| Down with reruns, up with new shows.
Thanks to original episodes of "CSI: Crime Scene
Investigation," "Everybody Loves Raymond"
and "Survivor: Africa," CBS extended its
Nielsen ratings winning streak in total viewers for the
seventh consecutive time during the slow pre-Christmas
week ending Dec. 23, when reruns usually reign. Boosted
by a double dose of football Monday and Saturday and
strong showings from such tried-and-true shows as "America's
Funniest Videos," "Classic TV Bloopers"
and "NYPD Blue," ABC also posted its first
weekly win in the key demographic group of adults 18-49
this season. CBS averaged 11.9 million viewers for the
week, followed by ABC (10.6 million), NBC (8.7 million)
and Fox (6.6 million). Among the smaller networks, UPN
prevailed in viewers (3.9 million vs. 3.5 million for the
WB Network). Also worth noting: Mariah Carey's CBS
special, "A Home for the Holidays," finished a
dismal 75th in the ratings, another blow in an already
bad year for the singer. The Top 10 for the week of Dec.
17-23 is as follows: 1. "CSI: Crime Scene
Investigation," CBS, 15.0, 15.8 million homes |
