About Gil Grissom

William Petersen plays Gil Grissom, the level 3, head CSI investigator. He's a tough boss, and a great scientist. He specializes in forensic entomology which is the study of insects found on or near a crime scene in order to find clues to help solve a case. Gil can find evidence within their bodies, outside of their bodies, plus any number of other ways related directly or indirectly to the insect (such as waste products from the insect, etc.) Gil is a shy, quiet guy for the most part, spending most of his time on his passion for science. When he's not working, and even when he is, he can be found trying to solve a crossword puzzle...the guy has a fondness for the things, it's clear. He's a perfect leader for the CSI team (many times even giving advice on personal matters), and all of the other members respect him a great deal. He's probably the biggest reason the team is as close as it is, most of the time as close as family members.

William Petersen is a well known actor who has been in the business for around 20 years or so. According to the Internet Movie Databse his first movie was THIEF from 1981, and he has done numerous other movies and series since then. He has also done a lot of stage work, keeping busy in his craft. In an interview with the associated press, he said he is a lot like his character in CSI, he's pretty boring. "When I'm in my house, I'm on the couch watching ESPN -- at best having a sandwich. I don't go out. I do nothing. I'm exhausted all the time because the work is everything." Petersen said. This shows that Petersen is not only good at what he does...he also loves what he does and he puts everything into his roles. I think it shows in the case of CSI, because he has the role down perfectly if you ask me. Petersen was recently in the horror movie, The Skulls, with Joshua Jackson, and he just starred in the movie, Haven, that aired a couple of weeks ago on CBS.
