Everday Blessings

Ezekiel 34:26     ...there will be showers of blessing

"As the years pass, I am coming more and more to understand that it is the common everyday blessings of our common everyday lives for which we should be particularly grateful."
-- Laura Ingalls Wilder

What are you thankful for?
    Friends who listen
the off switch on the telephone ringer
    summer vacations
    my mom's homemade brownies
    white gardenias
quiet evenings at home in front of the fire
the men and women who serve our country
    Thanksgiving leftovers
    a new day
    God's perfect timing

Everyday blessings: Does their very dailiness take away our wonder or awareness of them? Have you ever noticed that when you see something everyday it sometimes blends into the background? Today go thru the day with 'open' eyes, look for those showers of blessing the Lord gives us each day. It will give your heart a lift.

For Everyday Blessings
William Webber

Dear God, Open my eyes to the beauty of this day.
The yellow of an egg yolk in a blue bowl.
The scent of bacon frying in the pan.
The soft caress of the morning breeze.
The sound of children at play.
Awaken my senses.
Let me see, hear and feel the beauty around me.
And be aware of the presence of the Great Artist in my everyday world.

For Saundra; Sam; Ruth; Gloria; Melody; Jeanette; Grace; Glen; Evelyn; Cindy; Chris; Bryony; Gina; Andrew; Alice; Charlene ; Phil; Karen; Valerie; Ian; Irene; Linda; Billie; Nubia & Brenda

Carol, Beth Anne, Bob & Betty, Pam

Thank You Lord for the showers of blessing you give to each of us everyday. Help each of us open our eyes anew to Your presence, Your grace and Your love in our lives. In the name of Jesus Christ.

The Lord Will Make A Way...Somehow
Connie Campbell Bratcher

When you come to the end of your pathway
To an ocean of shattered dreams,
And wonder how you could travel on-
No hope at all it seems...
Just remember the Hebrew children,
Somehow that sea did part;
Hallelujah...God made a path for them,
And He'll mend your broken heart.

When you come to the end of your resource,
And you know not what to do,
Just look to the God of heaven and earth,
He'll meet that need for you.
Remember the widow's little oil,
Somehow it never ran dry...
Hallelujah! Her every need was met
By the Lord's endless supply.

When you come to the end of your..self,
And you feel your life is o'er,
Surrender your all to the Son of God,
He'll bless you forevermore.
Just remember Paul's conversion
On that Damascus road;
Hallelujah! God touched his life that day
And forever lifted his load.

When you come to the end of your sin,
So broken, helpless and lost,
There's a Saviour ready to pardon you,
As He did the thief on the cross.
The Holy, Righteous Son of God
Hung beside him on a tree,
Hallelujah! He took his sin away
And set that captive free.

The Lord will make a way...somehow;
Somehow He'll carry you through.
What He did back then He will do again,
He will somehow make a way for you.

Heb 13:8     Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and today and for ever.

Thank You Lord that You are the same yesterday, today amd forever. Help each of us be open to Your leading and trust You to make a way - somehow. In the name of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Prayer: A Sacrifice?
By Carolyn Vanderraad

Psalms 141:2     May my prayer be set before you like incense;

In a recent Bible Study, our minister went through the book of Malachi, which tells us how upset and disappointed God was with the defiled sacrifices offered by Israel. The minister said that part of the sacrifices we offer to God are our prayers.

It made me wonder what is there about prayer that is a sacrifice? What do we give up of value when we pray?

One thing is our attention, our whole heart. For some of us, focusing is a real effort. However, it is how our spirit reaches out to God, just as we would reach a hand out to a friend. We also give our time, which is our life. Sometimes it is just a moment when something pops to mind or a prayer over a meal, but usually our prayers are longer and follow the example Christ gave.

We know these sacrifices are pleasing to God. In Revelation 5:8; 8:4 and Psalms 141:2 our prayers are described as sweet incense to God and likened to an evening sacrifice. In plain language, He enjoys hearing from us. So what we "sacrifice" comes back to us "pressed down, shaken together, and running over. (Luke 6:38)" This makes our prayer life a real joy and hardly something we would think of as a sacrifice.

---------

Revelation 5:8     And when he had taken it, the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb. Each one had a harp and they were holding golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of the saints.

Revelation 8:4     The smoke of the incense, together with the prayers of the saints, went up before God from the angel's hand.

No Way Out
From "Guideposts and The Guideposts Treasury of Faith"
By Mrs. Theo Hill

Psalm 46:1     God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.

It was a cold midwinter day in South Carolina, but I was busy--and warm--inside the house I had lived in alone for the past 15 years. I needed some wrapping paper, so I pulled down the folding stairs and started climbing to the attic. I was 81 at the time, and the moment the frigid attic air hit me, I knew I should have put on a coat. Oh well, I'd hurry.

To keep the warm air downstairs, I shut the door to the attic storage room behind me. I heard a click. I knew immediately that I was locked in. The door had no knob, I'd taken it off to replace one downstairs. And there was no one else in the house.

The cold penetrated my bones. I wrapped myself in a blanket to stop my shaking and looked out the attic window. No neighbours in sight. Anyway, the window was stuck shut from years of disuse. An hour passed ... then another. "Dear Lord, please send my children to help me." I knew this prayer was unrealistic. None of my four children was due to visit.

At my feet sat a yellowed and dusty pile of my son Billy's school papers. On top of them lay an old pencil. I picked it up, thinking of the hours it had spent in Billy's hand.

Once again I prayed for help. Immediately, as clear as any words I've ever heard, a question came to me, "What is that in thy hand?"

I looked at the pencil, my glance falling not on the leaded end, but on the metal end that had once held an eraser. It was now flattened, no doubt by my Billy's biting down as he sought to unlock a math problem.

I went to the door and inserted the end of the pencil into the keyhole. The lock turned. The door opened.

God Will Make A Way

God will make a way where there seems to be no way

He will make a way
He will make a way

To It and Thru It
~A MountainWings Original by Beth Dewey, Orlando FL~

Proverbs 3:5-6     Trust in the LORD with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; 6In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.

I am one of the survivors of hurricane Charley.

As the storm approached, I prayed that God would steer it in another direction because I live in a mobile home as do my parents. But God did not honor that request and set Charley on a path straight to us.

My father is dying of cancer and could not possibly go to a shelter so we opted to ride out the storm all together in my mobile home.

As the winds blew, I sat and prayed and wondered if God knew what He was doing? He kept firmly in my mind that if He brings me to it, He will surly bring me thru it.

The most we suffered was a blown out screen on a porch enclosure. As thousands are still without power, we never lost ours which was a TRUE blessing as my father would not have survived the heat.

My mother who was in need of a new roof on her home (but unable to afford it) was blessed (yes blessed) to have a tree come through her roof. Now insurance will provide the new roof.

The moral of this story?

When you think God does not hear let me assure you that He does

...maybe just not the way you want.

Isaiah 41:10     So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.

Isaiah 43:2     When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze.

Deuteronomy 31:8     The LORD himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.

For Saundra; Sam; Ruth; Gloria; Melody; Jeanette; Grace; Glen; Evelyn; Cindy; Chris; Bryony; Gina; Andrew; Alice; Charlene ; Phil; Karen; Valerie; Ian; Irene; Linda; Billie; Nubia & Brenda

Carol, Beth Anne, Bob & Betty, Pam

Thank You Lord that You are with us in every trial, that You will never leave us. Help each of us trust You with our whole hearts. Thank You that as we do this You will direct our paths. In the name of Jesus Christ.

Nothing Too Hard
Lee Webber

Mark 9:23     ... Everything is possible for him who believes.

John 7:37     ... If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink.

Back in the days of sailing ships, all vessels were at the mercy of the winds. Sometimes the winds were so strong that the ships were destroyed; other times, the winds were completely calm and ships were unable to move for days or even weeks. This could prove disastrous when supplies ran low, especially the supply of fresh water. It would then be, "water, water everywhere, nor any drop to drink."

One time, a ship was becalmed off the coast of South America, and unless help came soon, it was certain the crew would all die of thirst. Finally, in the distance they saw a ship and frantically signaled, "Water! Water!" To their amazement, the ship signaled back, "Let down your buckets." You see, although they couldn’t see land, they were near the mouth of the Amazon River, which pours fresh water into the ocean for hundreds of miles.

Fresh water in the ocean? Impossible. So why should the sailors have bothered to try? Because in spite of the fact there was no way it could be true, it was!

Giving the impossible a chance - isn’t that what’s called faith?

Father, You can do anything. Don’t let me rule out any possibility. Let me give the impossible a chance.

**************************************************************************

BELIEF, HOPE, AND LOVE: THE ESSENTIAL THREE

All things are possible to him who believes;
they are less difficult to him who hopes;
they are easy to him who loves;
and they are simple to anyone who does all three.

A Garment of Praise
From Patricia Erwin Nordman, Walking Through the Darkness

Isaiah 61:3     ... A garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair ...

It is fitting to wear the garment of praise; it should fit us perfectly as Christians who have been draped and graced with God's promises. Jesus paid for our garment by living and dying for us. He personally wove a sacred garment for each of us, one threaded through with:

1) Faith -- Elijah told the widow her jar of flour and jug of oil would not run out, and she believed him (1 Kings 17:14-16); Abraham believed God would provide a lamb (Genesis 22:8); Jonathan believed, "Nothing can hinder the Lord from saving..." (1 Samuel 14:6b); the three Hebrews believed, "If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God we serve is able to save us from it..." (Daniel 3:17); and Paul believed wholly, "...For I have faith in God that it will happen just as he told me." (Romans 4:20).

2) Hope -- This great gift is a brother to faith. "We are saved by trusting. And trusting means looking forward to getting something we don't yet have -- for a man who already has something doesn't need to hope and trust that he will get it." (Romans 8:24 TLB). God has promised; therefore, we can't despair, even if we don't see immediate results. Jesus weaves hope ever so carefully into our newly-clothed natures. What hope we have here: "See, I have taken away your sin, and I will put rich garments on you." (Zechariah 3:4).

3) Love -- This is the golden thread that weaves through our garment of praise. How can we despair when this cord binds us to God and to each other? It fills our hearts with chords of praise to know we are all loved equally by a just and merciful Father. How can we despair if we love a God because He first loved us?

Our spirit of despair cannot possibly weigh us down if we weigh His mercies as well as count them. He gives us heavy goods and light afflictions. Let us praise Him!

For Saundra; Sam; Ruth; Gloria; Melody; Jeanette; Grace; Glen; Evelyn; Cindy; Chris; Bryony; Gina; Andrew; Alice; Charlene ; Phil; Karen; Valerie; Ian; Irene; Linda; Billie; Nubia & Brenda

Tears

Psalm 56:8     You have collected all my tears and preserved them in your bottle! You have recorded every one of them in your book

He Cares
Cecily Benton

Priceless child,
yes I'm here.
In the dead of the night,
to conquer every fear.

Yes I see the tears escape,
but I assure you love,
pain's no mistake.

Because I love you,
I cry when you cry.
Place your tears in a jar;
stored on high.

I'll take the pain that's
hurt your heart.
Make it a blessing,
a fresh new start.

To think that our great God takes notice even of our tears and saves them as jewels! He promises that those who sow in tears shall reap in joy (Psalm 126:5). Our tears will be turned into precious gems for God. They are posted in His book of remembrance, for He does not forget our anguish. His own Son was "a man of sorrows and acquainted with grief; surely our griefs He Himself bore, and our sorrows He carried" (Isaiah 53:3,4).

The shortest and most poignant verse in the Bible is "Jesus wept" (John 11:35). Jesus took on our weaknesses that He might give us strength. "For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are..." Hebrews 4:15. Only when we are in the cellar of despair can we appreciate and appropriate this marvelous truth. Our tears are His treasure!

For Saundra; Sam; Ruth; Gloria; Melody; Jeanette; Grace; Glen; Evelyn; Cindy; Chris; Bryony; Gina; Andrew; Alice; Charlene ; Phil; Karen; Valerie; Ian; Irene; Linda; Billie; Nubia & Brenda

Carol, Beth Anne, Bob & Betty, Pam

Thank You for Your Son Jesus who feels our pain so deeply. Help each of us approach the throne of grace boldly and receive Christ's mercy. In the name of Jesus Christ.

Daniel & The Lions Den
From "Daily Encounter" by Innes.

Daniel 6:16     So the king gave the order, and they brought Daniel and threw him into the lion's den. The king said to Daniel, 'May your God, whom you serve continually, rescue you!'

No question, Daniel got a rough deal. He was set up by jealous lesser men who wanted him out of the way. It seemed like they succeeded except for one thing they overlooked: Daniel's trust in God.

The interesting thing, however, about Daniel being thrown into the den of lions is that God didn't deliver him out of the den before Daniel found deliverance in it.

Imagine if Daniel had fought against being thrown into the den (which he would have been justified in doing) and gone into the den fighting against it every inch of the way, chances are the lions would have torn him to shreds before he hit the bottom. But Daniel didn't. He accepted his lot and trusted his life to God who shut the lion's mouths.

On more than one occasion I have asked God that if I am not going to be delivered out of my "lion's den" (naming the frustrating situation I'm in), would he please deliver me in it.

Sometimes, like Daniel, God has a lesson for us to learn in our present difficult situation and before he delivers us out of it, like Daniel, we need to find deliverance in it.

Psalm 31:14-16, 24     But I trust in you, O LORD ; I say, "You are my God." 15 My times are in your hands; deliver me from my enemies and from those who pursue me. 16 Let your face shine on your servant; save me in your unfailing love. 24 Be strong and take heart, all you who hope in the LORD .

Thank You Lord that You are our rescuer. Help each of us put our trust in You, a trust like Daniel's. Show us when to fight and when to accept the circumstances we find ourselves in. Let Your face shine upon each of us - save us in Your unfailing love. In the name of Jesus Christ.

Well ever since that handicap accessible apartment opened up my stomach has been in knots.... everyone was like you should do it... blah blah well went to go look at it yesterday and was not impressed.... went back today and talked to some of the neighbors who all told me "Don't move there" God had told me from one of the proverbs ... use good judgment and power of diserment and I will not let you fall" today for the first time my stomach is not in knots while everyone was pushing me to go to this particular place my gut kept screaming "no" at me ... now that I know I shouldn't or wont.... I am at peace. I am still on some other waiting lists that have good places (this one slipped by me I thought they would be nice due to the location they were in but I was wrong) so I will patiently wait for God to open the door for me and I thank him so much that I listened to him and my "gut" rather than those around me.

Thanks for your prayers... I am sure that is what kept my "gut" screaming at me! :)

Come To The Well
by Connie Campbell Bratcher

If you have searched so many places,
Yet, your heart is empty friend,
There is a well of living water
That will fill your void within.
Jesus Christ, the pure Water of Life,
Offers an endless supply…
You may partake to your heart’s content…
His well shall never run dry.

Though this world offers many pleasures,
Not one could ever compare
With abundant life that we receive
When we meet the Master there.
Oh, come to the well my seeking friend,
Receive new life – be made whole…
Come To The Well of living water…
He will satisfy your soul.

Rev 22:17     "Come!" Whoever is thirsty, let him come; and whoever wishes, let him take the free gift of the water of life.

John 7:38     If anyone is thirsty, let him come to me. And let him drink...

Along the western shore of the Dead Sea is a beautiful and welcome mountain oasis called "En Gedi". It is here that cool water falls from high among the rocky heights of these desert foothills.

Here, David hid from Saul ... found refuge from the desert heat and experienced God's faithful presence and protection in the refreshing and life sustaining water.

The 7 Ups

  1. Wake Up !!
Decide to have a good day.
Psalms 118:24     This is the day the Lord hath made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.

  2. Dress Up !!
The best way to dress up is to put on a smile. A smile is an inexpensive way to improve your looks.
1 Samuel 16:7     The Lord does not look at the things man looks at. Man looks at outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.

  3. Shut Up!!
Say nice things and learn to listen. God gave us two ears and one mouth, so He must have meant for us to do twice as much listening as talking.
Proverbs 13:3     He who guards his lips guards his soul.

  4. Stand Up!!
    . . . . for what you believe in.
Stand for something or you will fall for anything.
Galatians 6:9-10     Let us not be weary in doing good; for at the proper time, we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good...

  5. Look Up !!
    . . . . to the Lord.
Philippians 4:13     I can do everything through Christ who strengthens me.

  6. Reach Up !!
    . . . . for something higher.
Proverbs 3:5-6     Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not unto your own understanding. In all your ways, acknowledge Him, and He will direct your path.

  7. Lift Up !!
    . . . . your Prayers.
Philippians 4:6     Do not worry about anything; instead PRAY ABOUT EVERYTHING.

Hope these "7-Ups" lift your day!

James 4:10     Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up!!

New Clothes

Colossians 3:12-13     Therefore, as God's chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. 13Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another. Forgive as the Lord forgave you.

God wants his people set apart from the world. He wants us clothed with His special clothing. These special clothes fit what the Bible calls the inner man of the heart. These powerful virtues: compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience, are not something we work up in our own power. I think it is important to realize it is His power working through us.

Most church services start with songs of praise and worship. The people are actually clothing themselves with thankfulness. Did you ever think that the words you speak were showing what kind of clothes your inner man has on?

God arrayed the lilies of the field, and he wants to clothe us with His special virtues. Will we decide to try them on?

Forgiveness is a coat that just doesn’t fit some people. They don’t want to try it on. They think their coat of bitterness is more comfortable. God wants us to have His royal clothes to wear.

It reminds me of a friend of mine that refuses to wear any new clothes. He only wears used clothing. People are always giving him their used clothes. He just loves them and figures he is saving money. God’s clothes are forever new. He has no old clothing. The great thing about them is that when we put them on we become new also.

Will we accept our position as children of God? Will we put on the clothes He wants us to wear?

Matthew 6:28-29     See how the lilies of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. 29Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these.

For Saundra; Sam; Ruth; Gloria; Melody; Jeanette; Grace; Glen; Evelyn; Cindy; Chris; Bryony; Gina; Andrew; Alice; Charlene ; Phil; Karen; Valerie; Ian; Irene; Linda; Billie; Nubia & Brenda

Carol, Beth Anne, Bob & Betty, Pam

Thank You Lord for Your care for each of us. Remind each of us of the lilies of the field - how beautifully they are clothed. Help each of us open our hearts and allow You to clothe us with Your new clothes. Thank You that as we allow You to do this we will become more like Christ. In the name of Jesus. Amen.

Seek Him

Everyone has played hide and seek at one time. If you are the one "seeking", you look behind every rock, tree, bush ... - and you don't stop until you find who you are looking for. You are totally focused on what is most important: finding the one who is hidden. Seeking God is a lot like that. You look for Him in every single thing you do. You can't wait to uncover special moments with Him. And it is so much fun to find Him that you'll want to keep seeking Him - and learning how to find Him for your whole life!

Hebrews 11:6     And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.

Thank You Lord for Your promises - that those who seek You with their whole hearts will find You and be rewarded. Show each of us how to earnestly seek You. Thank You for the joy that is ours when we find You. In the name of Jesus Christ our Lord.

Aug 8,2004 Praise:
Today the Lord blessed Paul and I with this new home. We move in on September 30th. The house is beautiful with an awesome backyard. Easy access for Paul to go to work. The basement is finished so all our living room furniture now is becoming the Family Room Furniture. Paul, Cheryl and I are going back tomorrow afternoon so we can show Cheryl but also to take some measurements as we need to build two gates for our lovely 'kids' Zeena, Zack and our new pup Marshall. Marshall is a 2 1/2 month old Golden Retriever. THIS IS ALL GOD's enablement and doing. He truly led the way and we are forever grateful.
Blessings to you all,
Linda

PS - not that it matters, we didn't pay the full asking price either. The sellers were truly awesome and we really 'blessed out'.

God's Timing
From Joni and Friends

Ecclesiastes 3:1     There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under heaven...

God can turn things around in amazing ways. Take the time the Israelites had been exiled for seventy-some years. Then, out of nowhere, the Lord stirred up Cyrus, the king of Persia, to send this scruffy bunch of exiles back to Jerusalem to rebuild their temple. Who would have dreamed it would happen that way? But the best was yet to come.

Rebuilding the temple wasn't easy. The Jewish refugees had enemies…threats were made… vandalism…the people became discouraged. Soon work on the temple ground to a halt(Ezra 4).

Imagine how frustrating that was. God had seemingly opened the door for the Jews to rebuild the temple; yet everything was against them. The Israelites encountered nothing but opposition. Why would the Lord prevent that which He wanted?

Then came the turnaround. God sent two prophets, Haggai and Zechariah, to inspire the people to begin building again. Of course, the enemies were still hanging around. Those enemies, in an attempt to demoralize the people, wrote a letter to Darius, the new king of Persia, asking him to stop, once and for all, the building of the temple. But the letter backfired. Darius found the original decree from Cyrus, and the result was stunning: Darius wrote back that the enemies were to leave the work on God's house alone, and what's more, they were to pay the full cost of rebuilding out of their tax money(Ezra 6).

Now you see why God had planned the setbacks. He did so to insure that the temple would not only be built but paid for!

Are you in the middle of some setback? Maybe God has opened a door only to slam it shut. Remember these words from an old hymn, "Judge not the Lord by what you sense, but trust Him for His grace…behind His frowning providence, He hides a smiling face."

Thank You Lord for Your perfect timing and Your grace. Help each of us to trust both Your timing and grace and believe that behind Your seeming frown is Your smile of blessing.

I found out that the two waiting lists for section 8 that I am on one is no longer giving vouchers out and the other could take 5-7 years.... right when I found this out I got a letter from a section 8 apartment they have an opening October 1st... (there are 2 different types of section 8, the voucher from the state you can live anywhere that takes it and subsidized where the apt bldg. has their own sect 8) this apt is handicap accessible for Z Anyway I don't know what to do ... right now I am paying $1000 in rent (over 1/2 my income) living off foodshelves etc. but Z is in a good school here.... I could break my lease and owe this place $10,000 but my rent would be reduced I would have more money for necessity's but Z would have to be uprooted from this school and put in a new one ... there are pro's and con's to it all.... I have been praying and praying ... afraid I will make the wrong decision.... I keep thinking of the man who God showed thunder, wind etc. too, but he didn't hear his word... Please pray in what direction I should go ... what does God want me to do ... the other night he told me (through reading the bible) use good judgment, the power of diserment and he wouldn't let me fall ... well I still don't know if I am making the right decision ... what is the "good decision"?

Hold Me Up
By Fay Angus

Psalms 119:117     Hold me up, and I shall be safe...

It was a scary night! The Santa Ana winds whistled through our California canyon, snapping branches off the oaks and bouncing them across our bedroom roof. "One huge mess to clean up in the morning," my husband John grumbled as he tried to snatch a bit of sleep in between the thumps and bumps.

The next morning I stood shivering in my dressing gown on the patio, braced against the still howling wind, and looked at the tangled, twisted rubble that filled our pool and covered our lawn. The phone rang. It was Jan, the young musician who rents the little cottage that was once my mother's, just a few blocks from where we live in the hills of Sierra Madre.

"Come quick! The big pine tree across the fence is leaning over and maybe one or two more gusts of wind will crash it down on top of my roof."

"We'll be right over," I said. "Get out of the house-now-and wait for us in your car! That tree could fall and crush the cottage."

Protect him, Lord, I prayed. And please protect our cottage.

It took us exactly four minutes to get to the cottage. Jan, John and I huddled together, feeling helpless as we watched the huge tree tipping over, perilously close to falling. "My drums are still in there," said Jan.

"Leave them. It's just too dangerous," my husband warned.

After an hour or so of waiting, Jan decided to go back in. A short time later, the huge tree fell. Jan rushed out of the cottage, and we all stopped and looked in awe. The spreading arms of the massive avocado tree that shelters the little cottage from the hot summer sun caught the falling pine and held it up, steady and firm. One side of our cottage roof was slightly cracked and dented, but Jan, his drums and the cottage were safe, held in the arms of answered prayer.

Most blessed Lord, in the stormy seasons of my life and the lives of those I love, put the strength of Your arms under and around us and keep us safe.

I am so thankful that no matter what goes on in my life that I know deep in my heart that God is right there with me. Yet, today, I feel nervous. We had put an offer in on a house on Friday and our agent was advised at that time we were the only offers. When our offer was put to the owners last night, our agent found out that they had three offers and their agent had on other offer he was putting off since last Wednesday. Another offer came in over the weekend. This is unethical and not against the law and the three agents representing possible buyers are making a formal complaint to the Real Estate Board. Our offer may have been accepted had we said we'd take it September 1st - we just can't do 'bridge financing' so we said no. Well, we are back to square one and must find a home to buy. I know God is leading me to the house, I just pray that Paul and I are in tune to God's direction. The Lord has blessed us with a wonderful Real Estate Agent - she's awesome. Please pray for the house we need to buy. It's now coming up to less than 2 months we have to be out of this house, Cheryl's baby being born and having to move. My nerves are raw still - I got so stressed out my gall bladder has begun to act up again. Paul has to go tomorrow by himself to look at the houses as I have to work. He will have to make an offer if he finds one tomorrow. Please keep all this and us in prayer.
Thanks and Blessings to you,
Linda

For Linda & Paul
Matthew 6:25-34     Thank You Lord that You have placed Your hand on this whole process of moving. Lord please reassure Linda & Paul. Show them how to rely on You & not worry. Let them take comfort in the fact that You are a God who provides and that they are more important to You than 'the birds of the air' or 'the lilies of the field'. Please let them see Your guidance clearly every step of this house search. Thank You that You have prepared a house for them, help them trust Your timing. In the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Matthew 28:20; Hebrews 13:5; Psalm 9:10     Thank You Lord that they will trust in Your name. Thank You Lord that You are with us always; You will never leave or forsake us! Open My Eyes

Three Things to Learn from Psalm 119:18
"Open my eyes, that I may behold wonderful things from Your law." This verse combines prayer and the Word, and we need to see how, so that we can combine them this way in our lives. There are three things that we learn from this verse.

  1. There are wonderful things in the Word of God. "Open my eyes, that I may behold wonderful things from Your law." The word "law" is "Torah" and means "instruction" or "teaching" in this psalm. There are wonderful things in God's teaching to us. In fact, they are so wonderful that when you really see them, they change you profoundly and empower holiness and love and missions (2 Corinthians 3:18). Which is why reading and knowing and meditating on and memorizing the Word of God is so crucial.
  2. No one can see these wonderful things for what they really are without God's supernatural help. "Open my eyes, that I may behold wonderful things from Your law." If God does not open our eyes, we will not see the wonder of the Word. We are not naturally able to see spiritual beauty. When we read the Bible without the help of God, the glory of God in the teachings and events of the Bible is like the sun shining in the face of a blind man. Not that you can't construe its surface meaning, but you can't see the wonder, the beauty, the glory of it such that it wins your heart.
  3. We must pray to God for supernatural illumination when we read the Bible. "Open my eyes, that I may behold wonderful things from Your law." Since we are helpless in ourselves to see spiritual beauty and the wonder of God in the teachings and events of the Bible without God's gracious illumination, we should ask him for it. "Open my eyes."

Open my eyes, that I may see
Glimpses of truth Thou hast for me;
Place in my hands the wonderful key
That shall unclasp and set me free. --Scott

Sheryl B. has been having health problems and she and her family need your prayers, but the urgency seems to be increasing. They still think she may have Lupus and have discovered thru many tests that about 70% of her brain is covered with leisions, causing dizziness (among other things) and she has fallen several times. They still aren't sure what is wrong, but it's serious and they are in dire need of God's intervention with a miracle healing. PRAY!! Thanks be to God for His promise that He will be there in our times of need (Hebrews 4:16). Blessings to you and yours,
Melody

For Sheryl B. & family
Matthew 6:8 , Phil 4:19, Hebrews 4:16     Thank You Lord that You know what they need before we ask. Please help them approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that they may receive mercy and find grace to help them in their time of need. Thank You that as they do this their needs will be supplied according to Your glorious riches in Christ Jesus. Please touch their lives with Your healing. In the name of Jesus Christ.
Romans 4:17     Thank You Lord that we believe that You are the God that gives life to the dead, and calls into being that which does not exist. Knowing this we ask for Your healing love to flow into Sheryl. Please restore her to that perfect state of health which is Thine alone to give, relieve any pain and discomfort that may exist. Please direct the medical staff & families as they try to help. In the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, our Healer, our Redeemer.

My husband has been dealing with job related disappointment and extreme stress for the past 4 years. We are very grateful he has a job; very grateful! He so very desperately would like to use his gifts and talents, however, the right opportunity has not been offered to him yet. It is very stressful watching the person you love, suffer. Please pray for us. Thanks so very much.
Irene

For Irene & husband
Matthew 7:7         Thank You Lord that You have promised "Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you." Please open the doors you want them to go through as they seek Your direction especially on the job situation and close the doors they are not to go through. Please make these doors clear. Please put the right people in the right place at the right time to help make this a smooth process. In the name of Jesus Christ.
Psalm 46:1-2     Thank You Lord that Irene & husband will not fear, for You are their refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Lord please let them feel Your presence, Your strength, Your Love carrying them thru. In the name of Jesus Christ.
Ezra 8:21-23; Isaiah 26:3     Lord help them both look to You, rely on You. Thank You Lord, that as they look to You, the gracious hand of our Lord Jesus Christ is upon them and their minds will be kept in perfect peace. Help keep their minds steadfast. In the name of Jesus Christ.

Attitude Toward the Word
What should the Christians attitude be towards the word of God?

Love the word ---
Psalm 119:97     Oh, how I love Your law! It is my meditation all the day.

Long for the word ---
Psalm 119:82     My eyes fail from searching Your word...

Meditate on the word ---
Joshua 1:8     ... but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.

Rejoice in the word ---
Psalm 119:162     I rejoice at Your word, as one who finds great treasure.

Share the word ---
Philippians 2:16     ... as you hold out the word of life--in order that I may boast on the day of Christ that I did not run or labor for nothing.

Hear the word ---
Romans 10:17     So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

Discern by the word ---
Psalms 1:1-3     Blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked or stand in the way of sinners or sit in the seat of mockers. 2 But his delight is in the law of the LORD, and on his law he meditates day and night. 3 He is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither. Whatever he does prospers.

Receive the word ---
Acts 11:1     Now the apostles and brethren who were in Judea heard that the Gentiles had also received the word of God.

Saturate themselves with the word ---
Colossians 3:16     Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.

Train their thinking on the word ---
Romans 12:2     And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

The Christian is to put God's word into action ---
James 1:22     But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.

Jesus is the Word!
John 1:1, 1:14     In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.
