At long last, my new CD "Head to Head," with bassist Mike Ryle and featuring drummer Gene Lewin, is available! The CD features jazz tunes that are not too often heard, such as Chick Corea's "Tones for Joan's Bones," Carla Bley's "Sing Me Softly of the Blues," Marian McPartland's "Ambiance," and many others. I will have samples from the CD uploaded to the site soon. In the meantime, we are of course accepting orders for the CD... :)

I'm afraid I've had to remove two recently discontinued services from the site: the "Coolboard" message board and the "Buy-It Button" credit card service. The two companies are unfortunately no longer offering those services. I hope to have replacements for them in the near future. In the meantime, you can order CD's by mail from Awakening Muse at P.O. Box 409, Easton, CT 06612, and you can direct any questions to me at billbrtsk@aol.com. Thanks for your understanding!

Did I say I'd begin recording in April? Recording projects always seem to take longer than you think: I'm currently booked for studio dates in July. But I've written most of the tunes for this CD, and I'm pretty pleased with them. I'm looking forward to getting in there and recording the music...

3/27/00:

I'm preparing to record an all-guitar CD. It will be called "Falling Grace," and will feature the Steve Swallow tune of the same name. I'll begin recording in April; I'll post progress reports here.

Meanwhile, I've just completed final editing on a new project: a trio CD featuring bassist Mike Ryle and drummer Gene Lewin. Mike and I have played together in various contexts since 1982. In our regular duo sessions we explored everything from standard jazz tunes to event-based free playing. In August of 1998 we decided to go into the studio; we asked Gene to round out the group. We recorded a number of lesser-played standard tunes that had been part of our repertoire since the mid-90's.

This session had great energy, which comes through clearly in the recording. We recorded ten tunes, most of which were first or second takes, and were in and out of the studio in twenty-four hours. Not bad, especially considering that Gene had never played with us before!

This still-untitled CD should be available later this year. Look for it on this website.
