CBS is taking advantage of the smash-hit status of its second-year series CSI:
Crime Scene Investigation by preparing a spin-off episode of the show
that is
expected to air later this season, Variety reports. If it's successful,
the
spin-off could be developed into a full series next fall.

The special episode will have the Las Vegas-based CSI team, led by Gil
Grissom
(William Petersen), traveling to another city to solve a case. Once
there, they
will meet up with some of the characters who would potentially be
featured in a spin-off series, according to Variety.

It's unlikely any of the CSI regulars would appear on a spin-off, Variety
reports. CSI, which airs Thursdays at 9 p.m. ET, has become one of CBS's
highest-rated dramas.
