CBS Trying to Make Race a Success
Although it was hailed by many critics as the next big thing in reality television, Jerry Bruckheimer's "The Amazing Race" has brought in steady, but not stellar, ratings for CBS.
The network is hoping to give the stylish race around the world a boost by airing its finale on Thursday, Dec. 13 at 9 p.m. ET following an original episode of "Survivor: Africa" rather than in its usual timeslot the night before. As an added bonus, CBS' hit drama "CSI" will be pushed to 10 p.m., going head-to-head with NBC's juggernaut "ER" in what is sure to be a closely watched ratings showdown.
Many feel that "Race" didn't take off like predicted due to its premiere right before the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11 which left many TV viewers distracted during the first few weeks crucial for building an audience and fan base. However, CBS is giving the series a second chance -- it has already ordered a second season from Touchstone/CBS Prods. that will air in either the spring or summer of 2002.
