Interesting e mail from MSNBC in reply to e mail I sent to Brian Williams when he subbed for Brokaw on NBC Nightly News.

Dear Mr. Bozeman,

Brian Williams read your email and wanted to respond to it.  His letter to
you is below.

Melissa Ludlum
Assistant to Mr. Williams

Dear Mr. Bozeman,

I've read your email, and wanted to thank you for writing.  It was obviously
an audio error by us and I'm told (at least I HOPE) it's been corrected.
I'm attaching below the Associated Press version of the story, which is
pretty much the way it happened.  What you heard was my attempt to squelch
what I thought was a disrespectful joke made by a stagehand.

Chiefly, I wanted to thank you for writing AND for watching NBC Nightly
News, where I hope you'll join us again tonight.

Sincerely,

Brian Williams

Technical flub embarrasses NBC

NEW YORK (AP) -- Even veteran broadcasters can get tripped up by
an unexpected live microphone, as NBC News anchor Brian Williams
found to his embarrassment Wednesday.

Williams, subbing for Tom Brokaw on "NBC Nightly News," was
heard admonishing a stagehand for making jokes regarding
singer-actress Dale Evans, who died at age 88 on Wednesday.

The remarks were heard near the end of the news, after Williams
had read an obituary for Evans. NBC cut to a Total cereal
commercial, but Williams' voice could clearly be heard making a
reference to Trigger, the horse ridden by Evans' husband, Roy
Rogers.

"Let them bury the poor woman," Williams said. "They're
making Trigger jokes out here."

   No joke was audible.

NBC News spokeswoman Alex Constantinople called it "an
unfortunate technical error." It was edited out of the taped
broadcast in Washington, D.C. and the West Coast, she said.

"We don't plan on mentioning it on the air again," she said.
