CBS's Ratings Are a 'Crime'

CBS managed to
break NBC's month-long winning streak in the ratings
race, with several CBS series registering as the most-watched
episodes of last week. Two CBS Tuesday dramas -- "Judging
Amy" (with 17.6 million viewers) and the brand new
"The Guardian" (16 million) -- reached series
highs in total viewers, as did the network's highest-rated
drama, the 2-year-old "CSI: Crime Investigation"
on Thursday (24.7 million). CBS's third Tuesday drama,
"JAG" (17.9 million viewers), scored its second-largest
audience ever. As for CBS's "Survivor: Africa"
(20.4 million), the numbers actually leveled off after
slipping during its second outing the previous week but
was trumped for a second straight week by NBC's "Friends"
(25.6 million) in the 8-8:30 p.m. slot. ABC's new 8-9 p.m.
Wednesday comedy block, "My Wife and Kids" and
"According to Jim," continues to grow, with
both sitcoms logging series highs in total viewers and in
the 18-49 age group. According to data from Nielsen Media
Research, the Top 10 for the week of Oct. 22-28:
