Christ - whose glory fills the skies

Luke 1:78-79     Through the tender mercy of our God, With which the Dayspring from on high has visited us; To give light to those who sit in darkness and the shadow of death, To guide our feet into the way of peace.

2 Peter 1:19     And we have the word of the prophets made more certain, and you will do well to pay attention to it, as to a light shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts.

This phrase caught my attention "Dayspring from on High". The dayspring is the spring of the day; that is, the morning, the first light. The "Dayspring from on High" is also a symbol for Jesus Christ. Another interesting fact: the dayspring has a place on earth at any given time; it is always morning somewhere! So...

At any given time a new day could be dawning, and/or the Day Star or Morning Star could be rising in you heart!

This hymn captures these ideas perfectly.

Carry Each Other

Galatians 6:2     Carry each other's burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.

Why might this verse be true? How about this --

Ecclesiastes 4:12     Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.

When we stand together in Christ we are stronger than when we stand alone. We can help each other over the rough spots.

Ecclesiastes 4:9-10     Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their work: If one falls down, his friend can help him up. But pity the man who falls and has no one to help him up!

But this isn't the only reason to stick together in Christ. Burdens are lighter when shared. Joy can be shared as well. Joy is so much sweeter when shared with a sister or brother in Christ.

Romans 12:15     Rejoice with those who rejoice, and weep with those who weep.

Taste Bread of Life

John 6:35     I am the bread of life. He who comes to me will never go hungry, and he who believes in me will never be thirsty.

We crave food at regular intervals. It is the same with Jesus. The creator has placed within each of us a hunger that can only be satisfied by the Bread of Life. What happens once you've tasted this Bread of Life? These words give a hint of the life-changing, purifying experience that the Holy Spirit causes when committing your heart to Christ - of tasting the Bread of Life.

Broken Vessel

2 Corinthians 4:7     But this precious treasure -- this light and power that now shine within us -- is held in a perishable container, that is, in our weak bodies. Everyone can see that the glorious power within must be from God and is not our own.

While browsing through
An antique shop
I found an ancient vase
Something bright
Had caught my eye
And drew me to its case.
I hadn’t come into the store
To look for old knickknacks
And this old vase had a light
Showing through some cracks!
As I turned to walk away
A thought occurred to me
If this vessel wasn’t broken
There’d be not light to see.
Perhaps you have been broken
By trials that you’ve been through
Beloved, it is because you’re broken
God’s light can shine through you.

In the world a broken vessel has little or no value or purpose, but in the spiritual world, broken vessels have the greatest value. They are the vessels the Lord most often uses. Humble yourself in the sight of God, and He shall lift you up.

Psalm 51:17     The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart, O God, you will not despise.

Isaiah 64:8     Yet, O LORD , You are our Father. We are the clay, You are the potter; we are all the work of Your hand.

Thank You Lord, for not throwing away our broken lives, but treasuring them and redeeming them. Use our brokenness to help others. Let the light of the Lord Jesus Christ shine thru each of us.

Perspective

Psalm 95:3     For the LORD is the great God, the great King above all gods.

Moses and the people were in the desert but what was he going to do with them? They had to be fed, and feeding 2 or 3 million people requires a lot of food. According to the Quartermaster General in the Army, it is reported that Moses would have to have 1,500 tons of food each day. Do you know that to bring that much food each day two freight trains, each a mile long, would be required?

Besides, you must remember they were out in the desert, and they would have to have firewood to use in cooking the food. This would take 4,000 tons of wood and a few more freight trains, each a mile long, just for one day.

And just think, they were forty years in transit. Oh, yes, they would have to have water. If they only had enough to drink and wash a few dishes, it would take 11 million gallons each day and a freight train with tank cars 1,800 miles long just to bring water!

And then another thing, they had to get across the Red Sea in one night. If they went on a narrow path, double file, the line would be 800 miles long and would require 35 days and nights to get through. So, there had to be a space in the Red Sea three miles wide so that they could walk 5,000 abreast to get over in one night.

But then another problem: each time they camped at the end of the day, a campground two-thirds the size of the state of Rhode Island was required, or a total of 750 square miles long. Think if it! This space just for nightly camping.

Do you think Moses figured all those out before he left Egypt? I think not! You see, Moses believed in God. God took care of these things for him.

Now do you think God has any problem taking care of all your needs?

Playing games is what we do. We've been at it since we were kids. Oh as we got older we would not "say" we were playing games... but we still do. The other day, my wife pointed out to me that God likes us to play games. Actually one game in particular seems to be His favorite. He loves looking down on us and seeing us faithfully engaged in a life long game of follow the leader. Problem is, for too many of us, hide-n-seek is our game of choice.

Love Covers

Lifted Up

Psalm 37:7     Be still before the LORD and wait patiently for Him;

Psalm 40:1-3     I waited patiently for the LORD ; He turned to me and heard my cry. He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire; He set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand. He put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see and fear and put their trust in the LORD .

How do you handle dark moments? Times when you want to give up and give in to despair, times when you are weighed down with worry and care?

My first impulse is to cry out in frustration or complain or take some kind of action. Yet, look at these verses, they seem to say to cry out to the Lord and then wait in silence for Him to come to you. Sometimes that is very hard to do, sit in silence, when you want to scream or cry out in frustration. Sit in silence when you feel desperate. Sit in silence and wait. Wait for what?

Wait...

for the Lord to come and lift you up - out of your darkness and place your feet on the Rock. After your feet are firmly on the Rock - the Lord then gives you a 'new song' and turns your darkness into His praise.

In the process you become more Christ-like...

more than you can be on your own.

Low Flame?

Isaiah 42:3     A bruised reed He will not break, and a smoldering wick He will not snuff out.

A BRUISED REED HE WILL NOT BREAK...that's the kind of person who is just hanging on for dear life by the narrowest of threads. Nothing is more fragile than a bruised reed. Jesus grabs hold and makes the ones weak in faith stronger.

A SMOLDERING WICK HE WILL NOT SNUFF OUT...the smouldering wick is the candle that has just gone out. It won't take much to relight the flame and it won't take much to snuff it out entirely. Nothing is more tenuous than a smoldering wick. Jesus keeps the spiritual fires burning within, He renews hope where there appears to be none.

Is your flame burning low today? Turn to Jesus, ask for that breath of life - to rekindle the flame - to fan it and make it burn bright.

2 Timothy 1:6     For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God...

The Peace of the Lord

Romans 16:20     The God of peace will soon crush Satan under your feet. The grace of our Lord Jesus be with you.

John 14:27     Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.

Isaiah 26:3-4     You will keep in perfect peace him whose mind is steadfast, because he trusts in you. Trust in the LORD forever, for the LORD , the LORD , is the Rock eternal.

Philippians 4:6-7     Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Romans 5:1-2     Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we rejoice in the hope of the glory of God.

Colossians 3:15     Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful.

Psalm 33:20-22     We wait in hope for the LORD ; He is our help and our shield. In Him our hearts rejoice, for we trust in His holy name. May Your unfailing love rest upon us, O LORD , even as we put our hope in You.

Praise: Well, God did it! I found out today that I can have my old house rental again! I go in and sign papers this Wednesday, and move in on June 1st!!!!! GOD! I am SO RELIEVED!!!!!

God's Peace

Have you ever thought about God's peace being a spiritual weapon? I didn't until I looked at the 2 articles in the above links. What do you value the most when faced with a trial, test or spiritual battle? I'm finding I value God's peace - inspite of any circumstance. It's no coincidence that peace is an important characteristic of the 'Good Shepherd'. God's peace allows you to find rest for your soul no matter what you may be facing. When we maintain peace during trials, tests or spiritual battles it is a crushing blow to fear, anxiety or turmoil. Our victory doesn't come from within us, from our emotions or intellect. Our victory comes from the Lord Jesus Christ and His peace - the peace that passes all understanding. This peace is actually a powerful spiritual weapon and witness.

Deep Water

Psalm 61:1-4     Hear my cry, O God; listen to my prayer. From the ends of the earth I call to you, I call as my heart grows faint; lead me to the rock that is higher than I. For you have been my refuge, a strong tower against the foe. I long to dwell in your tent forever and take refuge in the shelter of your wings.

Psalm 27:5     For in the day of trouble He will keep me safe in His dwelling; He will hide me in the shelter of His tabernacle and set me high upon a rock.

I found this ad pretty funny. It was an SUV going thru deep water -- looking like it would be swallowed up -- yet it makes it thru. There was a small disclaimer though -- "Traversing deep water can cause damage, which voids the vehicles warranty."

Have you ever felt like you were in deep water? Threatened to be swallowed up? Look at these Psalms! Unlike the SUV warranty - our warranty in the Lord Jesus Christ never fails. The Lord promises refuge and a firm place to stand 'in deep water' -- all we must do is call on His name {strong tower} and follow His lead! We will be led to the rock that is higher than us.
