood He sweated. Nearby are the sorrow-laden, sleeping disciples, ghostly white, with no color. I feel myself one of them - blank and unable to pray. Yet I am held in the grip of Jesus' prayer, of His praying for me still. I am protected.

For Saundra; Sam; Ruth; Gloria; Melody; Jeanette; Grace; Glen; Evelyn; Cindy; Chris; Bryony; Gina; Andrew; Alice; Charlene ; Phil; Karen; Valerie; Ian; Irene; Linda; Billie; Nubia & Brenda

Carol, Beth Anne, Bob & Betty, Pam

Lord, help us to pray always. But when we can't, thank You that we are covered by Jesus, that Jesus prays for us still.

From Dr. Chadwick's Church Ministry Site

Two Frogs

Two frogs fell into a can of cream, (or so it has been told).

The sides of the can were shiny and steep, the cream was deep and cold.

"Oh, what's the use?" said Number One, "It's plain no help's around."

"Good-bye, my friend. Good-bye, cruel world." And weeping still, he drowned.

But Number Two, of sterner stuff, dog-paddled in surprise,

And as he licked his creamy lips and blinked his creamy eyes,

"I'll swim at least a while" he thought (or so it has been said),

"It really couldn't help the world if one more frog were dead."

An hour or more he kicked and swam, not once did he stop to mutter,

Then hopped out from the island he made of fresh, churned butter.

Hebrews 12:1-3     ... let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us. 2Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. 3Consider him who endured such opposition from sinful men, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.

2 Cor 4:18     So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.

Hebrews 6:19-20     We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure. It enters the inner sanctuary behind the curtain, 20where Jesus, who went before us, has entered on our behalf. He has become a high priest forever, in the order of Melchizedek.

For Saundra; Sam; Ruth; Gloria; Melody; Jeanette; Grace; Glen; Evelyn; Cindy; Chris; Bryony; Gina; Andrew; Alice; Charlene ; Phil; Karen; Valerie; Ian; Irene; Linda; Billie; Nubia & Brenda

Carol, Beth Anne, Bob & Betty, Pam

Lord remind each of us that things are not always what they seem. Help each of us fix our eyes on Jesus so that we may run the 'race' with perserverance. Thank You Lord that as we do this we will not lose heart or grow weary. Thank You for our hope that is Jesus Christ. Anchor our hope securely in Christ.

Shell is home & had a wonderful trip!

Thank you all for all of your prayers. Shell couldn't stop talking about her week. She helped build a laundry room on to someone's house - pounding nails, sawing ... climbing on the roof ... doing physical labor in the sun for 7 hours a day?! We learned that Shell is a risk taker. They were supposed to give each other beads at the end of the day, each person could give one bead for - leadership, compassion, service or risk taking. I would have guessed compassion for Shell.

This trip was good for her. Part of the neat thing to see is how connected the teens who went on this trip are now - connected to each other & to the Lord! Our church is so blessed to have Pastor Nate & his wife Jen - they are leading an awesome youth ministry!

PRAISE THE LORD!!!

Psalms 47:2     How awesome is the LORD Most High, the great King over all the earth! Thank You Lord for answered prayer!! Glory be to God! Thank you for a successful S.C. mission trip. Thank you for Pastor Nate & Jen, please continue to bless their youth ministry. Thank you for the growth in each teen and those whose lives were touched by this group. Glory be to God!

Let the Lord Lead?

This is cute - but I find myself doing this very thing sometimes.

From John Mark Ministries

After starting a new diet I altered my drive to work to avoid passing my favorite bakery. I accidentally drove by the bakery this morning and there in the window were a host of goodies. I felt this was no accident, so I prayed, "Lord, it's up to you. If you want me to have any of those delicious goodies, create a parking place for me directly in front of the bakery." And sure enough, God answered my prayer. On the eighth time around the block, there it was!

Proverbs 3:5-6     Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding;
6 in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.

For Saundra; Sam; Ruth; Gloria; Melody; Jeanette; Grace; Glen; Evelyn; Cindy; Chris; Bryony; Gina; Andrew; Alice; Charlene ; Phil; Karen; Valerie; Ian; Irene; Linda; Billie; Nubia & Brenda

Lord, help each of us acknowledge You in all our ways. Show us how to lean on You, not our own understanding. In the name of Jesus Christ.

Our house is going up for sale on July 5th. Within the next two weeks, we have to finish the painting, paint the outside of the house, get rid of the junk and put stuff in storage. I am overwhelmed but have accomplished much already. I am asking for prayer (again) about the smooth transition of selling this house and purchasing a new house in Hamilton, ON. Our goal is to sell this house, put a down payment on another home and pay off our debts. God has been awesome with us and has really smoothed so much of our way but as I am a little stressed, I pray I hear his assurances. Please pray that this house will sell and whomever purchases it will find peace and joy within.

I also ask for prayer for Cheryl (my daughter who is pregnant) whom I am having a very, very difficult time with. She's scared about her future but has been lashing out and very rude and ignorant when she talks with me. She's angry and takes it out on me and considers me a pretty awful parent. Please pray that the Lord will guard my mouth and shut me up as I am beginning to really lash back and am tired of the abuse.
Thanks and blessings to you. Linda

For Linda & Paul's move
Matthew 7:7     Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. Lord please open the doors you want Linda & Paul to go thru to accomplish this move. Allow this transition to go smoothly and be guided by Your direction. Please put the right people in the right places at the right times to help. Keep Linda & Paul close to You, help them focus on You inspite of all that's happening in their lives, give them a real sense that You are right by their sides & You are in control.
Philippians 4:13     Thank You Lord that we can do everything through Him who gives us strength. Help Linda rely on Your strength and guidance to do all she needs to do. Thank You that as she relies on You her strength will be renewed. In the name of Jesus Christ.

For Linda & Cheryl
Colossians 3:13     Thank You Lord that You forgive us. Please help Linda & Cheryl bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances they may have against one another. Help them to forgive as You forgive. In the name of Jesus Christ.
Luke 6:45     Thank You Lord that they will be able to speak with their mouths what fills their hearts. Lord guard their words as they speak to each other, help their words build their relationship in You. In the name of Jesus Christ.

For all
Psalm 91:11     Thank You Lord that You will give Your angels charge over them in all their ways. In the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Still Smalll Voice

1 Kings 19:11-12     Then He said, "Go out, and stand on the mountain before the LORD." And behold, the LORD passed by, and a great and strong wind tore into the mountains and broke the rocks in pieces before the LORD, but the LORD was not in the wind; and after the wind an earthquake, but the LORD was not in the earthquake; 12and after the earthquake a fire, but the LORD was not in the fire; and after the fire a still small voice.

If you want to capture someone's attention…

Elijah was hiding out in cave. He'd just been very zealous for the Lord, many were seeking to take his life.

How did the Lord get Elijah's attention?

The Bible says there was a strong wind -
but God wasn't in the wind.
There was an earthquake -
but God wasn't in the earthquake.
There was a fire -
but God wasn't in the fire.

Then there was a still, small voice.

Have you ever had an experience like this? Sometimes we're so focussed or overwhelmed by our problems or circumstances we don't hear the Lord. We are so intent on what we want that we don’t hear what He wants. We forget to pause and listen for that still small voice.

Spiritual listening requires stillness, faith and obedience. And real communication requires pauses to let the other party get a word in edgewise. This may be why the Lord in His wisdom has given us *one* mouth and two ears!

John 10:4     ... and the sheep follow him, for they know his voice.

Psalm 46:10     Be still, and know that I am God ...

Psalm 37:7     Rest in the LORD, and wait patiently for Him...

For Saundra; Sam; Ruth; Gloria; Melody; Jeanette; Grace; Glen; Evelyn; Cindy; Chris; Bryony; Gina; Andrew; Alice; Charlene ; Phil; Karen; Valerie; Ian; Irene; Linda; Billie; Nubia & Brenda

Carol, Beth Anne, Bob & Betty, Pam

Thank You Lord that we know Your voice, that You are our shepherd. Remind each of us that it's easier to hear Your voice when we listen for You in silence. Help each of us rest in the Lord and wait patiently for that still small voice. In the name of Jesus Christ.

Knock At The Door
by Sheri Callewaert

I heard a knock at the door,
My heart was broken, so I ignored it.
I heard the knock again,
And again I ignored it.
The knock came again, and I heard God say "open up."
My heart was SO broken, I said "there is no God!"
Two more times, God asked me to open up,
But two more times, I denied Him.
He sat on my front step, telling me about Peter.
He said I was just like him, Three times denying God.
In a moment of silence,
the eyes of my heart were opened.
I asked him to tell me more,
He said "My Child, open the door to me, and I will
tell you all you want to hear."
I opened the door, and at His feet I fell.
He asked to hear my story,
and He held me in His arms as I wept.
I told him the things of my broken heart,
and He said,
"Beautiful child of mine, you are loved and you're
beautiful in my sight. I died for you. Look at all
I've given you!"
The Lord's arms held me,
As I realized the love He has for me.

Revelation 3:19-22     Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come into him, and will sup with him, and he with me. To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame and am set down with my Father in his throne. He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches.

Do you hear the Lord knocking today? Is there something the Lord has placed on your heart to do for Him?

Answer the door - let Him in, you'll be blessed!

For Saundra; Sam; Ruth; Gloria; Melody; Jeanette; Grace; Glen; Evelyn; Cindy; Chris; Bryony; Gina; Andrew; Alice; Charlene ; Phil; Karen; Valerie; Ian; Irene; Linda; Billie; Nubia & Brenda

Carol, Beth Anne, Bob & Betty, Pam

Thank You Lord that You are faithful, You are waiting at the door of each of our hearts. Help each of us answer the knock, open up and let You in. Thank You that as we do this we'll be blessed, blessed with Your peace & joy. In the name of Jesus Christ.

Zack is going to his dads for an overnight (6-19-04), this will really put his new seizure meds to the test he usually has seizures with anything new... if he has one his dad will probably NOT take him overnight again for awhile.... PLEASE pray that Z will stay healthy even with this fairly new thing and stay healthy so it will encourage his dad that he can handle Z medical issues on is own. (His medical issues scare him, and he is afraid he doesn't know how to handle anything that comes up and so he just visits him with me around or SHORT visits away from me)

If his dad took him more on overnights, that gives me a break, please pray that this works.

Shell & the other teens have arrived in S.C. It took 12 hours and there were no problems. Please continue to pray for safety, co-operative and teachable spirits and effectiveness of their service/ witness.

Joshua 1:9     Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.

Ears That Hear - Eyes That See

Revelation 2:7     He that hath ears, let him hear what the Spirit saith...

Here are two most amazing testimonies. They both touched my heart in a very special way.

The first is from a Christian woman who was severely beaten by her ex-husband. She told of how he had beaten her with the back of an axe. She was left deaf because of the physical abuse. She only recently became a Christian - she states, "I may be DEAF but I CAN HEAR the word of God!" That really stuck in my mind & heart.

The second is from a woman who told that Jesus was her best friend. What was amazing about her statement is that she also told that she is blind. As she put it, "being physically blind since birth, I am anticipating that glorious day when I really shall see Jesus face to face." Judging from her statement, she may not be able to see Him face to face...but she can see Jesus!"

These two women cause one to marvel again at the grace of God. I think about all of the lost who are able to hear, but do not hear the Word of God. I think about all of those who have eyes that are in perfect working order, but do not see Jesus. The Pharisees stood right before the Son of God, but they never saw Him! There were many who listened to His sermons, but never heard Him!

Oh, that we Christians would have ears that could hear what the Spirit of the Lord is saying to us. Oh, that we would have eyes that see Christ Jesus ever so clearly.

Christian, are you listening to the Lord today? Do you desire to hear what He is saying to you? Are you seeking His face this morning? Can you see Jesus?

John 12:21     "Sir," they said, "we would like to see Jesus."

For Saundra; Sam; Ruth; Gloria; Melody; Jeanette; Grace; Glen; Evelyn; Cindy; Chris; Bryony; Gina; Andrew; Alice; Charlene ; Phil; Karen; Valerie; Ian; Irene; Linda; Billie; Nubia & Brenda

Carol, Beth Anne, Bob & Betty, Pam

Thank You Lord for Your Son Jesus, thank You for Your word. Lord, please give us the spiritual ears of the woman who can hear you, though deaf. Give us the spiritual eyes of the woman who can see you, though blind.

Thank You for the Peace that You have left for each of us, the Prince of Peace - Jesus Christ. Help this family especially, experience the peace of Jesus at this time. In the name of Jesus Christ our Lord.

Are You Afraid of the Dark?

Have you ever been afraid of the dark? I remember many times as a child being afraid of the dark. My kids were both afraid of the dark when they were little. They used to be afraid of going into the dark basement. That dark basement even gave me the creeps sometimes. Yet I remember one time when I went down there to look for something - they came with me and seemed perfectly calm.

"I thought you were afraid of the dark," I said.

The answer came, "No dark. Mommy's here."

I said, "Oh, the light depends on who you're with!"

That got a smile as if a secret truth was known. Which indeed it was: The light does depend on Whom you stay close to, or Who you're with doesn’t it?

Whenever you find yourself in the dark, or you are walking through a dark time in your life, do not be afraid. Remember this:

Joshua 1:9     Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.

2 Samuel 22:29     Lord, You are my lamp. You bring light into my darkness.

Psalm 27:1     The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?

Psalm 119:105     Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.

The Spare Tire

From: http://www.living4jesus.com/295.htm

1 Thessalonians 5:17     Pray without ceasing.

It just kind of stays neatly packed away most of the time.

In fact, I usually don't think about it at all, unless I find myself in some kind of jam.

The spare tire on my truck is bolted in underneath the frame. I'll be real honest with you. I don't even know exactly where it is down there, and I certainly don't know how to unbolt it should I need it.

You see, since purchasing my truck about a year and a half ago, I haven't needed it. I bought the truck with only 15 miles on it, so the tires were perfect. I've simply not had a need for the spare tire. It's reserved for emergencies only.

And, like I said, I usually don't think about it at all. I'm just glad to know that it's there when I need it. Otherwise, it doesn't get much of my attention. I only pull it out when it's time to change a flat.

You know, many people treat God like a spare tire. You guessed it, they keep Him neatly packed away most of the time.

Some folks don't really think much about Him at all...

...unless they find themselves in some kind of jam.

And then, it's time to "unbolt" God and put Him to work.

It's very sad, but most of the time they just don't really see a need to pray to God. Prayer is reserved for emergencies only. Yeah, they only pay attention to Him when there is a crisis or problem that they want him to fix.

My friend, God isn't a spare tire. And He certainly doesn't like being treated like one in our prayers. He doesn't want us to give Him our attention in prayer only when troubles come along. He wants our attention ALL THE TIME!

What about it, Christian? Has God been reserved to "spare tire" duty in your life? Do you pray only when you have some emergency that you want Him to take care of?

Maybe it's time to change a flat this morning.

A flat prayer life.

Have a "Wonderful DAY in Christ,"

Praise!&Prayer:Sheila
Here is some more good news that I received just about 30 minutes ago that is nothing more than miracleous answer to prayer. As of today, my daughter Sheila has been placed on the National transplant list for a Pancreas and a kidney!

Although sometimes people stay on the list for months and even years. The lady told my daughter that they have been going through the list pretty rapidly this year and that it is possible that she could be transplanted within a month.

This comes about more because of the result of so many prayers being offered up for her than anything, and now your prayers for a rapid and successful transplant would be greatly appreciated.

May God bless you and keep you.

Job 12:10, Job 33:4, Gen 2:7     Thank You Lord that in Your hand is the life of every creature and the breath of all mankind. Thank You for Your breath of life. Please breathe Your breath, Your strength, Your hope, Your life, Your healing into Sheila. In the name of Jesus Christ.
Isaiah 40:28-31     Thank You Lord that those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. You will lift them up on eagles wings, they will soar, they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint. Help each involved turn to You, hope in You, thank You that as they do this You will allow them to 'soar'. In the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.

I feel like I am burning out....seems I have (or always have) loads on my plate......I need prayer as I have become too busy....I would really like to accomplish tasks that need to be done.....my home, we need to get it ready for selling and I need God's enablement to complete the tasks that need to be done.....please pray that each day that the Lord will enable me to keep my tasks simple and attainable and may I have a true spirit of joy as I meet those with whom I come in contact with......Also, we have started to look at homes and have decided it would be better for us to move to Hamiliton so please pray that the move will be successful - selling this house and buying a new home.

I must praise God as well....today I met a real estate agent whom I have met before and through chance talked about selling the house. He said he would take a 4% commission on the house (he is one of the cheapest....agents in our area are anywhere from 6 - 9%)....so thank the Lord for this.....

Thanks for your prayers....I truly need each one......I am trying to do too much and in essence getting very little completed.
God Bless you ALL

Discerning Truth

Here are some things the Lord has been showing me lately.

How can a true work of the Holy Spirit be distinguished from that which is false? In short how can we discern truth?

1. A true work/teaching lines up with scripture. I also believe a true work points people toward scriptures - elevating them as truth rather than shedding doubt on them.

John 14:6     Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me."

John 1:14     The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.

John 17:17     Sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth.

2. Challenge something that doesn't sound right from your position in Christ. Proclaim 'Jesus is Lord' based on your relationship with Christ.

1 Corinthians 12:2,3     "You know that you were Gentiles, carried away to these dumb idols, however you were led. Therefore I make known to you that no one speaking by the Spirit of God calls Jesus accursed, and no one can say that Jesus is Lord except by the Holy Spirit." (NKJV)

3. A true work/teaching won't cause confusion or doubt.

1 Corinthians 14:33     For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints.
There must be more - any ideas? This is important.

For Saundra; Sam; Ruth; Gloria; Melody; Jeanette; Grace; Glen; Evelyn; Cindy; Chris; Bryony; Gina; Andrew; Alice; Charlene ; Phil; Karen; Valerie; Ian; Irene; Linda; Billie; Nubia & Brenda

Carol, Beth Anne, Bob & Betty, Pam

John 16:13     But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all truth. Thank You Lord for Your Son Jesus, Your Word & Your Spirit, they are all truth. Please guide each of us into Your truth. Show each of us how to proclaim Your truth, how to proclaim Jesus as our Lord. In the name of Jesus Christ our Lord.

Take the First Step
From 1980 Guideposts

Genesis 28:15     Behold, I am with thee, and will keep thee in all places whither thou goest...

In Maryland's Patapsco State Park there used to be a swinging bridge. It hung suspended from the trees by a stout cable, and it led to the playground on the other side of the Patapsco River. Swaying back and forth, it offered a challenge to all us children.

In all the years that I went to the park, I never heard of a time when the bridge didn't hold. And yet, I was never quite sure that it couldn't fall. Sometimes I would stand at the edge, procrastinating, building up the nerve to take that first step. But because I didn't want to be left out of the games, I always crossed.

There is a bridge that links us with God, too. It's called faith in Jesus Christ. If you want to know the joy that awaits you in God's kingdom, you must use that bridge. But remember, there is no way across without taking that first step.

For Saundra; Sam; Ruth; Gloria; Melody; Jeanette; Grace; Glen; Evelyn; Cindy; Chris; Bryony; Gina; Andrew; Alice; Charlene ; Phil; Karen; Valerie; Ian; Irene; Linda; Billie; Nubia & Brenda

Thank You Lord for Your Son Jesus Christ, the bridge that leads to Your kingdom. Help each of us take that first step, in whatever the Lord has in mind for us today. Help us trust Your leading and boldly step out in our faith in Jesus Christ today & always. Remind us that the first step is sometimes the hardest, help each of us rely on You to get us moving. In the name of Jesus Christ our Lord.

John 14:6     Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me."

Would you please forward this prayer request as there is a 16 year old girl, my mothers 'step' grandaughter who really needs to be surrounded with prayer. Her name is Mandy and she has a serious eating disorder. Mandy's parents have tried everything possible and have had her at the hospital being force fed but it still hasn't helped. Her parents are watching her slowly die and the heartbreak and worry for this family is tremendous. Mandy is not receptive to help and doesn't see how serious this disease has become in her life. Nobody can say anything to her and she is just not able to believe she is valued, pretty and that she is not fat. This family is struggling and the mother Dorothy, is having operations on her legs as she was in an accident a number of years ago as well. She will never be the same. Please pray for this family who do believe in the Lord. Please pray for a miracle and that Mandy will finally know and hear deep within her soul, she is loved, she is valued, she has so much to offer this world and that she heals completely.
Bless you and thank you.
Linda

For Mandy & family
Luke 6:19     Thank You Lord that there is healing in Your touch. Please touch Mandy where Your healing is needed. In the name of Jesus Christ.
Isaiah 48:17     Lord we lift this whole situation to You, guide the medical staff & family as they try to help, show them what is best, show them the way in which to go. Open their hearts & minds to receive and act on Your direction. Please place people in the right place at the right time to help. Glory be to God!In the name of Jesus Christ.
2 Thessalonians 3:16     Now may the Lord of peace himself give each peace at all times and in every way. The Lord be with each.

Jesus Is Lord

This question has been on my heart lately.

How can a true work of the Holy Spirit be distinguished from that which is false?

I read this today:

1 Corinthians 12:2,3     "You know that you were Gentiles, carried away to these dumb idols, however you were led. Therefore I make known to you that no one speaking by the Spirit of God calls Jesus accursed, and no one can say that Jesus is Lord except by the Holy Spirit." (NKJV)

The Church must be alert and watchful against subtle infiltration by deceiving spirits and false teaching(1 Timothy 4:1 ). The crucial test of teaching or testimony, is that given concerning the person and work of the Lord Jesus. It is those who are deceived and falsely inspired who would call "Jesus accursed". Evil spirits characteristically blaspheme and curse the name of Jesus. The way to know whether a new teaching is a work of the Holy Spirit, is to challenge it and to proclaim Jesus is Lord. The false teacher(s) cannot, and therefore will not, say Jesus is Lord.

The genuine teacher when challenged, will affirm the Lordship of Jesus Christ. It is important to remember that even people who would normally assent that Jesus is Lord, will not do so under the deception of a false teaching. We can and should distinguish between the real and the counterfeit. It is expected of leadership that they exercise responsibility in this aspect, in their caring for those entrusted to them by the Lord (Hebrews 13:17 ). It is necessary to distinguish, not dispense with, the leading of the Holy Spirit. Rather obey 1 Thessalonians 5:19 KJV: "Quench not the Spirit." Discern the Holy Spirit's activities and respond with sensitivity and obedience.

This idea didn't really occur to me before (I don't know why). Proclaiming Jesus as your Lord may open not only your eyes, but others.

This kind of happened to me when I challenged my old priest and declared that Jesus is Lord & absolute truth. The response I got to this proclamation spoke volumes (it was the everything is relative speech, your truth may not be someone else's). Anyway this response clearly showed me & others where the priest stood. He was basically saying that Jesus is NOT absolute truth. This is clearly against scripture.

I think it shows the importantance of not only discerning truth but proclaiming it as well. Jesus Christ will never lead anywhere that goes against God's word -- they are both absolute truth!!! Proclaim it!!!!

For Saundra; Sam; Ruth; Gloria; Melody; Jeanette; Grace; Glen; Evelyn; Cindy; Chris; Bryony; Gina; Andrew; Alice; Charlene ; Phil; Karen; Valerie; Ian; Irene; Linda; Billie; Nubia & Brenda

Carol, Beth Anne, Bob & Betty, Pam

Thank You Lord for Your Son Jesus Christ & Your word, that both ARE truth. Help each of us proclaim Jesus as Lord. Help us proclaim the truth of God's word. In the name Jesus Christ our Lord who is full of grace & truth!

Bungee-Cord Faith
Lori Fiechter

Daniel 3:17-18     If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God we serve is able to save us from it, and he will rescue us from your hand, O king. 18 But even if he does not, we want you to know, O king, that we will not serve your gods or worship the image of gold you have set up.

It looks dangerous--plunging from a dizzy height with only a stretchy cord as protection against death or serious injury: Bungee-jumping. Miscalculations can kill; is the rope strong enough? elastic enough? not too long or too close to the ground?

Do we trust God the way a bungee-jumper trusts that cord--having the faith that He will hold us up when we jump out in faith? Do we have....bungee-cord faith?

Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego did. They told King Nebuchadnezzar "our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and he will deliver us out of thine hand, O king. BUT IF NOT, be it known unto thee, O king, that we will not serve thy gods, nor worship the golden image which thou hast set up." (Daniel 3:17,18)

They would trust God--even if He did not miraculously deliver them! (As Job said, "Though He slay me, yet will I trust in Him."13:15) There was no bargaining with God for these three friends; none of this "if you do this for me Lord, THEN..." Better than bungee-cord faith--absolute trust in God and His will. No "murmurings and disputings"--no complaining about their lot in life (we are captives in a foreign land--taken here against our will). They didn't argue with God, muttering, "Why me, Lord?

Abraham had that kind of faith. He believed that God's promises would be kept through Isaac even though he was asked to slay his son. (see Hebrews 11:19) Abraham didn't balk or try to understand first; he just obeyed. (Obedience to God's word comes before understanding; with God, "believing is seeing" and not the other way 'round") Notice that in Biblical examples of faith it was testing--even severe testing-- that proved how strong faith really was. We wouldn't think a bungee-jumper courageous if he plunged a mere four feet, would we?

Such a simple phrase "Trust and Obey"--a Sunday School song. And yet how true: there is no other way to be happy in Jesus.

Take the leap of faith--His strength will bear you up!

"Lord, increase our faith"

Are You Afraid to Get Your Feet Wet?

Why do people think the Christian walk is a dry walk? Could it be that we are afraid of getting wet?

Joshua 3:7,8,13     And the LORD said to Joshua, "Today I will begin to exalt you in the eyes of all Israel, so they may know that I am with you as I was with Moses. 8 Tell the priests who carry the ark of the covenant: 'When you reach the edge of the Jordan's waters, go and stand in the river.' 13And as soon as the priests who carry the ark of the LORD -the Lord of all the earth-set foot in the Jordan, its waters flowing downstream will be cut off and stand up in a heap.

When Joshua was given instructions to cross the Jordan into the promised land, the Lord told him to go and stand in the river. As soon as the priests touched the water's edge, the water from upstream stopped flowing. There was dry ground in the middle of the river so the Israelites could pass over. Joshua obeyed the command from the Lord. Common sense must have told him it was a hopeless cause to try to cross the river, especially since it was flooded. During most of the year, the Jordan River was about a hundred feet wide; but at the spring flood season, the river overflowed its banks and became a mile wide.

Faith and common sense are not in one accord. Faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see. Joshua had faith. If God said it, he did it! He had no fear of getting "his feet wet." And when Joshua and the people stepped into the water, it rolled away. It was a miracle of God in response to faith.

Unless we step out by faith (Josh.1:3; 3:14–17) and “get our feet wet,” we’re not likely to make much progress in living for Christ and serving Him. Each step that the priests took opened the water before them until they were standing in the midst of the river on dry ground. They stood there as the people passed by; and when the whole nation had crossed, the priests walked to the shore and the flow of the water resumed.

When Israel crossed the Jordan River, it was through the obedient feet of the people. Unless we are willing to step out by faith and obey His Word, God can never open the way for us. If you want to claim your spiritual inheritance in Christ, believe the Word of faith. Step out in faith and get your feet wet!

Hebrews 11:1     Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.

Hebrews 11:6     And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.

Lord, help each of us step out in faith today and get our feet wet! Help us listen for Your still small voice and obey. Thank You that as we do this we'll experience the joy of walking with You, step by step. In the name of Jesus Christ.

Is Your Hunger Satisfied?
Patricia Houck Sprinkle

John 6:35     I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst.

Katie has baked homemade bread for communion, a fragrant, golden loaf. We pass it around the table and each breaks off a piece before handing the loaf to her neighbor. But when it has been around, there is so much left! I am hungry and find myself wishing I had dared to take a larger piece. Why didn’t I? Was I afraid there wouldn’t be enough for everyone? Was I wanting only an amount I could easily chew? Did I think it would be bad manners to take more than a token piece?

As I gaze at that lovely bread lying unclaimed by those for whom it was intended, I meditate on how often I take small tokens too of the One Whom the bread represents. I remember tentative, small prayers … when I hungered for big ones. I remember taking minor risks in His name … when I hungered to dare great ones. I remember expecting little miracles … while I hungered for life changing ones. And I wonder how my own choice of small pieces of the Bread of Life has limited His ability to feed me.

Abandoning traditional manners, I reach again for the loaf. I am still hungry, and there is so much bread left. Come, won’t you join me? There’s an abundance of the Bread of Life - enough to satisfy all our hungers.

Carol, Beth Anne, Bob & Betty, Pam

Dear Jesus, today help each of us come to You and dare bring our hungers to You, - for You are the Bread of Life. Thank You that we will be satisfied. In the name of Jesus Christ the bread of life.

Ask, Seek and Knock
    Marvin Lewis

Ask and it shall be given you –
    The promise is the Lord's,
And surely we can trust in Him
    And in His precious words.
And if you'll seek you'll surely find –
    The Lord Himself doth say:
And not one seeking heart from Him
    Has e'er been turned away.

Knock and the door will open wide
From His great heart of love.
Your cup of joy shall overflow
    With blessings from above.

So ask Him much, and seek Him oft,
And knock – He's sure to hear.
To those who trust in child-like faith,
    The Lord is ever near.

Matthew 7:7     Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.

Hebrews 4:15-16     For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are--yet was without sin. 16Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.

For Saundra; Sam; Ruth; Gloria; Melody; Jeanette; Grace; Glen; Evelyn; Cindy; Chris; Bryony; Gina; Andrew; Alice; Charlene ; Phil; Karen; Valerie; Ian; Irene; Linda; Billie; Nubia & Brenda

Thank You Lord for Your mercy & grace. Please give each of us confidence to approach You to Ask - Seek -Knock. Draw each of us close to You, let us get a glimpse of Your mercy & grace today & always. In the name of our Lord & High Priest Jesus Christ.

The Oil Lamp (Words to Grow By)

Galatians 2:20     It is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me.

We ought to take a lesson from the oil lamp: It must be the oil that burns and not the wick, for if the wick burns without oil, it will destroy itself. We must immerse ourselves in Jesus and let Him burn to light the way, because if we try to do that ourselves, we'll soon burn out.

The flame of the lamp burns so beautifully and brightly and clearly when the oil burns, but it gets smoky and stinky when just the wick burns. The lamp's wick must be deeply immersed in the oil. Most of the wick is in the oil, and only a tiny tip of it is exposed to the air and the flame. That way, it's mostly oil that burns and very little of the wick--almost none. The oil flows freely through a wick that is deeply soaked in the oil. Then it is the oil that burns and not the wick, and it gives bright, pure, clear light.

_______________________________________________________
So stop trying to do the work yourself, and let God do it.
    Let go and let God!

_______________________________________________________

"It is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me" (Galatians 2:20). It is not I that burn, but Christ must burn within me. You can be a beautiful wick, but you'll burn black with too little oil. You must soak yourself in the oil, so you burn not, but He burns through you. Then you'll give pure light, smokeless light, clear light, beautiful light to all that are in the house (Matthew 5:15-16).

When I was a boy, they had beautiful kerosene lamps in every home, on every table. They had lovely glass bowls for the oil, so you could see their wicks and the level of the oil and knew when to replenish them. The lamp burned best when full of oil. When the level got low, too much of the wick would be out of the oil for the wick to be thoroughly soaked. Then the wick itself would begin to burn faster, and the lamp would give off smoke. We sometimes try too hard, work too hard, and try to do everything ourselves. To paraphrase the chorus of an old Gospel song:

Let go and let God have His wonderful way,
Let go and let God have His way.
He'll fill with His Spirit and burn day by day.
Let go and let God have His way!

So stop trying to do the work yourself, and let God do it. Let go and let God! Just let the Lord through. Let the oil burn. Let the Lord do it!

Prayer
2 Corinthians 4:6     For God, who said, "Let light shine out of darkness," made his light shine in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ.

Thank You Lord that Christ lives within each of us who has invited Him into our hearts. Help the light of Christ shine thru each of us and draw others to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ Our Lord.

Letting Go
From Daily Message

READ: Hebrews 11

Hebrews 11:7 (NLT) "It was by faith that Noah built an ark to save his family from the flood. He obeyed God, who warned him about something that had never happened before. By his faith he condemned the rest of the world and was made right in God's sight."

God calls His servants to release those things that they hold dear. This is most often the talents and skills that accompany an individuals' life. God can't begin to work until these traits are removed from one's strength and placed in His care. The dividing line between true Christ followers and "Sunday Christians" is the amount of faith displayed in recognizing God's dominance over our most experienced and trained strengths.

The "Hall of Faith" in Hebrews 11 displays many great men and women of the Bible who let go of their most trusted knowledge and abilities to live in faith. Noah released his knowledge of dry land to construct an ark to save the human race and all animals with it. Moses gave up the knowledge and traditions of the Egyptians courts to find God's calling in leading the Israelites out of slavery. He then led the people past the security of food and work in Egypt into a place where their faith would tested. And Joshua put down his weapons for a horn and silence as the walls of Jericho fell after seven days in the long-awaited Promised Land.

Each of these biblical characters took a step of faith to lay down what they understood in exchange for the unknown. Their lives were lived in faith not by their natural abilities, but through the working on the Holy Spirit to reveal supernatural strength in trying circumstances.

The fact of the matter is that you can't be used until you let go of every natural thing you are comfortable with. This includes your daily routine of comforts and strength. If God is to work, He must be in control. And if He is to be in control, you must hold not anything back that might put even the slightest bit of you in the picture. It must be all Him and nothing less.

Faith Lesson: Living by faith means letting go of your way of doing things and trusting God to provide.

Another WOW has happened. Paul was hired as a Manager of RVU, Central Region. This is what Paul has continuously sought - a Management Position - however, this position is where his experience and expertise will shine. It has been many months - (years actually) of prayer and waiting upon the Lord. It wasn't easy nor did we understand the silence either. But, by waiting, the Lord opened the door for Paul to be in a position where he already has knowledge and experience. Paul gives God all the glory and believes that God is the one who made all this happen. He's right but to hear it from him is awesome!

Now, it is official, we really need to move. Paul is not a commuter and the drive in traffic is very stressful. So please keep us in prayer as we continue to clean up the house to put on the market for sale. Please ask the Lord to bless the move and that he will provide us with a house closer Paul's work.
Thanks for all your prayers and thanks for continuing to keep us in prayer.
Linda

For Paul & Linda
1 Corinthians 1:9     God, who has called you into fellowship with his Son Jesus Christ our Lord, is faithful! Praise the Lord. Please continue to help Paul & Linda wait on You, Lord. Thank You for answered prayer.
Genesis 22:14     On the mountain of the LORD it will be provided. Thank You Lord for Your provision for this family. Thank You that You will continue to walk with them. Please bless this move - let Linda & Paul get a very real sense of Your guiding presence. In the name of Jesus Christ.
2 Peter 1:2     May the grace and peace of the Lord rest upon Paul & Linda in abundance through the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord!

HAVE THINE OWN WAY, LORD

Have Thine own way, Lord! Have Thine own Way!
Thou art the potter; I am the clay.
Mold me and make me after Thy will,
While I am waiting, yielded and still.

Have Thine own way, Lord! Have Thine own Way!
Search me and try me, Mater today!
Whiter than snow, Lord, wash me just now,
As in Thy presence humbly I bow.

Have Thine own way, Lord! Have Thine own Way!
Wounded and weary, help me, I pray!
Power, all power, surely is Thine!
Touch me and heal me, Savior divine!

Have Thine own way, Lord! Have Thine own Way!
Hold o’er my being absolute sway!
Fill with Thy Spirit till all shall see
Christ only, always, living in me!

Adelaide Pollard was forty when she was trying unsuccessfully to raise support to go to Africa as a missionary. She desperately asked God why she had such a burden for the needs of that continent when He did not provide her with the means to go. It was during this time of discouragement that Adelaide attended a small prayer meeting where a woman prayed, “Lord, it doesn’t matter what you bring into our lives, just have Your way with us.”

That night she went home and read the story of Jeremiah’s visit to the potter’s house. Later that evening she wrote this hymn. “Perhaps,” she reasoned, “my questioning of God’s will shows a flaw in my life. So God decided to break me, as the potter broke the defective vessel, and then to mold my life again in His own pattern.”

Jeremiah 18:6     Like clay in the hand of the potter, so are you in my hand.

Isaiah 64:8     O LORD , you are our Father. We are the clay, you are the potter; we are all the work of your hand.
