Kick off to Marin

Kick-off to Marin!

Each Spring, Project Discover hosts a Kick-off Overnight Weekend to the Marin Headlands. The overnight is a unique experience for many Project Discover students who attend San Francisco’s public schools. Through tide-pool searching, journal writing, night hikes, and camp fire performances, Project Discover students are challenged to think critically about the Bay Area’s natural environment.

The overnight in Marin is the first event before the start of the summer program, Children gather with old friends from last summer and meet their new classmates.

The 2002 overnight was a huge success! Forty-five students gathered to hike, play, and explore Marin. Children created journals and completed nature scavenger hunts. Snakes, lizards, rabbits, and dear were just some of the animal discoveries found during daytime and nighttime walks. Basketball and volleyball were played during free time, and as always, the food at the Headlands Institute was well like by all. If the overnight is any indicator of how much fun the summer program is going to be, we are going to have one of the best summers ever!

“During the program I gained many important steps in life, like independency, tolerance, respect, discipline, and last of all, I learned how dedication towards school and the future is important.“
