My Idea for "Complete" Air Safety

(Sept 12- 4:00 A.M. CT.)Okay. The problem seems simple
to me. I'm not aviation expert, so I don't know the logistics
involved here. No matter...this is my idea. Hijacking an aircraft
should be impossible. There should be an emergency system in
place for such an "attack" inside an aircraft. Anytime
hijackers attempt to take over a plane, anyone in the cockpit (from
the pilot to the co-pilot, to any navigator present) should be
able to engage an new emergency system that will only be used in
the situation of a hijacking. The system would automatically
engage autopilot that is set to fly the plane to a predetermined
destination. For example: if a plane takes off from New York
heading to Los Angeles, and it is hijacked- the emergency system
would have a number of possible "auto" destinations
between the two cities...destinations that are in smaller areas,
as far away from large metropolitan areas as possible. After the
system is engaged by the pilot or other crew member, the plane's
course cannot be changed by anyone on board, only by the FAA. The
FAA is immediately alerted as well as the FBI, NTSB, and any
other agency that should be involved. The system would have to be
located in an area on the plane where no one could turn it off,
this makes it impossible for any terrorists onboard to override
the system. If the crew cannot engage the system, for whatever
reason, the FAA will be able to do so after they confirm that the
aircraft has been hijacked. The new system will guide the plane
to the closest predetermined destination- then, nearing landing,
either a crew member would have to land the plane, or a system
would have to be out in place to land the plane automatically. I
believe with the technology we have available today, we can make
such a landing possible. If worse comes to worse, after that
emergency system is engaged- and if something goes awry, and the
plane cannot be landed safely- itwill self destruct over a
sparesly populated area. I would surely hope it wouldn't come to
this, and the system would land the plane safely, but sometimes-
sacrificing the lives of a plane full of people is better than
having such a plane crash into a skyscrper or any other large
building as it did Tuesday, killing tens of thousands of people.
I'm sure most of you would agree with that. I also recommend that
we put air marshalls back onto airliners, EVERY airliner. In such
an event, the emergency system might not have to be engaged at
all, and it would bring a safe end to a tragic situation onboard.
Along with this, tighter security at every airport in the nation,
as well as extensive background checks on every airline/airport
personnel on the planes and off. With such a system in place, I
believe it would be next to impossible for a tragedy such as the
one that happened in NYC and DC to ever happen again, and I'm not
sure why someone hasn't already put the system into place. As I
said, I'm not expert, but I believe such a system would be a real
possibility that would work to saves tens of thousands of lives.
