If you're a person who really relies on long and painful combos, stop using Jenet and pick someone like Terry or Gatou. 2. All Japanese, Chinese and Korean people listed here will follow the eastern format. That is, last name first and first name after, as in "Takahashi Rumiko-sama" and I'll try to keep my romanization stable. 3. Remember to have proper etiquette before you contact me. Otherwise, I won't bother with you. Oh and no leet, okay? Putting leet in your e- mail or conversation will make me think that you have low self-esteem. 4. I have done some works for other sites, but I don't want to list them, since that would be too much of a hassle for me. 5. I am not fluent in Japanese, but I can speak the language a bit. 6. All matters used from other guides are left as they were and yes, I asked the authors in advance. This was done so that I don't get killed later on. That is why you have cases like the two spellings of Gatou's name: "Gato", the semi-casual way or the way many people out west spell it, and "Gatou", the more traditional way of spelling it and the way not many people out west spell it. --' 7. If you have not obtained the game yet, do so now. I gave a good score on the game. 8. Spoilers have been listed here. 9. This guide is best viewed with Word. Okay. That's it. This is a Bonne Jenet/B. Jenet guide. What will make this guide different is that it will be longer and it will be better detailed. If you're wondering, this is my second "Mark of the Wolves" guide. (My first one is a guide of the kawaii Hotaru.) She has moves that are similar to other SNK fighters. You'll see what I mean in the move list. To be honest, I am okay with Jenet. Is she a decent fighter? I guess. Is she a beginner-friendly fighter? Sort of. Is she a fighter that can you can totally feel comfortable with against say, a Terry player? No. I will tell you why as I go along. Oh yeah. Jenet's turns 16 today. Otanjoubi omedetou Jenet. --- Version History --- This is 3.1. 3.2 - 1/23/05 I placed in the random notes of Jenet and I knew I did some other tasks, but I forgot them. 3.1 - 1/4/05 I edited the basics and the translations as well as some other matters. 3.0 - 1/1/05 I lied about not making anymore guides for "Garou Densetsu's" latest game. So, I took that statement out. Format changes, spelling corrections, some character tactics, I have done a lot here. 2.2 - 8/19/04 Another site is hosting this guide and I did some heavy editing as well. 2.1 - 8/11/04 Don't worry. I only did minor edits. 2.0 - 6/26/04 Editing, adding new material, I did the usual. 1.2 - 7/19 Scouting report changes were made as well as some other random stuff. 1.1 - 7/3 Legal statement changes. That's pretty much it. 1.0 - 7/2/03 I have just started on this guide and I placed whatever is at the top of my mind. --- Ni (Two). Birthday: January 23, 1989. Blood type: AB. Nationality: British. Fighting style: LK Arts (with various arts involved here). Hobbies: nail art and invading territorial waters. Specialty: her "internal clock" is never off by more than one minute. Most important things: her "Lilien Knights" companions, and the newest weapons of the "Lilien Knights". Most unpleasant thing: mornings. Likes: the silence and stillness of 1000 meters deep in the sea. Dislikes: diesel ships (because they stink). Favorite food: sirlion steak (and she saves them valuably in the galley). Favorite music: Eurobeat (which is like techno). Best sports: tennis and equestrian (horseback riding). --- All About B. Jenet --- The era of pirates has been long gone since the days of galleons and treasure pillaging. But even in the times where technology and advanced machinery rules all, the concept of modern pirates still lives on, manifesting itself in a small group of lively seabound criminals: the "Lilien Knights", who roam the seven seas via a well-built (and technologically advanced) submarine. This bunch of jolly men, ironically enough, has a female leader: her name, Bonne Jenet. Not only is Bonne Jenet's beauty stunning and even mesmerizing, her leadership qualities and cunning fighting abilities allow her to be a respected and feared woman among famous criminal circles. Unlike the pirates of yore, Jenet and her "Lilien Knights" are not cold-blooded murderers: they just long for precious treasure that might raise their booty! Typically, every time the "Lilien Knights" appear, it usually means two things: they want lots of easy money, and a nice fight to go with that! Jenet's moves are not just quick and even blurry at times, she also makes sure she doesn't lose her feminine touch during her missions. This secret touch has made Jenet a very dear leader for the merry group of "Lilien Knights". Now, they currently target a small city called Second Southtown, in the United States, where the "Lilien Knights" now appear. When they surface, and begin to gather information about any possible treasure, the name of the "King of Fighters Maximum Mayhem" tournament quickly arises. Jenet not only finds this opportunity attractive to catch a good brawl or two, but also plans to pillage any valuable possession on her way to the top! As Jenet sets on her fighting spree, she commands her "Lilien Knights" to scavenge the city for possible treasure locations might be. They soon arrive with news that there is a man who could easily pass as the king of town, the new crime lord in town, Kain R. Heinlein. Jenet quickly makes loose ends meet: Kain is no other than the host of the "King of Fighters Maximum Mayhem" tournament! She quickly sets her followers to gather anything that had any vague feature of being valuable, and so, the "Lilien Knights" set for Kain's mansion. During the final stages of the tournament, Jenet awaits news from her investigation squad sent to storm Kain's mansion in search for any possible treasure. To her surprise, she witnesses the downfall of Kain's mansion! She hopes her comrades are still alive, which is thankfully proven when they quickly come report to Jenet about the events. It seems that they were about to accomplish their mission, when they saw a young man dressed in a red jacket suddenly go up against Kain himself! They were afraid that they would be caught, and almost escaped with their lives as the incredible fight that ensued arose in intensity. Jenet then realized that her Knights had not managed to obtain anything from that fine mansion! Jenet chases off her "Lilien Knights" for quite some time, and several days had to pass before she could quench her anger, but only to find herself setting sail once again, in search of the perfect loot! A very proud and jolly woman, and a good-natured pirate at heart, Jenet acts as a kind leader to her "Lilien Knights", whom she has hanged with since she was a little girl. They all like to drink booze together, and Jenet looks over any action they take to supervise any possible event. Even though she is gentle and kind most of the time, she can become quite a storm whenever she gets angry! Appearances: Garou: Mark of the Wolves --- Random Side Notes About Jenet --- These are just some random notes from me. You have the translation of her name and such. That's all. Win mark: skull. Seiyuu: Saitou Rei-san. In the guide Chupiler and I authored, "B" in Jenet means "good" not "beautiful," and it's her last name. (I think she uses her last name first just as a pun.) In that same guide, Chupiler mentioned that his friend pointed out some very strange coincidences. Bonne Jenet is a play on Jean Bonet of that baffling murder case. The pronunciation is very, very similar, just with the front letter switched around. Jenet is blonde. Plus, he believes that Jean Benet, 10 years from now (which Garou takes place) would be more or less 19. Maybe it's just coincidence, but that's kind of eerie. --- Yon (Four). Getting Started on the Game --- I will give some of the basics on the game first. If you want a real big guide with items like every fundamental and everyone's move lists, check out the guide of JKuroki and me or Orochi K's. Okay? As I said earlier, Jenet carries moves similar to various SNK characters. Does that mean you'll be comfortable playing as her early on? No. She takes time to get used to, but with some practice, you'll have no problems playing as her. I'll go over the basics of the game first. Feint moves: feint moves have been in the series for a long time. A feint move is the opening animation of a special move. Each character is assigned two here. One of the two main purposes a feint move fulfills is that you are able to perform certain impossible combos. The other purpose is that you can fake your opponent out. You can make your opponent think that you'll throw a Repuken if you're Rock for example and as your opponent lands on the jump or comes close to landing, you can use a Shine Knuckle to nail him or her. Just Defend: the newest element of the "Garou Densetsu" series, this is SNK's equivalent of the Japanese blocking system (or parry for some of you) in the "Street Fighter III" series. (If you're wondering, I'm not that good at parrying in general, but I'm decent at Just Defending.) Unlike that block, you block the attack at the last second. Yeah, the motion is to go back, making the motion feel more natural. You also gain some life and power for your power bar. You can tell you have Just Defended an attack when a blue aura appears in front of you. Also, below your health bar seen at the top, it will say, "Just Defended". With the Just Defend, you can accomplish what is called a Guard Cancel by performing an attack after doing the Just Defend. Doing a Just Defend won't lead to a guard crush. Spiffy, huh? (You'd figure that they came up with a better sounding name for this tactic. Hee hee!) Oh! I forgot. Remember Break Shots? These are now your Break Shots. Thankfully, you don't use up any power in your power bar. They don't become twice as strong though. Tactical Offensive Position: Another new element of the series, after you selected your character, you are dealt with something called Tactical Offensive Position mode. You decide on where to place your Tactical Offensive Position: the top third, the middle third or the bottom third. Got that? During Tactical Offensive Position mode or T.O.P. mode for short, you start glowing. Your life gradually increases. Your power also increases by 25%. Finally, you are able to perform a T.O.P. move by pressing C and D together. Note that the T.O.P. move does not act like a special move, in which you cannot gain power if this move does not connect. This is all of course if you don't fiddle with the system. If you fiddle with the system however, it can produce different results, like a 50% power increase, but a shorter T.O.P. bar. Brake moves: The final new element, brake moves involve stopping some special moves before they stop by themselves and following with another attack if you want. (No, that's not a typing error there. It is spelled "brake" as in slowing down.) Press A and B at the same time during the move and as you do so, your character will stop the motion, recovering faster. If you pull your brake move and it's blocked, you can stop it and you will recover faster. This will make it harder for the opponent to hit you, as you'll be able to block his or her attack. Thus, you won't be so easily punished. Of course, you need to remember that only a couple of moves are brakable for each character at most. Another advantage is that if that move connects, you can brake and follow with another move. You can even pull off special moves or even P. Potentials. Braking gives way to more damaging combos involving more moves. As you can see, you'll need to be able to brake quickly to take advantage of it and add more hits or simply to recover faster if your attack is blocked. Now that I told you about the basics, I might as well give you tips on Jenet and the game overall. Tips on the game overall: 1. Braking is important. I already said that you'd recover faster if you brake during a move. 2. How important is Just Defend? It depends on how you view it. To me, it's an element you should try to use often, but not totally rely on because there will be times when your timing is off. So, think about what I said here. 3. Know your character's strengths and weaknesses. 4. Make sure that you have some kind of rhythm going. This means doing tasks like you have to pick a certain key character and you have to place your T.O.P. mode in a certain position. I usually place my T.O.P. mode at the bottom third and I know that if I can't handle a certain character, I don't bother with him or her. 5. Unlike the grading system in "Street Fighter III: Third Strike", when fighting against the computer, time counts, not balancing offense and defense (thankfully). So beat your opponent as fast as you can. (Why did Capcom include one in that version of "Street Fighter III" and not in the first two? I don't know.) To face Kain, the final boss, you must average an AAA average by the time you beat Grant, the semi-boss. (It's not hard to do usually.) 6. Have fun overall. I know I hate losing and I love to win, but I should always remember that it is best to have fun. Besides, you can pick up a pointer or two if you do lose. Tips on Jenet: 1. Where should you place your T.O.P. mode when you pick Jenet? As I said earlier, usually, when I play this game, I place it at the bottom third. Jenet is no exception. Now, why do I recommend you placing your T.O.P. mode at the bottom third? A. If you place your T.O.P. mode in the top or middle third and you lose it, you will have to work harder for your victory. Remember this aspect: Jenet is not a powerhouse like Terry and if you lose your T.O.P. mode quickly, it will be harder for you to play catch up in the long run. B. Being in T.O.P. mode is something you should not rely on. If you rely on reaching the T.O.P. mode and you lose it early on, you'll panic. You may not panic on the outside, but your mind is thinking that you're in trouble. Being in T.O.P. mode is something you should keep in the back of your mind, so that you don't let it mess up your rhythm. C. If you have known your SNK for a long time, you should know that if you're low on life, your power increases and more opportunities are open for you. Place your T.O.P. mode at the bottom third and you'll keep the same tradition going. This may be a factor when you have your matches. There's a catch however if you do place your bar in the lower third. You have to work harder for your grade. Keep what I have said in mind. 2. Read my scouting report, the next chapter. A lot will be said there. --- Go (Five). The Scouting Report of B. Jenet and Her Moves --- I am going to tell you the basics of Jenet. Iku ze! --- The Scouting Report --- Strengths: + Jenet's projectile is annoying to try to reflect or Just Defend and it is pretty useful if used correctly. + She beats out Hotaru in terms of stamina, reach and power as well as normal attacks. + Our heroine can be a tricky character to defend against. + Her T.O.P. attack will make you safe to a good extent. + She's one of the few characters with a hidden move. + She's a good character for familiarity. Weaknesses: - Her hidden move is too hard to execute. - She's hard to win with late in the game. - For the most part, you have to be up close to be effective. - She can only dash, not run. - She can't beat Hotaru in terms of speed and her speed overall is average at best. - Her normal attacks are not great. - Jenet does not have a lot of power. - Her stamina is worse than majority of the cast. - You need timing and luck on your side if you want to counter the air. - Her reach is short overall. - A good amount of her moves will make you a sitting duck if you're not careful. Overall: With too many weaknesses, Jenet is one of the weaker fighters here, though she's fun to play as. --- Legend --- I will be using the arcade layout. *** Joystick Layout *** ub u uf b n f db d df Jump backward, Jump Up, Jump Forward (up-back), (up), (up-forward) Walk Back / Block, Neutral, Walk Forward (back), (neutral), (forward) Crouch block, Crouch, Crouch (down-back), (down), (down forward) qcf - quarter circle forward (d, df, f when on the left side) qcb - quarter circle backward (d, db, b when on the left side) hcf - half circle forward (b, db, d, df, f when on the left side) *** Button Layout *** A B C D Weak Punch, Weak Kick, Strong Punch, Strong Kick --- Moves --- Now, here's the move list of Jenet. Please note that in her hidden cases, the translation of the move have a different kind of flair from me and as a result, I have sacrificed sincerity for style. There's no doubt Japanese is one hard language to translate. It's not easy. -_-' *** Normal moves *** They'll be here soon. *** Throws *** 1. Bye-Bye Boo - when close, f or b + C. All she does here is a slap and she kicks the opponent back. Nothing more. 2. Falling Crush - in the air up close, anything but u + C. Jenet's air throw, it looks like Rugal's Dead End Screamer, as she spins on them with her high heels, and then jumps back blowing a kiss. You switch sides after the throw by the way. *** Command Move *** Super Jump - d, then quickly jump (ub, u, or uf). Jenet's one of only two characters that can perform a higher jump. (The other character is Dong Hwan.) You can tell that you did it by seeing a shadow following her. *** Special Moves *** 1. Buffrass - qcf + A or C. This is Jenet's projectile, if I should be saying that, and I'll mention why I say this in a bit. To an extent, it looks like a copy of "KoF 99's" Krizalid's Torelvin (or his wind attack). Anyway, here, weak stays in place, while strong goes across the screen. Unless you can just defend well, you should just jump over the so called projectile. As for that first statement, this is the only projectile that can't be reflected. (If I have to make a guess why this is the case, Jenet uses some the breeze to create her projectile and she doesn't use spritual energy to create a projectile. Also, I have to factor the fact that Hotaru's Ko Bi Kyaku can recognize spirital projectiles, not those that use some other element like the wind here.) Weak and Strong - 3 hits. 2. The Hind - qcf + B or D. This is Jenet's move you can brake with. Here, she hops forward with her knee and she spins upward. Weak has a shorter hop, while strong gives you more hits and adding on, weak is the better version for combos as strong gives you shorter a shorter recovery period in braking. Of all of her special moves, this is the best move I can think of in terms of her having a special move as an anti-air attack, but even then, as an anti-air, it's so poor that it's even poorer than Freeman's. At least it's a decent aggresive move. Weak - 2 hits. Strong - 6 hits. 3. Crazy Ivan - qcb + A or C. Simply like Mai's Ryuu en Bu, Jenet spins around and her dress's blades hit the opponent. Weak comes out quickly, while strong comes out a bit slower and makes her move forward, though it is more powerful. Weak can be used in combos. Oh and by the way, "Simply like Mai's Ryuu en Bu" is pushing it. It's more like a poor man's or in this case, woman's Ryuu en Bu because this move gives Jenet no protection at all. Weak and Strong - 1 hit. 4. Gulf Tomahawk - qcb + B or D. Think of Ter's Crack Shot and you pretty much got it. Jenet jumps up and comes down with her heel and dress. Like the Crack Shot, it's an overhead attack. As for degree differences, other than height and distance, that's it. You can use this as an anti- air attack, but even then, the Crack Shot is more reliable. Though you can still hit your opponent, if the move is blocked, if you whiff, you're in trouble. Weak and Strong - 1 hit 5. Harrier Bee - In the air, d + B, B, B, B, B or D, D, D, D, D. A move very similar to the Mayday! Mayday! from Alfred, Jenet flies down, charging in on the opponent and attacks with her legs. On the final hit, she kicks up while popping up. With this in mind, you can avoid matters on the ground. Weak goes more down at a sharper angle and strong goes more forward. Use this a lot unless your opponent has hampered your air game. Weak and Strong - 4 hits (if done all the way). *** Super Power Moves *** A stock is required. 1. Many Many Torpedoes (S) - qcf, qcf + A (with S power). The reason why this move is called "Many Many Torpedoes" is because Jenet jumps forward, spins and kicks, giving the illusion of many (many) torpedoes. You can use this attack for ground combos. Adding on, it has nice block damage and you can't be hit until you launch the attack. In the guide of Jkuroki and me, if a person tries to block after the flash, the person will still get hit. As for drawbacks, the price you have to pay for the high block damage is that unless you react quickly, which won't happen a lot, the counter attack from your opponent will be launched right away. Don't get me started on what happens if you miss. (Ah, what Engrish can do for you. Ha ha ha!) Super - 8 hits. 2. Aurora (S) - qcf, qcf + B (with S power). Jenet turns around and spins up like the end of The Hind for a total of three times. In the end, she finishes with a blown kiss. If timed correctly, this is a decent anti-air super move. If timed poorly, pray that you have enough health to stand the next attack from your opponent. Super - 11 hits. *** Potential Power Moves *** 2 stocks, the maximum, are required. 1. Many Many Torpedoes (P) - qcf, qcf + C (with P power) There's not much to say here. It's pretty much like its weaker version in terms of capabilities, but this one is more powerful. See the weaker version's section if you need a reminder on its ups and downs. Potential - 14 hits 2. Aurora (P) - qcf, qcf + D (with P power) Five spins instead of three will be done here and there's of course the kiss at the end. It's just like the weaker version for the most part. Again, see the weaker version's section if you need a reminder on its ups and downs. Potential - 16 hits 3. An Oi Mademoiselle / An, Hey Mademoiselle - during a just defend, A, B and C (quickly). One of the few hidden moves, unlike the rest of them, this is done after a just defend; thus, this is a counter move. Here, Jenet loses her cool, takes off one of her high heels and starts hitting the opponent relentlessly with it. At the end of the attack rundown, she swings up. After the hit parade, she becomes embarassed and says "Gomen asobase!" (I beg my pardon!) This is one the hardest moves to execute, though the timing is like sliding your hand across quickly. (From experience, I have done this move no more than four or five times.) If done to counter a ground attack, the move does 60% damage at least and if done to counter an air attack, the move does 40% damage or right around there, along with the ability to juggle the opponent in the air. (Intially, I thought the move's name was in French, but it's Japanese.) Potential - 16 hits *** Tactical Offensive Position Move *** Rolling Thunder - during T. O. P. mode, CD. Jenet flips up and if the first kick connects, she dives forward. (The pose on the second hit is from her jump D attack.) Nothing happens if the move misses or becomes blocked. At the end of the attack, the opponent lies on the ground. In some cases, it works like an anti-air. In terms of benefits, there's not much to say. You can use this in combos if you're lucky and she's fairly safe if the move is blocked. As for flaws, the range is so short and you can be knocked out of the air easily. Though it works like an anti-air, you need to have the ability to time it correctly as well as a little bit of luck. It's only a move I'd surprise my opponent with, but it's definitely not a move I'd have to pull off constantly to win a battle. T.O.P. - 2 hits *** Feint Moves *** 1. Many Many Torpedoes - f + AC. Jenet just fakes out her use of the charging power move. 2. Aurora - d + AC. Jenet just fakes out her use of the anti-air power move. --- Roku (Six). Other Topics to Cover --- Here, I will go over various topics like her win quotes, her colors and so forth. --- Combos --- This will be fixed soon. *** Chain and Brake Combos *** This will be fixed soon. --- Character Strategies --- I will list ways on how to beat the other characters of the game from both perspectives: computer and human competition. They're not the best tactics overall, but at least they can get the job done. If you want to contribute, I would be very happy if you do so and I will give you credit towards the end. Keep in mind that I will finish this up later. Bonne Jenet - Computer: Well, there will be times in which Jenet will be your computer opponent. So, I might as well start off with her here. I will divide this section into two different parts shortly: a Jenet mirror match and a regular Jenet match. I wish I can say a point about Jenet's artificial intelligence. She will use her moves once in a while and she doesn't pose much of a challenge. She can beat Hotaru up close, but that's it. For a Jenet mirror match, you shouldn't worry much. If you use her Hind, poke after. Other than that, be aggresive. If you use someone else other than Jenet, again, be aggresive. Take advantage of your projectile if you have one. That's about it. Bonne Jenet - Human: Again, I will divide this section into two different parts. If you use someone else other than Jenet, use the air a lot if you can because Jenet can't counter the air that well. Find a way to counter the Harrier Bee early on, so that you can limit your opponent to the ground. Not only will you limit the use of the Harrier Bee, but you'll also limit the use of her super jump. Keep an eye on your opponent. If he or she backs off, the chances of a Buffrass are high, and that's the time to take advantage of it. If he or she is up close, don't make a mistake because this is where Jenet players often have a sigh of relief in their minds. Don't forget about the hidden move. If it's a Jenet mirror match, remember her strengths. You have to always act fast. One mistake and it will be hard for you to catch up. So know ahead on what you should do and keep your focus. Whoever has the better close-range game will determine who wins. Futaba Hotaru - Computer: Unlike the other projectile characters, you just slammed one of her options: reflection. If you find an opening, take advantage of it because not many of her moves will leave her wide open. Hotaru does not have good stamina, so make your hard blows count. Futaba Hotaru - Human: Don't ever underestimate Hotaru. Try to keep up with your opponent. Hotaru is pretty darn fast. Limit your mistakes because good Hotaru players know that if you make one, they will punish you with her Sou Shou Ten Ren Ge and it will come out faster than your Many Many Torpedoes. Watch out for the Kuuchuu Furimuki and react quickly. If you have a projectile, limit your use of it despite the tactic subtraction because Hotaru players still have two options. You have the stamina. Force your opponent to attack so that you can get your moment of him or her being vulnerable and plant your hard shots or your best combos. Rock Howard - Computer: Coming soon. Correct some of the hit numbers and other issues. 2. Add in more details like the colors. 3. Fix the format of the guide overall. --- Nanatsu (Seven). The Final Chapter --- Okay. This is the final chapter. We're towards the end now. --- Credits --- - Myself (I listed ways to contact me) I took time to do a Jenet guide. - Shin Nippon Kikaku Corporation / SNK Corporation (www.snkplaymore.jp) One of the greatest video game companies ever, the people of this company are the ones who made Mark of the Wolves and Hotaru possible as well as other great memories. Oh. If you're wondering, Shin Nippon Kikaku means the new Japanese project. It's not the new Japanese corporation, despite what many people say. That would be SNK: Shin Nippon Kaisha. - Cristian Molina / Rid Hershel (http://www.geocities.com/majoria_news/) I never thought someone would actually want to host this guide also, but I was wrong. So, I have him to thank as well. - The people in my Hotaru guide. You know them by now. - The various Japanese dictionaries. I think this is obvious. - You (who will probably insert ways to be contacted). I am glad that you took the time to read my Jenet guide. Arigatou gozaimasu! Hontou ni! *I do a deep bow.* - Bonne Jenet (as this guide as well as other pages have information about her). Finally, I can't forget about Bonne Jenet. I have to thank her for being straight up sekushii and being an inspiration for me to make a character guide about her. She and other video game and anime/manga characters may not be real, but they live in my world and have my gratitude. ^_^' If I forgot anyone, don't kill me. --- Last Words --- Nearly two years and it's still blossoming. It'll become better. Just wait and see. Mata ne. "'Garou: Mark of the Wolves' Character Guide - Bonne Jenet/B. Jenet" Copyright 2003 by Don Umali - Don Umali/Bata-kun
